Because I'm curious and have materials around that aren't being used otherwise right now, I stuck a 50VA, 15V toroidal transformer in a box. The Magni 3 uses the same 14V, 1.5A wall-wart as the Magni 2 Uber, and on the Schiit website it says that this can be used with any of the products requiring 16V, .5A. I am assuming, therefore, that a 15V, 3A transformer would also be functional for either use, which is based on the assumption that there is no parallel note for the 16V wall-wart because the Magni 3 and Magni 2 Uber need the higher current.

Also, I don't have a Magni of any kind, I'm just wondering if a bigger transformer would improve the performance of the amp. The transformer is about $20, plus the cost of however you decide to plug it in, so it's not a crazy expense if it did give a little bump, at least as a DIY thing.

If anyone wants to borrow the thing for a while to use with the Magni 3 that they actually have, I'd be happy to split shipping. PM me about it.

Another, even cheaper option would be trying one of these out: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetai...=sGAEpiMZZMvwUzoUXIIvyW8HfC4QLhUe97YsFv/NSSw=

You'd just need to make a DC cable. If Schiit uses the same DC (for AC) jack for everything, which I would expect them to do, it's a 5.5x2.5 plug.

I find the preamp gain is too high when using it with some other amp behind : power amp like my Yamaha or cheapo D-class stuff, BHSE, SRM-1, whatever.... Even if the gain is set to "low", and it's the same story with my Vali 2, I can't set the output amp to max volume, unless I want to piss off all the neighborhood / kill my hearing on the long run or have only one channel working due to low volume pot imbalance.

Anyone with the same kind of experience ? Am I too sensitive ?

Where did the Magni 3 that was shipped as part of the HP-3 loaner go?

The gain is quite high i agree, my speakers volume is at 7 (out of 10) to match my hd580 and dt150 in volume, but my ad2000 is super loud in comparison because of the high sensitivity.

Regarding upgrading it, I don't think you'll beat the pot that is there in that form factor. I have asked Jason before if you could squeeze an Alps RK27 in, and he said nope. I'd just order a replacement from digikey, and a solder sucker if you don't have one, and replace it myself.

I assume they are test points. I think @schiit board house does some automated testing for them now. Especially on low-cost products like this I guess they want to be weeding out faulty boards as early as possible.

Oops, wrong thread. Apologies. This is an image of the Modi. I was wondering if they were filter jumpers.

Hi everyone. I just noticed a little quirk about my Magni 3 and was wondering if this is something that anyone else is experiencing. Basically, when turning down the volume to zero, the left channel cuts out earlier than the right channel, but only between 7 and 7:30 o'clock. Between 7:30 and 8, there is channel imbalance. Above 8 o'clock both channels can be heard and there is no imbalance.
Now, I know that it is perfectly normal to have channel imbalance at very low volumes, but I am just wondering if anyone has experienced one of the channels going down to zero volume while the other one is still audible at extremely low volumes. It is really an academic question, but I am just curious.

Yeah, mine will play right channel only at the first hair of a turn on the knob. Same scenario as you, exactly as you described. It's still considered part of channel imbalance.

Mine, purchased in August, has developed the scratchy pot syndrome. I'm gonna send it in for repair under warranty. Otherwise its a great amp and I really enjoy it. Of course I like my THX 789 a wee bit more.....

Have you tried - while powered on and being fed - unplugging the headphones and cycling it from max to min many times? This has worked for me in the past.

I haven't on this, but I have done that before on other units over the years with generally poor results. By coincidence the day after I noticed the noise my THX 789 was delivered and it is really a great amp....the Magni will be repaired then go on the auction block.

Anyone here by chance knows specifics of the pre-outs? Are they directly from the pot or do they have a voltage buffer?
Looking to feed a bipolar input power amp, not sure if i should include a buffer or not.
    Thanks

It should just be like their other amps. It's basically the headphone output with a 75 ohm resistor to increase the output impedance.

Volume can be controlled via pot. I don't really recommend the Magni 3 as a preamp though; in my experience it's kind of eh.

As i turn up the knob, i notice very subtle white noise from the speakers. That would be the noise floor of the actual amplifier right?
