Avatar was so awesome. I was really touched how the show made it a point of showing the devastation caused by war. The kids watched it again from start to finish a second time around just last year.

BTW, while the writing of the last 2 seasons was shit, I feel the acting was first rate.

To check on the acting I asked a geek-friend if Jon was such an Idiot in the books. He said he totally was a complete moron. Jon and others characters were rendered more than competitively.

Cheers to Harington! Cheers to Sophie Turner! You guys kick ass.

On the last episode, I felt most of the acting was generally bad. Tyrion, for example, was great all throughout the series. He was plain bad in the last episode. Even great actors can't stand against bad writing, I guess.

I can't quite tell if Kit Harrington is doing a bang on good job due to terrific acting or by simply doing nothing. If you get what I mean.

But yes, the level of acting has been a consistently high point throughout all 8 seasons.

The first three seasons were some of my favourite television episodes ever. I generally liked season 4 but Tyrion's whitewashing/changing of the Tywin and Shae killing raised alarm bells for me. In the books, Shae's killing is straight up murder while in the show they tried to make it look like some kind of self defense. They also completely removed the part about Tysha, which is a storyline that truly highlights Tywin's villainy and contempt for Tyrion and was the final straw that lead to the murder.

Season 5 is where it started to fall apart for me. The Dorne plot was absurd and the lead-up and plotters' motivation to kill Jon didn't make sense to me. They were only pissed that he let wildlings in, whereas in the books it was because he was planning to march to Winterfell to fight the Boltons - actually breaking his vows in the process as the Night's Watch is a neutral party in Westeros.

I realise that I come across as a book reader elitist, but it increasingly seemed the D&D were doing away with a lot of the 4th and 5th books subplots and attempting a watered down (if not nonsensical) take on them. I don't blame them too much for this, as GRRM has introduced so many storylines that he's seemingly having trouble wrapping up his own series. Once the books ran out entirely, however, they were fully exposed. The writing in Season 7 felt like the lowest point ("Uncle Benjen! How?!") and I had some optimism that they'd manage to pull together a team to bring the story to a satisfying conclusion. These were the same guys who built on the book material to give us awesome show-only moments such as Robert Baratheon's scenes in season 1 and the Tywin and Arya scenes in season 2 after all.

I should have instead remembered that these guys wrote the Arya vs. the Terminator Waif in season 6 scenes, with her being stabbed and then brushing it off after a round of parkour in Braavos. Season 8 accelerated fast to being disappointing and then even more into the realm of being insulting to its audience. I've had show-only watchers tell me how awful they feel after every episode past episode 3, as they saw their favourite show in free-fall. Character arcs were rendered pointless in the rush to end the show. HBO, themselves fans of the show, begged D&D for a ten episode season but they would only do six. One wonders why, other than a rush to go start work on that Star Wars trilogy and earn those Disney megabucks. Rushed is an understatement of how season 8 was.

I do believe that Dany will go mad and burn King's Landing in the books as well, as GRRM supposedly shared some major endgame points with D&D, but they were left to draw their own conclusions as to how and this is the best they could come up with/surmised was enough for their audience.

That was brilliant! Would have been even better if it wasn't one person acting out the pitch to themselves, and maybe better comedic timing, but the point was there. In fact, it was actually quite ironic that the comedian was making fun of the GOT writers while being limited themselves by sticking to their own specific constructs. Okay, that makes it even better!

    Indeed 100%.

Welp D&D are definitively in the incompetent list. Disney fucked up again. Hope HBO learns not to hire those two again. They sure messed up a good product.

I don't really like anime much either, although Cowboy Bebop is very good, and Dragon Ball is very nostalgic of my childhood. I thought One Punch Man was great, it pokes fun at the things about anime that I don't like.

I recommend The Legend of Korra if you haven't seen it yet. Same guys who created Avatar and it's excellent.

I generally feel the same way. I do like shows such as Gurren Lagann and Kill La Kill, which are over the top and satirical in the same way as One Punch Man.

At the very least, these sorts of shows have given me dumb phrases to use in everyday life, including "Don't believe in yourself. Believe in the me that believes in you!"
