Was going to wait to see Endgame until after I'd finished a project, but broke down and went to a 1AM showing last night.

    Really didn't care for it.

Based on your thoughts on TLJ, I can fully see why you didn't take to it. I probably feel similar, just to a smaller enough degree that the film was still enjoyable enough for me.

I thought it was pretty good. Watched with my family. My niece and nephew really enjoyed it.

I watched Terminator Salvation last night on Netflix all the way through (a rarity in my life). I was vaguely aware of this movie even existing, and boy is it OMG bad. The only positive I would say of it was the Phillip K Dick "second variety" overtones. The writing, filming, special effects - all OMG bad.

One would think Hollywood would have been more careful with a franchise like this...

You’re giving Hollywood too much credit, movie companies were bleeding money at the time and quick cash-ins of once popular franchises were de rigueur.

Unpopular opinion but I liked Terminator Genisys (the one with Emilia Clarke from GoT), not for the main plot, but for the story around “Pops” and Sarah, exploring the aging of the terminator and the relationship the terminator as guardian might develop over time with the girl that it was sent to protect.

Never bothered with Terminator Genysysss. Looked awful and I was already burned by Salvation. I should've learned my lesson with T3 but I'm stupid.

    Avengers Endgame

    Story: B-/C+
Too long, too confusing Doctor Who shit, too all over the place, less emotionally gripping than the Marvel movie that started it all: Ironman.

    Sound Mixing: A+
Finally, a mix that does justice to Dolby Atmos. Great balance of sounds from different sources with soft and loud, not just loud loud loud loud (cough cough Justice League). Just a fantastic job. Expect an Oscar.

    VFX: A-
With this kind of movie, not supposed to look real, but stylized. Well done with one exception: Thanos doesn't look quite right. And what's up with the shrimp chin?

Saw this last night. It's really good if you like noir+Wong Kar Wai + Tarkovsky. The story behind it's New Year's release is hilarious. It was marketed as a romantic drama for couples to see on New Year's Eve in China, but it's actually an art house film. So the mislead viewers walked out and review bombed it, and nearly all of its revenue came from it's opening.

Yeah like the trailer says the hour long 3D tracking shot is super impressive, probably even more than the longer tracking shot in Russian Ark since the this was obviously harder to choreograph.

When PROMETHEUS opened I ran to see it, anticipating the "next big thing" in SciFi--but was rather disappointed by this relatively opaque, lifeless film. But it had some real moments...

Just rewatched the wonderful Noomi Rapace in her unforgettable "I'm doing a cesarian on myself to remove my squirming alien fetus" scene. It's a hoot, right down the squirming alien being euthanized by poison fog while Noomi (apparently the strongest woman on earth) somehow standing up & running away.

It'll be awhile before I eat calamari again...

I did not see the movie, but I just viewed the official trailer online. It may have been my least favorite trailer viewing experience of all time.

I purposefully didn't see ALIEN COVENANT. For one thing, I was hearing quite bad "buzz" about it; for another, I was fatigued by too many films in that series (1st & 2nd of which were superb & influential beyond words).

Speaking of aliens, another big shout-out for the truly different & strange UNDER THE SKIN, starring Scarlett Johanssen. It's on Netflix now and I'll soon re-watch it. The film lodged in my psyche & never quite left. I found it be oddly beautiful but also psychologically menacing (this is praise). The final scene scorched my eyes...

PS: the soundtrack of UTS was just as weird and wonderful as the film itself

Thanks for the tip - just cued up the Under The Skin soundtrack now on Tidal/Qobuz. I have been wanting to watch the film for a while but my domestic situation makes watching anything more the PG difficult.

Under the Skin is fantastic, seen multiple times. I love how ScarJo goes from wearing comic book tights to doing weird avante garde stuff like Skin.

That beach scene is one of the most chilling things I've ever seen.

So true. This scene & others quietly, relentlessly accomplish a thing few other films even attempt: they depict how utterly inhuman an alien is. This alien looks like a woman, and near the end of the film, has moments remotely analogous to human experience. Still, this character's "otherness" and complete lack of recognizable humanity is in every shot. It's implacable and terrifying.
