Oh lol, I came across this a while back. IIRC, it was for diplomatic gifts, which makes $130 per even less encouraging. These are supposed to be sterling silver engraved with Pruitt's signature yeah? Unlike a MB Patron pen, I rather doubt these'd appreciate in value much.

Been waiting 14 months now but my Newton Orville is almost here. The body is finished and just waiting on rhodium plating for the nib.

Anyone here have experience mending cracked nibs? I have a couple nice pens (sigh) that've encountered... problems. I've been hearing lots of good things about GoldNibs in Spain. Bit more affordable than CFP, and they do plating as well— my nib is rhodium masked :/

Cracked...Ouch! Haven't had that happen to me yet.

You'll be sending it international either way so North America vs Europe may not matter much. Wait time may be a factor too. Not sure who would be quicker...

1x Nakaya nib (minor) 1x Omas nib (pretty bad). I can be pretty clumsy sometimes, haha. Fortunately enough I've got a spare loose Omas nib, and I can just swap a Platinum one into the Nakaya, but yeah, I need to exercise caution, haha. IIRC John Mottishaw (CFP) has a massive backlog due to popularity, so I'm inclined to go with GoldNibs. Thing is, unlike PH>USA I don't know of any forwarding services that go straight to the EU, so I either go with FedEx, which is pricey, or use the regular post and risk the package getting "lost" in the mail.

Is that the same company as Fountain Pen Nibs who offer a retipping service https://www.fpnibs.com/content/7-rettiping. I've bought some aftermarket custom TWSBI nibs from them, but I don't know what their repair service is like.

I recently got my Visconti Homosapiens Dark ages reground to a cursive italic by Mike Masuyama. http://mikeitwork.com/NibRepair.html

He did a very good job, but he normally has a 17 week backlog and is based in the US.

I have one of these on order. The maker uses a 3D print technique...

    Thread necro:

A local dude is in the middle of launching what I think is going to be the first local large-scale fountain pen operation and the samples that've been cropping up are hella cool. The aesthetic is to taste, especially the weird joins in material, but having played with a few prototypes the grips are remarkably comfortable.

Gah, this is not something I want to be drooling over while I'm working on a headphone rig :p

Lies, good quality fountain pens are authentic and show that you retain a connection to the tangible. Or something.

Edit: ..and I totally didn't forward that link to a friend of mine who loves fountain pains. She loves a good fountain pen even more than I do. Muahaha.

Bwahahaha, that is true though :p

I've pared down my pen collection over the last few years and just have the... seven or so I'd be loathe to lose now, plus a couple beaters, so I'm firmly in the "FPs 4 lyf" club. That said, writing with a properly tuned nib (irrespective of price) is f'ing glorious, and having a piece of art in your pocket is always a pleasure!

Until you run into someone with sticky fingers or the precious art piece slips out of your pocket when you're reaching for your phone...

I like the looks of that pen. Very unique. I am afraid of the possible price though...

I did ask his business partner for an estimate but she said they were still getting their feet under them. Small operation, just the one dude turning pens in low volumes. Honestly the prototypes felt like amazing daily pens so I will very likely get one for myself if it isn't crazy pricey. The people behind the project are pretty sensible though, doubt the damage will be too bad.

I think the world of fountain pens has a different version of sensible than most.
My most expensive (of my 2 pens) is $30.
Before I drop $100 on a pen, I think: I could buy two bottles of suntori toki whisky and still have money left over, or a pen...

I'm someone who uses a keyboard 99.9% of the time, so use of a fountain pen is capricious and deliberate. It's valves and dynamic drivers just for the joy of it. It needs to be enjoyable, as it sure as hell isn't pragmatic :D

This is... true. On the upside, you're less likely to do stupid shit with a pen than a bottle of great Japanese whiskey!

... On second thought, go with the whiskey :p

Graaaagh! I've been seeing this around for a while now and really want it, but money's a bit tight between school and stuff so I can't justify it XD

If I ever do end up with the Pikapen I'll share pics and a scathing review of the Lamy ergonomics, haha. A fan of the Safari, I am not.

    EDIT:
While I'm here I'm gonna edit this post to rant about the current lineup of Sailor inks. YES the new bottles are prettier, but Christ on a unicorn they're charging nearly what they did for the old 50mL bottles with the dinky 20mL ones!

Also I just noticed that I ran out of Sou-ten without a backup bottle because it turns out I'd given it to someone else as a gift. Politely: f**k YOU PAST KEVIN.

    /endrant.

    ... Geh.

I thought I was off the horse, happy with my sturdy metal pens, then I saw this thread, watched some YouTube, and now I have a Pineider Arco and a Nakaya Briarwood coming.

Also picked up way too many colorverse inks, because I'm a huge space nerd ...

Congrats on the Nakaya! What nib did you end up getting? I dropped extra for a rhodium mask and love the patina it's developing. Dunno why but something about the gold alloy they use in their nibs makes them pick up patinas much faster than even Platinum ones, which is odd because these are basically rebranded Platinum nibs.

    P.S.
Never heard of the Pineider Arco before now. Share photos please! Holy crabcakes I kinda want one now. Not as much as an Omas Arco, mind, but still.
