I think I may be in this camp as well. The thing is that Schiit headamps sound like how I want my speaker setup to sound like (with better soundstage obviously). The Hegel H360 actually sounds alot like the Lyr 3 with a huge soundstage to me. But through headphones its just too much, I want a smoother almost rolled off top end. The treble of the Lyr 3 is more tolerable to my ears than the Jotunheim but I don't see myself keeping either of them long term. I don't hate either of them, I rather enjoy both, they just don't disappear for me. The treble always reminds me that they are in the chain.

Maybe you guys can diagnose me with some sort of particular Schiit disorder. I absolutely love the Fulla 2 and Yggdrasil but I have not found another Schiit product I love nearly as much. Although I am sure I would love the Gungnir Multibit.

You just need to get a bit older and your inner ear will do the rolling-off for you ;) I own both H360 and Lyr 3 and I kind of get what you are saying, but maybe because of my age-related upper frequency loss I don't find the Lyr 3 that aggressive in the highs (mine has currently a Reliatron D-getter tube). The Jot was another story, I liked it but it did get tiring after a few hours. All of this with MrSpeakers Ether C Flows, currently with the 1.1 upgrade. I also own an Apex Peak "vintage" amp which sounds to me slightly more rolled off.

Is this a new Schiit amp or something else?

    Very enlightening comparison thank you.
It seems that mj2 + Lyr 3 hybrid is going to be the best sounding amp!!!

    Thanks.
So i guess except Rag 2 we should be waiting/hopping for a stepped down version
of Nexus topology into a headphone only amp.

Doesn't exist, but rest assured I've asked Jason for such a thing. Big tube amps are just that. Big tube amps. Would be nice to have something compact and solid-state. A Rag 2 in Jotunheim form factor. I don't know if they are actively working on it. Heck, I don't even know when the Rag 2 will be out. We should definitely get loaner for the Rag 2 when it does come out. Might be a really good AIO. They read SBAF and make their shit better because of it.

For clarification I keep saying "treble" but that's not it. There is a peak somewhere in the upper mid range that my ears cant deal with. I notice it the most on the leading edges of a lot of female vocals. It cant be just treble because sharp guitar licks dont have me reaching for the volume knob. I dont associate this peakiness with sibilance though, it's just overly sharp and it sticks out from the rest of the frequency range. My only other issue with these two amps is that they can sound slightly compressed dynamically, again this is less the case with the Lyr which I think is superior to the Jot by almost every measure.

Given they are demoing Ragnarok 2 at the Schiitr and AXPONA, one could argue you haven’t said enough!

I have been listening a couple of days with an Audeze Deckard (amp only) loaner.
All the other negatives of this amp aside , now i realise how fu....d is the treble timbre
of mjolnir 2 at least with HD800s.
Very bad pairing , should be removed from the list!

Aegir with HE6SE if you want that rounder more liquid sound, but also highly-resolving and not too soft. Heck, put a Saga in front of it. I'm not kidding. Raggy if you want more slam and are willing to trade some nuanced presentation.

Consider Dartzeel NHB-108 or Krell Duo 175. (again, keeping in mind the kind of sound that you are describing).

Or Mjolnir 2 - ton of slam and quite resolving too. Warm tone. I didn't feel Lyr 3 or Jot quite had the guys to drive HE-5 much less HE-6. Mjolnir 2 is kind of the forgotten child of the Schiit line, but it's a good ortho and dynamic headphone amp.

Yes. It's actually a plus since so many 6DJ8 / 6922 available. You can put WE398A / 2C51 on an adapter too.

As a previous owner I have to add that despite the overall warm tone of mj2 it might not be a perfect match because of its etched upper treble.
There is some kind of forwardness - ringing no matter the tubes used.

Any chance of a 2020 update to this thread (or start a fresh one for 2020)? Most of the stuff in the OP has been replaced at this point, plus other newer models (or like with Jot as I understand it, has been revised to be less bright/incisive?). Looking for my next step up from Vali 2, which I find too soft, boring and veiled with HD650 stock (which makes sense now that Ive read the OP).

Thinking of seeking a recent used Jot at this point (and grabbing a balanced cable).

Bumping this thread again for 2021.

We have even more Schiit amp revisions since August, so wondering if a 2021 updated compendium would be possible?

Would love to see a spider chart that includes the latest Jot 2 and Vali 2+, Lyr 3, Magni 3+ etc. I realize it’s likely not a small amount of work to do this though, so not expecting an instant turnaround or anything.

Maybe just those four... That is doable.
