This IEM was a bit confusing for me. I didn't spend too much time with them as I could tell early on that they aren't something I'm looking for. I do have to credit Sony on their build quality and packaging, both of which are worthy of a headphone this expensive. The same is true with the MDR-Z1R, which I have a pair of at my office. Also the comfort on these wasn't an issue for me.

I listened to them out of the ZX300 and my phone and had to almost max out the volume on both. I didn't care for the sound out of either. The bass was emphasized, the midrange sounded thin and it seemed disjointed between the highs and lows. It seemed like it was trying to have a large soundstage for an IEM but failing and instead sounded collapsed and boring. I remember switching to my Solaris and then not wanting to switch back. I figured these probably just needed more power to drive them, but it kind of defeated the purpose of portability for me.

I meant to try these with my Jotunheim at my office, but didn't get the chance. That's what I use with the MDR-Z1R, so I figured they'd probably work well with these too. I did try them out of my home amp (EC Studio) and I enjoyed them a lot more. There was no hiss, and the sound opened up a lot more and sounded more cohesive. But then I decided I'd rather just listen to one of my full size headphones. I'm not really sure who this IEM was designed for, but it's not for me.

    Did you use 4.4mm output?

I did on the ZX300. It still seemed to have trouble driving them.
