Am I the only one who chuckles every time the Patriots think of themselves as the underdog?

They can lie to themselves all they want. They can certainly afford it.

Isn’t lying to yourself the same thing as cheating? Who needs to cheat when you have refs like the NFL? 50 different camera angles and they can’t see a blatant pass interference? (Saints game).

Just FYI, I had no dog in any of the games. And I mean all season. 9ers fan. :drunk:

I can't argue with the ref situation. Or when a guy puts his hand in front of Tom Brady's face, but doesn't actually touch him, and is called for roughing the passer...

Yeah, the NY ref team needs to be able to overturn on-field calls when they are blatantly wrong. I'd also argue, that coaches should be able to challenge penalties.

How's Lynch doing for you guys? He was a great Bronco. =) Also, what's your take on Sangrallio (spelling)? It's funny listening to local media try to say that guy's name. They all trip up on it.

What happened to the Saints is a travesty

Oh they saw it....There were 2 refs within feet of the play.

The reason they give about not being to challenge PI is because it's generally a judgment call. Rarely is a PI that blatant and when it is it gets called....until Sunday....

But yes I agree why can the guys in New York just call stop the game and say hey that's a penalty you need to throw a flag. Seems simple to me.

Super Bowl winners have always been pre-ordained. NFL is more entertainment than sport these days. This was always El Lay's year, for purposes of common NFL good. Key injuries impacted the offense, so other people needed to get involved, phone calls made down the field, specific instructions made to refs and players.

I do wonder if the older smash-mouth football resulted in less horrific tibia/fibula breaks. Probably caused more brain damage though.

If that's true don't you think they would would it be be LA VS KC then. The future of the NFL MCvay and Goff vs Mahones, the golden boy and Reid, the one that finally may get over the cant win the big one hump? That's the matchup I think they wanted.

Though Good, in the case the Rams, vs Evil, Brady and the Pats, is a story as old as storytelling itself. Always good draw..the problem though in this case Evil has a good chance of winning.

Mahones needs to wait per NFL boardroom / owners meetings politics. Also, KC has had no defense this year. It shouldn't even have been that close. But what you said: villains make better entertainment.

Of course, evil must have a good chance of winning. Stats favor Patriots, but Pats played in a division with 3 shit teams (really no better than 49ers) x2 and a quite a few shit teams out of their division.

I made a similar argument with someone a week ago. It went something like this: Brady is in a division with the Dolphins, Bills, and Jets. All of them have been horrible for the last 15 years. The Pats play each twice a year. That's practically 7 guaranteed wins. If the Patriots were in the AFC West, or some of the NFC divisions, his stats would look much much different and I doubt he would have been in even half of the super bowls that he has played in.

As a Pats fan (born in Boston) I love reading and hearing all the criticisms. Sure, I'd love to see other teams compete in the SB, but the Pats keep winning the key games they need to win usually with mediocre rosters and legendary coaching. (You say weak division, I say maintaining a dominant football org.) People make fun of Belichick/Hoodie/Darth Vader, but there's no denying he's one of the greatest NFL coaches and a highly effective de-facto general manager in this parity/salary-cap era. (Can only dream we someday get someone half as competent to run the Redskins. Hope the Ravens & Haurbaugh have success with Lamar Jackson.)

It's fun to watch Mahomes sling the ball around and was hoping Andy Reid would finally get a SB win with the Chiefs. I'm definitely no Philly fan but strangely find myself rooting for Nick Foles.

Having said all that, every year I get less excited to watch the games, thinking there are better ways to waste my Sundays...

Your argument does not hold water. The Pats were so good, it forced the other division teams to suck against everyone else too? Come on man. ;)

Allow me to clarify: despite the argument of perennial suckiness of that division, which isn't false, my point is that the Patriots have maintained success against almost all other NFL teams during the Brady/Belichick era. Denver would be the exception ;)

Sure the division is weak, but once the playoffs come around they aren't playing scrubs. They get it done when it counts...weak division or not.

The Dolphins, Bill, and Jets are more or less dysfunctional organizations. They only reason these three horrible teams even have wins is because they play each other, and on occasion other dysfunctional organizations such as the Browns, Bengals, and Jags with the home team usually being the victor.

AFC teams tend to be smaller market. Not like the NFC East when I was growing up in the 80s (or even now) when the Eagles, Redskins, and Giants were always beating the living crap out of each other. Only to battle either the Bears (weak division) or 49ers (even weaker division back then - now it's Seattle passing the torch to El Lay in a decently strong one). Heck, throw in the Vikings too back in the day.

The Pats have been the only AFC team which is on the same level of the NFC teams. If they were truly dominant, they wouldn't have needed OT over ATL, a brain-fart from SEA or lost to NY x2, and PHI. If Pats were in the NFC, their number of SB appearances would be cut by 70%. Heck, same deal but less extent if SEA stayed in the AFC.

Pats are playing scrubs. KC? Seriously? Haven't they been ranked last in defense six years in a row now with the exception of one year where game-manager Alex Smith got flustered?

I agree about the NFC overall being more competitive than the AFC.

Was fun rooting for the Skins in the championship 80's...my daughter is a Skins fan and is jealous when I tell her what it was like at her age when they were actually winning.

Anyway, it's a different game now, with high-flying offense to offset weak defense and not being able to touch the QB.
