Where are the Schiit Sol First Article Production photos. Surely someone from sbaf went to the Schitter tonight for the gear meet.

A lot more refined than from before. Some minor usability tweaks before production. I figure middle of this year at latest.

Note anti-skate not used. A matter of preference.

    Adjustable VTA on the fly.

Adjustable VTA on the fly and a 12” arm under $1k is massive.

Is that thing called a unipivot? I only met one once. feels kind-of weird when lifting the cartridge... and kind-of amazing that it works. I think that the one I met cost more than this entire setup.

IMO, the Sol will be a tinkerer's playhouse. We audiophiles tend to get obsessed about so many little things such as USB solutions, chaining x3 Mutecs and x2 Wyrds, exotic cables, speaker and power cable lifters, stepper pots, AVC/TVC. If there is something that can be purchased for $1000+ to make the sound different by 0.23%, then we will do it.

The Sol is perfect for this, with that most tweaks will be free or less than a $100. This now allows people who are not super rich or would rather not spend that kind of money to tweak to one's desire.

Here are a couple of ideas:
    1. Lining the arm lifter with felt
    2. Taking measurements with a cart or two to calculate the mass of the arm
    3. Encasing the motor pod in an outer shell filled with concrete
    4. Using multiple motor pods for a more direct drive approach
    5. Developing a speed controller for the motor(s)
    6. The bearing can support more weight: Developing a heavier platter
    7. Playing with VTA
    8. Although it is not shown, the spindle is removable. Developing a spindle with threads for a screw cap center weight / clamp to flatten records
    9. Using or not using anti-skate
    10. Manufacturing a heavyweight platter
    11. Creating a separate arm pod for multiple arms
    12. Encasing the entire frame in a heavyweight plinth
    13. Constructing a replacement frame from exotic wood, ivory, or rhinoceros horn.
    14. Varying belt tension via placement of motor
    The possibilities are endless.

This is crazy, I've have a SL1200 MK5 that was manufactured in 2009 I paid $400 for with 200 hours on it. Tons of vinyl minty pressings going back to the 60s and I basically play digital files into a headphone rig 85% of the time now. Lately been contemplating selling it all including about half my vinyl. This makes me reconsider.. I think.

Hoping it has a cue lever. Unless I’m missing it in the pictures (blaming the small screen on my phone and not wearing my glasses). My hands are steady enough to drop a needle any more.
Speed switch would be awesome too. An optional speed box would be awesome.
Planning on buying this when it comes out. Well if I can talk my wife into letting me get a other turntable.

I had a Formula 4 tonearm when they were first introduced many years ago. Single pivot point.
Many a record were enjoyed with that arm and some Austrian cartridge the model of which I can't remember at the moment.

I hope it has a lever, I guess i'm weird but I always use it and play a side all the way through. I'm usually pretty stoned though, might not be the normal usage scenario. Not sure from pics but is the headshell swappable and easy like the SL1200 ? I used to swap between 440MLA/b a 2m blue and a AT150sa pretty often.

Yup, there is a cue lever. Drops the arm slowly, or at least slowly enough for me. I believe a final tweak is in the works to drop the arm even slower.

It's the cylinder thing with the metal stick pointing straight down.

    No swappable headshell.

I like the swappable arm feature better anyway. It looks like it would take about 12 seconds to do on this table.

Exactly. The arms will probably be like $200 instead of $2000-$3000 like VPI's latest 3D printed garbage. The arms look primitive, but I sense they are really good. I've asked Schiit to please provide these arms and base separately.

Note the superior adjustments for azimuth, low slung counterweight at the back, and on the fly VTA (without it being a $1000 add-on option for the base).

Anyone who has had to dial in a VPI arm knows what a clusterfuck it is, made all the worse by lack of documentation.

Thanks for the photos @purr1n. Cool to look at but reminded me how much I hated fiddling with vinyl, the record cleaning and maintenance, aligning expensive cartridges wearing out etc. The Yggdrasil SQ is close enough to vinyl for me and I look forward to Schiit's CD transport. I do respect anyone who loves vinyl and maintains a large record collection that is real dedication to our musical heritage.

My brief stint with vinyl made me extremely cautious of starting up again. Like @allegro I am not looking forward to the maintenance and my Gungnir Multibit A1 is hard to find fault with.

But I also feel like if I heard a proper vinyl setup (I had an AT LP120) I'd get super tempted. I could definitely hear the potential with my old table, which is probably hot garbage compared to a decent setup.

I admit it would be very tempting if the price were low enough, but you then have to consider a phono stage and decent cartridge. I have heard $699 mentioned, add $250 for a MM cartridge and Schiit Mani and if the resulting sound quality for under $1000 bests 24/96 I would consider one. I have my doubts about a low cost MM cartridge though. What cartridges do Schiit say match well with that unipivot arm? It looks like it has a discontinued Nagaoka MP-11 mounted. How was the sound?
