    Well excitement is short-lived.
I wanted to test to see how accurate it is by synchronizing the second hand with a computer timer. Within 30 minutes, it's slower by 4 seconds and a couple hours later now it's slower by 15 seconds.

Any thoughts? thinking of returning it. Not happy

Many mechanical automatic watches even expensive ones are off many seconds per day. You do not buy a mechanical for accuracy, you buy it for looks, material quality and engineering.

Your watch may be adjusted to be more accurate, just depends if you can live with the fact that it will be off every day, week, and month.

For this caliber of watch you should expect within 10 sec/day. It should come calibrated from the manufacturer, this is way out of spec, usually magnetism is the cause of such excessive drift.

Yes, except that magnetism will usually cause a watch to be fast. De-mag-ing a watch is easy. I have something for that in my office. The dealer can do that in 2 minutes. Watches are often not sold as soon as they are made, many wait around a while and lubricants age.

This is commonly said. While it's true that a quartz watch will be more accurate, a well adjusted, serviced, and maintained mechanical watch can definitely be accurate to under 10 seconds a day for years. Every Rolex made now is accurate to -2/+2 seconds per day, for example. A JLC should be similar.

Let us know how the dealer handles it!

Good point. Either way they should sort it out.

Give it some time, and see how it fairs over a few days, although It probably won't improve.

I have a TAG Heuer and if a leave it on my desk then it's within 2 seconds a day. If I wear it then it goes into warp drive, often gaining 30 seconds to a minute per day.

Personally I hate the damn thing as I can't rely on on it, and I soon went back to my old quartz for daily driving. however as it was a gift from my GF I still have to wear it on occasion.

Some hard-earned advice - don't forget to take your watch off before going through a millimeter wave scanner at the airport. I did this when they were pretty new, and security teams weren't yet forcing everyone to remove all metal objects. My Heuer 4000 automatic now runs 20+ minutes fast per day, and that's after a local & very well-regarded watch repairman put it through his commercial demagnetizer a couple of times. Sucks and pretty much worthless now unless I spring (get it?) for a new movement.

Get yourself you have a donut-style demagnetizer (this is the only kind to use), and put it through face up then face down, crown up, crown down, and the diagonals. You pull it through quickly and in a smooth motion. Make sure your wallet out of your pocket when you do this.

You have your watch back, after a few tries.

Got the Pulsar. Not quite working yet, hopefully I can make it work.
A lot smaller than my current watch.

Official certification allows for a bit more variance than that, but it is a pretty rigorous test regime wrt position, temperature, etc.

And I broke it more. Can't get anything to display on screen now... I'll see if I can get it repaired by someone who knows what they are doing.

After months of not using it I wore my Seiko 5 again. It is SNK809 field watch version. Once it runs it is such a happy little watch (tends to run ahead). If only it had manual wind.

I might spring for a Hamilton Khaki Field 38mm later this year. A small field watch that fits under the cuff is something I am considering. What is your experience with Hamilton watches?

What I really want to know is this: can you hand-wind the automatic versions?

I do not care about the wrist band. I prefer nato-straps for daily wear.

Belated Christmas present for me. I bought the GF a Mondaine for Christmas, have always liked the Swiss Railway Station clock design as a wristwatch. In the process of looking for a nice small one for her, I learned about the Stop2Go movement available in some of the large Mondaines. Replicates the railway station clock movement - second hand takes 58 seconds to travel from 12:00 to 12:00, then it pauses there for 2 seconds while the minute hand advances one minute (does not sweep). Way cool.

Massdrop did another drop of the Mondaine Gottardo right after Christmas, This is special edition of the Stop2Go commemorating the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel in 2016. They cut rings out of the driver's door of an AE6/6 railway engine and inserted them as bezels. Between the movement and the history, they snagged me. Bastards

I think the Khaki Field has a Calibre H-10, which is basically an upgraded ETA 2824-2, so it should handwind. However, the handwinding mechanism of the 2824 is known to be a little fragile, so I wouldn't do it too often.
