I second this. I bought into the hype early on and called them out as crap as soon as I tried them. Maybe they work with some pairings, but they were crap with my Lyr and HE500s.

Anyone here pairing the Mjolnir 2 with he500s (besides @Darren G whose posts I have already read, thanks Darren)?

Im considering the Mjolnir 2 as an upgrade from the Lyr 1 Ive been happily using for several years. I really like the overall tonality of the Lyr 1 with Amperex PQs, but I'm kind of craving more clarity, separation and just general technicalities. HE500s are my only HPs currently, but I might want to use it with a pair of Focals down the road also.

I initially tried the Liquid Platinum and while the detail is great I find it sounds flat and dry with the HE500s compare to the Lyr. Im still letting my ears adjust but so far It doesn't give me the musical engagement I get from the Lyr with Amperex PQs.

Also considering the MCTH and Lyr 3. Any thoughts? Does the Mjolnir 2 hold up to these newer amps?

@jexby, Single ended right now, Modi Multibit. In what area(s) would you say the Mj2 is a legitimate improvement over the Lyr1/2? Is it mostly in the power/slam department? I was really hoping for an improvement in most technical areas while retaining the Lyrs tone and musicality. Wishful thinking?

you do have a balanced DAC to feed the Mjolnir2?

Mjolnir 2 with some decent NOS tubes provide ultra slam and power into the HE500 that is legendary.
separation should increase (DAC dependent also), but clarity might be roughly the same depending on the tube.

or you could hold your breath for a Mjolnir 3 in year 20XX.

Any chances to narrow it down to 202x?....

Joke's aside if you go with mj2 I suggest for starters a jj6922 gold pin's.
Ranks among the most clear I have tried with great treble extension without being bright or harsh.
Please allow at least 100 hours of break in.

Why? What is it in a vacuum tube that needs at least 100 hours?

I’ve never heard any difference over time with any tube. They’re either good, or not so good.

Something about impurities in the tube burning off, or so says the manual for my Liquid Platinum. @Hands has noticed change with production tubes and the ones that come with Zdt.Jr, IIRC.

The tube was good from the beginning and the tonality pretty much the same.
What I noticed after extensive use is that at the beginning the tube was harsh and metallic sounding at the upper registers but now is very smooth sounding with decent detail without the above mentioned negatives.

Regarding waiting for a Mj3 I'm considering the Lyr 3 and people seem to be speculating that the Mj3 will be based on the lyr3. If this is the case, Im wondering if it will have the overall sound signature and tone Iv come to love in the Lyr 1? Im hearing that the Lyr3 is cleaner, more forward and less tubbey/lush than Lyr1. Like I said Im not loving the LP because it seems kind of dry and boring compared to the Lyr with my HE500s. I can listen to the Lyr 1 for hours on end and it always sounds good and never gets fatiguing and my understanding is the Mj2 has similar tone to the Lyr (but better in some other areas).

@jexby, Im going to continue to give the LP a chance since I already have it, but I think you may be right, maybe I just needed somebody to put my upgradeitus in check. If/when the Mj3 comes out maybe ill be able to snag a Mj2 at a good price. Thanks :)

    Hello Guys,
I am a complete newbie. My only experience with DAC/AMP's came from a Audioengine D1 combo. I recently bought a nice pair of headphones that the D1 would not power and I find myself listing to music more and more and looking for more depth of sound. I purchased the Gungnir multibit/Mjolnir 2 systems and they should arrive tomorrow. I am very excited. My question though is where can I find a set of socket savers for the MJ? I see a few pairs on tubemonger but I am not sure they are compatible. I apologize ahead of time for my ignorance.

The MJ2 plus Yggdrasil A2 has been such a musical experience I dont post here much. It sounds like music, and why the company hasn't wasted $ on buying junk.

I just listen to music now.

Anything else to add would be .5 percent, the Yggdrasil A2 Analog 2, and Mojo with tubes of choice, sounds like music to me. No wonder Schitt hasn't released anything new this year, what else can they add? This is great end gear. It sounds like music to me.

So I just got a used Mjolnir 2 delivered, set it up with the stock tubes, plugged in the power cable, flipped the kinda loose switch to the on position, and saw what looked like a small flame through the top grill and the amp won't turn on. I also got a mild jolt when touching the top of the amp before unplugging the power cable.

Anyone ever experience this or something like it? Did this amp just get fried?

EDIT: I let it sit for a few minutes, plugged the power cable back in, and flipped the switch. Nothing happened. The front LED is off, the tubes aren't lighting up, and there's a faint smell of burning coming from it. Holy shit, this f'ing sucks.

Is the tube well inserted in the socket? Worth trying another pair if you have it handy?
However I agree with @ColtMrFire , you should email schiit. They respond within a day. However since you got a used one it may not be covered under warranty. Paypal refund from the seller is an option since it is kind of DoA.

Yeah, I tried two other pairs and nothing but the smell of burning. The tubes were as well inserted as can be. I'm going to contact Schiit. Hopefully I can send it in and pay for repairs and shipping. Also contacted the seller at Head-Fi but haven't heard back yet. Sigh, this really f'ing sucks.

Too bad if you have to pay for repairs as you just got it. May be things will work out with seller and you both can come to some agreement.

Maybe there was insurance on the package assuming it was damaged during the shipping.

I sold the amp to @klyrish, and just saw his message on HF. I had tested the amp before I sent it and it was ok, but I do know things can happen during shipping. I'll work with him to get to get it sorted, I'm not going to leave him hanging with a broken amp.

    — Update
I’ll be taking the amp back, covering shipping and fully refunding payment. Then it’s off to Schiit for diagnostic and repair. Hoping it’s inexpensive!!
Frustrating for all, but …Sc@#tt happens.
