That's true. Nobody tells you which woman you must married.

Maybe somebody here have try some dacs with harbeth or bbc speakers.

With benchmark and rme i am scaring about the mids and nothing else.i listen benchmark with atc speaker and amp.....but i can't say anything...because all the system was not for my taste.

Many people says that schiit and nos dacs like onyx and spring is more involving.with rme one guy told that i can make it sounds as i like with the dsp...and same if i choose benchmark but with dirac...

Frequency response anomalies (or just a fr response you don't enjoy) may be correctible via dsp/eq, but I wish one could create the spatial presentation of an R2R dac with a d/s DAC using same. Woulda saved me some time and more $. Good luck though. Report back please if you figure it out.

What DAC are you using now? Is it the one in the Hegel?

If so, what do you not like about it or what do you want to do with your sound (other than good female vocals)?

Do you want more treble/sparkle in the highs? Do you want stronger bass? Do you want a bigger soundstage? What did you not like about about the Benchmark + ATC combo (I’m going to guess it was bright and clinical).

If you can give some more specifics about aspects of sound you like and don’t like, or that you want or don’t want from your current setup, people here may be able to help you better.

Yeap i am using the hegel's internal dac.i like hegel's dac but is not the best thing in detail, imaging and sound stage..generally if somebody know how it works the hegel's dac then he will understand.nothing i have to complain but i want something to give more...an upgrade...the same way that sounds but with better detail.i like very much the hegel hd30 but it is out off my budget.

The benchmark and atc was as you said clinical.

I want something without loosing the mids, not to be clinical,a good machine with good power supply with good measurments.

You may not be able to get all that you want in one device. As I said before t...

Why good measurements? If it measured like crap, but sounded amazing to you, would you not buy it?

Bottom line - with modern DACs, measurements don’t tell you much of anything as far as what it sounds like or whether you will like it. They pretty much all measure as flat as a board from a frequency response perspective, and below human hearing for most of the measurable “issues” that can be found. Focus on sound signature and connectivity/features rather than measurements, in my opinion.

I had a Hegel amp as well and know what you mean. The DAC doesn’t do anything offensive, but it is boring and unengaging.

Edit: It probably measures like a dream though ;-)

Yeap hegel's dac is boring.so i think you got me.could you please give me some options?

Here's some "All Purpose Advice" @Cycleman at least space your statements properly. The spelling typos are borderline acceptable since non-native English speaker, but I'm pretty sure you use spaces in Greek too and these random periods instead of spaces is unacceptable. People could be more willing to help if they could read what you're saying.

For the DACs you have mentioned as possibilities, you are looking a some fairly expensive ones (although not as expensive as the HD30).

Are you able to buy anything used? As @Senorx12562 says, it’s pretty hard to recommend something that will directly hit the spot and no one wants you to spend that kind of money and be disappointed. Buying something used at least allows you to resell if you don’t like it, and not lose much money (or any). This way you can try some different options. This is what I did before landing on the Schiit DACs as my preference.

I personally don’t think you can go wrong with Gungnir Multibit or Yggdrasil for what you’re looking for, but you may not find them to your liking. Holo Spring is also very good. I (and others) find the ESS Sabre based DACs like the Benchmark and Mytek DACs to be overly etched, bright and clinical. The Hegel HD30 is based on the AKM4490 DAC chip, which is ok, but apparently Hegel have done some exceptional things with this chip in the HD30 to overcome some of the limitations experienced with other DACs that use the same chip.

You may want to read this post comparing the HD30 to the Yggdrasil to get a sense of it (and check out other comparisons that are linked from the beginning of the thread below):

Hey guys I got myself a used Schiit vidar and have been enjoying the upgrade from my emotiva mini x a 100 with he 6. Only issue is that half of my banana plug to xlr adapter cable doesn't fit in the speaker taps, and the other half is also very loose(they fit fine on my emotiva and I tightened the banana plugs before putting in the vidar). I'm currently using a box pressed against the connectors to keep the banana plugs in, but would rather not live with this jerry rigged set up. Is this an easy DIY fix? I'd rather not have to return it especially since everything else about it is perfectly functional.

    Basic troubleshoot question:

Did you unscrew the binding terminals before installing the banana plug?

    Do you mean these? https://m.imgur.com/a/ufjuN92
If so I just did and it helped a little bit but there is still a noticeable difference in tightness between different inputs. While doing this I also realized my banana plug to xlr cable is actually an xlr to spades to banana plug cable (not sure if this is standard I don't know much about cables) so I guess I could just remove the banana plug part and use it as spades? I still don't really understand how there's such a big difference in the size of the speaker tap holes though.

Funky cable. Probably to give you the option to run either connection.

You should be able to unscrew the terminal posts a few turns, insert the banana plugs, then retighten the posts to secure and “bind” the plug to the post. Pretty standard.

I guess I've been plugging it in wrong this whole time (Years!). I took the banana plugs off and went with the spades since that's just another adapter added to the chain. I get the feeling that the guy that sold me the cable told me about the spades and I must've just glossed over it not realizing what he was talking about. Thanks for the help.

    Thanx a lot.

I like the imaging of sound and that's the reason that i canceled schiit Yggdrasil. I read the link that you send me. it helps me a lot. Could you please tell me some dacs with 2000e-2500e with akm chip that may worth?

For sure i delete from my list benchmark and rme because you are the one more that you saying that they are clinical.

It's one of the best akm implementations out there and it will totally trash the internal DAC of you amp.

    that's for sure.

I had listen many dacs that costs 1000e.None of them can buy.

So i decided that i must go over 2000e. In this value there are must better dacs and the Yggdrasil doesn't offer much comprares to gungnir.i like akm chip. i am searching something like Yggdrasil but with a better build.
