I used to be a structural engineer... now I manage them. I don't get to do the fun stuff anymore :(

I'm leaving Sonarworks in 2 weeks. My new job will be - head of international marketing at a local machine translation company.

Turning my hobby into a day job didn't work out for me. So I figured to change the job and keep the hobby.

That's funny you write this as I'm attempting to get into the headphone industry. I know I don't want to be a personal trainer at the gym I train at, and with my past jobs I never wanted to just "chill" off the clock at work.

I hope that my project is successful, and will be my contribution to the hobby. If it leads somewhere that would be great!

Right now, I'm a part-time caregiver for my mom who has Multiple Sclerosis. My dad has a bad back and knee so my help is appreciated.

My other part-time job is a speaker technician at Rockford Fosgate. I measure things there too! Hahahaha

We can make separate thread regarding "hobby monetisation", I'm sure other members will have their opinions to throw in.

Long story short - I like deep diving the topics I'm into, I got burnt out with photography even without working as a photographer. Same story with audio, getting back home from the office and checking stuff out on the forums got nausea-inducing after almost 4 years. Audio used to be something I did to relax and satiate curiosity, but lately it hasn't been good for any of that.

Btw, Rockford Fosgate makes some of the most insane sub drivers I've ever seen... I hope you're having fun there! (and have a mic with calibrated low end response)

My current job is my also first job out of college - I look at online applications for personal loans. It's your typical entry level job I suppose: quite repetitive and rudimentary. But I really liked the people there and have made some connections that I know I'll cherish for a long time so overall, not bad at all. Have about 2 more months to go there so I'll try to enjoy its good side as much as possible. After that, back to school again.

I no longer make music or work on films ever (don't have the time). MFA landed me not much aside from $100k in debt.

Now I sell expensive toys almost exclusively to members of orfas.org - fun fact, personally broke $1M in sales from mid-October til now!

I also mod headphones and have picked up some consultation / prototyping projects for mass-market consumer electronics.

I miss making things and experimenting on a larger scale with collaborators.

Scratch headphones are next in the pipeline once those loans are paid off. I'll check in again in 25 years.

Believe it or not about 85% of the sales are via phone calls. Many of my customers don't have wifi or email addresses. Blows my mind honestly.

@Jinxy245 There'll be more .slew stuff in the future. Just need to streamline my workflow - I have too much playback gear, not enough production gear.

Everything I've made for .slew was with a mouse and headphones. No hardware synths, sequencers, or midi controllers. Takes a **long** time and I don't have that luxury anymore.

I'm considering picking up a SP-404 and doing some feedback networking with it into my tape decks and laptop. That way I can start making sounds immediately.

Sorry for the tangent. I miss my own music too.

Been a few years since this thread started. I still make jokes in video games at Blizzard. Now I also teach people how to make jokes in video games.

    Eww, machine translations.

    I'm a non-machine translator.

Well, I'm back at Sonarworks... So yeah, back to getting paid for manipulating the masses.

MT is actually pretty helpful for meat-based translators. You guys should have a whole suite of tools to make the boring stuff less tedious.
