That Steely Dan greatest hits is awesome, I think they remastered all those songs for that album, so they sound better than the original releases, to my ear.

OK, so I'm out of work right now, so what better way to spend my time and rapidly dwindling cash than on this extravagance!! Just came in the mail today. I know what I'm doing for the next few days! IMG_2978.jpg IMG_2979.jpg Let's see if this SRX vinyl is for real...

All this talk of Steely Dan made be bust out this gem...

1972 pressing of Can't Buy a Thrill, picked up last year in my local record shop for about $10. It in great shape and sounds excellent. Surface noise is basically non-existent after a thorough cleaning.

Just finished listening to two SRX albums. Unfortunately the Horace Silver album appears to be defective, it has a couple of dozen instances of distortion that I don't think are in the master. It's a "tearing" sound, mostly on piano attacks, but I think is in the pressing. Not sure how it works, but I'll have to return it to Music Matters, hopefully they can explain it. It also seems to have a slight bit of WOW and I'm wondering if the pressing is just slightly off center or if it was mastered that way. The Hank Mobley record is spectacular.
Now to this new SRX vinyl. Wow, it is incredibly quiet, in fact, it's disconcerting. It's more like listening to a CD than a record and it seems wrong somehow. Once I got passed that, I really like it. It's a new height in quality and it also seems to me to be higher resolution as well. It certainly makes the imperfections much more noticeable. That can be a distraction actually, but I think ultimately it's a good thing. I'm thrilled with it so far. Would love to hear other views of those of you who have the pleasure of hearing this new vinyl.

Couldnt decide if I wanted to listen to an Iced Earth or Blind Guardian album. Seemed like a great solution.

Was just about to pick up a few of the SRX pressings. What did they say about the issues you had with the Silver LP?

Good to know. And weird. I've got an early BN pressing of SFMF that I'm now keen to get back to.

Yeah for sure. That, or the earlier MM 45 doesn't have that issue as far as I can tell.

Yeah, that's what I'm confused about. Why wouldn't it be audible in the previous MM edition?

This is all according to Ron. But apparently the SRX vinyl is more revealing/transparent than what they used before... Can't confirm or deny that haha. Interestingly, SRX is so transparent that if you hold it up to a light you can see through it. The mofi one step boxes seem to be using a similar vinyl formula (Evans portrait is similarly transparent, physically and uh sonically)

Funny, when I first saw that, I was thinking of the Uriah Heep album I had back in high school. Didn't think the cover was the same...and I was RIGHT!!!
