Oh man... so young.

 

Only 52. I traded a few times with him including an HE-500. In one PM exchange he offered to send me some andouille, which I really appreciated since I love cajun/creole cuisine. I wish his family well.

Really tragic news. I'm one of the many people here that got a great deal on amazing used gear (HD650) thanks to Ray. Prayers for his friends and family!

My prayers are with his family. I traded with him a number of times. Really nice guy to talk to and he was always quick with PMs. I started worrying because I was chatting with him over at HF and hadn't heard back for a while. Rest in peace, @Ray. Too young.

 

RIP Ray. I traded with him last year and he mentioned being under the weather. I hope it wasn't something drawn out that caused his passing.

Operative word there being "perception" of happiness, btw, yeah @David De Lucena?

 

I vote no to background music. I think music should be listened to.

Sometimes it is extreme: I've heard stuff that sounded absolutely horrible in the background, but, with attention, became interesting.

Having a friend who is into neuroscience, I searched for his name there. Found an article on how reading makes us almost imperceptible move muscles. My friend is the guy in the pic*. One of his main areas of research is the effect of music on the brain. Great job!


*And I'm guessing that that is not hairdressing, even though it looks like it!

 

I've read (though I'll be damned if I can find the article) that it depends on the type of job being performed.

Mindless or repetitive tasks seem to benefit (housecleaning, cooking, yard work)...

...but if it requires thinking (creative writing, serious math etc) the beauty of music can indeed become a distraction.

At least that makes the most sense to me.

 

I cant even sleep without background music anymore

 

I can’t grade papers and listen to music although I’ve tried many times. Slows me to crawl. Takes 5 times as long, and I make mistakes. Music is just to powerful a stimulus on my neurons.

 

Try some Satie or Poulenc. Otherwise Bach's Well Tempered Clavier is nice...

 

Relying on significant brainpower, then music will distract. (another, at length) I have made ton of mistakes that way in calculations and decision making.
Doing techincal datasheets out of products I design; I don't think I want to do it without pleasurable distractions.
