I think it's more of a "where am I going to put them" problem if you go from a 2000 sqrt ft "condo" to a 250 sqrt ft "condo", so to speak.

If you need versatility, a practial 2.1 solution may make sense. Again, the OS + el-cheapo sub should do the trick IMO. Buying a larger FOTM nobody-knows "audiophile" solution might end up in the Sales Adds and stay there for a while even after you moved to a new headquarters. And sold for a loss at that, if that. Sometimes one just end up giving it away.

EDIT: I try to keep my shit for the long haul. And I give advice as such. But that is not everyone's philosophy.

EDIT2: Even if I'm doing something for fun (DIY), I try to find a real use case for the shit. Otherwise I lose interest, because it makes little sense for my needs.

Those MTM Overnight Sensations look awesome too! I'd definitely consider that for more woofer real-estate.

I like the MT more. But you are likely going to get more power for little extra $ with the MTM configuration. The HiVi woofer is a steal.

EDIT: Though I wish the HiVi woofer was black instead of Trump colored.

A first gen atc scm40 fits the bill as well, if you can find it used and have space for tower speakers. I’d keep an eye out for used Neumann kh310’s as well.

Have you looked at all at the S2000 from Carmody? Most who have made them think they are a clear step up, but no one really describes stuff like people are able to here.

I did not find them forward or fatiguing. I do know some people have found Genelecs "harsh", because of that metal tweeters in the smaller models. I like them as they pack a lot of sound in a rather small package and allow you to use DSP.(some people are allergic to that) . The best part of these are their stereo-image.Besides, being coaxial you can pretty much strap them to your head and use them as headphones

I saw it. From the same OS designer. Going by the specs, I think the S2000 gets more output power at the expense of low end extension. You pay a little more for the S2000 sensitivity. The woofer is black.

The S2000 deserves an audition. The extra 4 dB and the blackness of things might be worth the extra $30 a pair (%50 increase). Or not. Depends.

No mang. I think those are fantastic. But not cheap-bastid material.

But then again, @Stuff Jones might not be a cheap-bastid.

The Neumanns Kh310 are extreme value for what they are. So are Hedd 20s

ATCs are hella overpriced though. 5000 dollar Brit fi ns10s get outta here. Pay north of 10k, and atc will still not give you even close to normal bass and impulse response lol

    Regarding cheap-bastid club...

I've heard quite a few high-end speakers. Some great. Some shit. If I compare a OS or similar cheap-bastid material great sounding speaker with a great high-end speaker, chances are the high-end speaker will have something extra to offer (and I do mean chances, because sometimes there is nothing).

The questions then is, how much is this extra performance worth? Here in the US, Guitar Center has all these entry level powered monitors, and some stores do carry Genelecs and such. One can hear them side by side if the store employees are nice. Hell, I remember I measured all the entry level monitors in a Guitar Center store with the employees all sharing their opinions and stuff with me. It was during the week and things were slow.

The deal is, if one expects this extra performance to be ground breaking, earth shatering, mind-blowing, came 3 times in a row & went back home empty balls good, be prepared to be sorely disappointed (one of the reasons I started to skip on "T.H.E. Show" stuff: disappointment).

This is why one needs to listen and see if the extra not-so-few kilobucks are worth it. It's got nothing to do with whether "you can hear it" or not. Or if you have those "golden ears" or not. It's got everything to do with whether you think the extra performance (however nano-small it may be) is worth your hard earned cash. And that is fully subjective and personal.

I know that you need to hear things to decide on a purchase, but you do have to narrow down what you want to listen to. Any recommendations on trusted reviewers (youtube or print/web)?

I know you do. That was all for posterity and randos that happen to read on this thread.

My OS recommends stands. Bailing out now.

You know if Carmody has a write-up of these? Weird that it's not on his site.

    $234 flatpack at diysoundgroup. Tempting

The drivers used for the S2000 maybe proprietary (as in, I don't see them for sale on parts-express, madisound and the likes). Unlike the OS, the S2000 might be a diyaudiogroup "DIY" exclusive.

Interesting. Well, I might have to try building a set in the early new year when things might slow down for a brief bit. Nothing wrong with my OS's, just curious (and I am also not a huge fan of the color of the OS woofer).
