Not to stray too far from capacitors, but if you're going to use an LPAD for your headphone out, be sure to use the best resistors you can afford.

Obviously the only option would be Audio Note's $50/each silver resistors. I would be interested in others' experience with boutique resistors, I usually top out at Dale available from Digikey and Mouser.

I haven't meaningfully tried any new caps lately, though a listening comparison between whatever the top Mundorf is and a V-Cap had the Mundorf come out as preferred mainly for bass control. Those Mundorfs continue to come out as s appealing in their price bracket.

I recently had my hp amp modded and installed some mills non inductive resistors to replace stock. Nice improvement. I would try some AN but I need 1 ohm rating and not sure if they make them in that value. Any other up market ones that I should look for?

I like Mills resistors, nothing wrong with them. But I got some Path Audio ones on-sale for the tweeters. Will be interesting if there's any difference (fun but "expensive" experiment).

thanks @winders but I have not been able to find either in a 1 ohm and 2 to 5 watt rating.

Those white Audyns look just like Sonicaps. Anyone know if they're the same?

I picked up several pairs of Mills to narrow down the value I wanted, and once I decided on that I swapped them for Duelunds and the difference is certainly audible. Four times the price, but not really expensive in the overall scheme of things.

What did you notice between the two? I've be lazy about putting in my Path Audio resistors.

The Duelunds sound less hazy - I think that is the correct word....

I did exactly the same thing with the Mills and the Duelands. I do that with caps, too -- get inexpensive ones to experiment with crossover points, then upgrade to better once once I've chosen the value.

im surprised that the Audyn copper was so much "lesser" soudning then the Jupiter but the more I read about the audyn copper, the more often people seem to find them a bit too rich.

here's a guy comparing audyn copper vs Audio note copper:
"After listening to them for a few days, then putting back the audionotes, can't say I'm a big fan of the Audyns. Tonally full and rich, but not refined/delicate (enough for me). The audionotes do seem a little more cleaner, clearer and 'lighter' in presentation, but I still prefer it over the Audyn."

I'm curious about AN copper caps. The jupiter failure/sound degrading over time report turns me off

Anyone have experience with AN copper? im very close to just buy them for the 1st order cap in my A26. not cheap at 160 CAD$ for a 3.3 uf.

Honestly not sure if it'd do anything opposed to just the film stuff you can buy for next to nothing, but...
I'm trolling around with high voltage high frequency stuff. Making my own capacitors now. Not so easy... Anyway, it should be quite possible (and much easier) to make an almost zero self-inductivity and very low esr caps, from copper/aluminum foil, polyethylene or even better mica if you can find it, for audio use.
Stack the square plates and film, enclose the whole thing in some resin and/or wax. Might be worth a shot at trying, considering it costs absolutely nothing. 0.1mm polyethylene film would do for more than 2000 volts, and give a nice amount of capacitance too, so... The only downside I see is that they could be a bit big.

Just got some Miflex Aluminum PIOs and am very impressed, especially for the cost. No experience with Duelunds - the most I've spent on caps were Ampohm Aluminum PIOs, ClarityCap MRs, and Jantzen Superiors. Primarily for speaker builds. The Miflex are replacing some Sprague Vitamin Qs on a modded JLH-based headamp. They sound great even with just a few hours on them. And the price... sheesh.

There are relatively cheap Russian capacitors which is pretty excellent for the price like FT-2, FT-3 (teflon) or K40Y-9 (PIO)
