Those pieces drying look like an art installation. Keep up the good work!

Would like to hear a pair one day. Looking good so far.

Any ideas regarding the amps and crossover yet?

Looking good. I would like to see some commentary about the build. Maybe post each individual pic and write a comment about it.

I'll do that once it's done. Thx for the interest.

Thx! They do, don't they? Like some monoliths. Something like that shouldn't exist yet it does kimd of vibe to me.

I'd like to do it with hypex class d amps but they're quite expensive... I've ended up getting chinese knock offs of douglas selfs blameless amps. Ljm is the name I think. 300w x4 for woofers, 100w x 6 for the rest, and 2x 50 for the sealed subs (contrary to common belief, they really sometimes don't need all that much power). I've programmed a small attiny microcontroller to automatically switch the amps on/off when there is a signal present or not, to conserve power. Have yet to build a chassis for amps.

How did you come to that subwoofer power requirement? As for open baffle metal woofers - are these amps comfortable with low ohm loads?

Yes, can drive 2 ohm loads I think. 3 for sure.
Well, in lx521 woofers are really eq'ed high. 10 db high and higher even. People say 50w is plenty enough, but I'd rarher not get clipping.
As for the requirement, I've used linkwitz's calculations to determine that the absolute maximum power that makes sense for these woofers is about 250-300 W. Coincidently (or not, he co-designed them specifically for lx521) their maximum power handling is rated 300w too. Now I know it'll dissipate more power in the amp, but I'll offset it by using SMPS and microcontroller to some degree, hopefully.

I'd get some silly high powered class-D for both the sealed subs and the open-baffled SEAS woofers. It doesn't have to be high quality, just 400 - 500W with rugged PSU and protection circuits. See what Thomann has on offer.

A friend of mine has lx521's built and he struggled with woofer amps, the Bryston he used would go into protection rather often and he ended up using Hypex UCD400 modules.

Sealed subs, monopoles, in room corners need much much less than open baffle bass speakers. In fact, for daytons classic ones I'm using, around 50w is the theoretical maximum before hitting excursion limits (at 15-30 hz range where I'll be using them). Now, possibly, somewhere down the line I'll upgrade the woofer (actually all) amps to stronger class D amps, but, as I said, officially, maximum SL recommended was around 180 watts. Even seen people do it as low as 50 watts. Which is just weird if you ask me... anyway 250-300 watts into these and you are hitting excursion limits. Which I don't want to hit anyway.

What kind of SPL are you looking at the 30Hz excursion limit?

It was a while ago that I made the calculations, when I get home I'll dig it up and post it
