I had the factory swap my chip, and have no ringing. On that note tho, when I had the original chip, every 1-2 months it would do that, just starting outputting a ringing tone (I left it on 24/7). A simple reboot of the Modi Multibit fixed it every time.

I've had my modi Multibit over a year, I've had the "ringing" twice. I wouldn't describe it as ringing though. It was more like echo or reverb. I normally turn it on at 6am and shut it off at 6pm everyday so it gets fresh boot ups constantly.

Why not just leave it on? It uses so little power and the schiit Multibit stuff is specifically meant to be left on to sound best. May as well buy another DAC that doesn't have those limitations if you're concerned about electricity.

I'm not concerned about power and I don't think it matters on a Modi Multibit nearly as much. It's good to go after an hour or 2 I can't hear a diff after that. I get home at 6 so I fire it all up and then power down when I leave 12 hours later. On Friday morning I get home for the weekend it all stays on until Monday :)

Previously, I had no ringing for what must have been over 6 months though I may have power cycled during that time. It's been about 2 months since I did the chip swap.

I'll hopefully remember next time that it only manifests when music is being played (i.e. silence when paused), whereas tube stuff is there all the time.

From my experience it takes about 48 hours for it to stablize from cold. And the difference between a couple of hours and 2 days of being left on was not subtle.

But if you can't hear a difference then more power to you.

Really ? I'll have to pay more attention. If it's cold I can definitely tell but it seems to stabilize for me quickly. It's actually warm to the touch within a couple hours. Even through my headphone setup I haven't noticed.

The schiit Multibit dacs are definitely temperamental the first few days after cold. It may sound stabilized after a few hours because it does sound very good, but it is not done changing. I would pay close attention for a couple of days of being left on at least. I even experienced more changes with the modi after 2 days but they we're more subtle. How resolving your other gear is also plays a factor but even mid-fi stuff should be obvious.

Clearly many have way better ears than I do, as neither the Modi MB nor Gungnir Multibit sound noticeably different to me after just a couple hours of use. So if you are cloth-eared like me, don't worry, be happy.

I’ve had the ringing issue come back just once since having the firmware updated at the factory, but it still goes away after turning the unit off and on.

I am auditioning a Modi MB right now. I posted impressions on another forum, but given that I'm still a newbie here and that my impressions are somewhat critical, it would be poor form to repost. However, I'm reading through as much of this thread as I can and intend to give the Modi a few days before a final call.

One thing I will say is that the attributes and listening process reminds me of a full range speaker. You've got the coherence, the organic presentation, the palpable texture and timbre that suits strings/winds/horns and smaller ensembles - but there's also the peaky mids/lower treble, higher noise floor, slightly closed in and congested soundtsage, and the *really* long break in time. Unfortunately I've always been really sensitive to that peaky part of the midrange so the Modi may be a deal breaker, but I will give it time. I had to move on from full range speakers for the same reason.

The coaxial input is greatly preferred over the usb, if I may put it mildly.

    Setup: PC-->Modded XMOS USB/SPDIF converter-->MoMBy-->Modded JLH Class A headamp--> Senn 58x&599

I found Modi 3 to be devoid of the shoutiness the Modi Multibit is known for. I would seriously consider it as well. Really high performing DAC for dirt cheap. And doesn't have the typical D/S sound.

Is this a thing? I don't remember mention of it (but I'm a dotard).

I hear notice no difference between a Modi Multibit left on for a couple hours vs several days, chain is RPi -> Modi Multibit (both V1 and V2) -> Black Widow -> 6XX/800S/Verum 1.

I'm definitely on the less discerning end of the listening spectrum though.

Me neither. Maybe it only works for those living in cold places?

It wasn't super offensive or anything but I noticed it over time. And I've heard others mention it. Moreso in comparison to Gungnir Multibit.

Could also be I had a v1 and v2 has improved this aspect, but not sure.

Nothing terrible, bit I did notice it over time ( no matter the transport or input).Mine was first generation (2016). Have not noticed this with the Modi 3. Would like to get the A2 verison, as I did like it.

I think the A2 firmware lessened whatever glare there might have been. I don't hear anything vs my Modi 3.

Same here. When I just got the Modi Multibit, I plugged it in, played music and loved it immediately. I tried leaving it on for 12h but could not detect any significant change. That said, I live in a tropical climate and 15 minutes is enough for the Modi Multibit to get from ambient temp to scorching hot. Maybe I should leave it on for longer and listen.
