No way! It's a sad fact that most of our animal friends die first --- and we are here for each other.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Both of my cats passed away in December (one more or less expected at 18 and one completely unexpected) and while I’ve recovered from the shock, I still miss them greatly.

There is nothing that can be said to lessen the pain.
Sometimes knowing that others share in the grief can make the experience more bearable.
No you're not bumming us out (at least not me), no worries.

My wife and I rescued a little 2-3 year old German Shepherd in October 2015. We changed his name from Bronco to Brock Lee. He's about 65 lbs with the ears and bushy tail of a much larger dog and is the sweetest dog I've ever had. I've had GSDs my entire life and he's easily the best of all of them. Here are some pics of him:
Me (when I still had glasses and longer hair) mocking how goofily he lays at the top of the stairs and him having none of it.

    He LOVES tortilla chips.

    He also loves pillows.

For anyone with a larger dog, these beds are at Costco for like $40 or so and they are awesome. He absolutely loves these beds. They're very plush and comfy and have the added bonus of the rounded edge that he leans against. He's always got to be leaning on something...a wall, the ottoman, the couch, nearby people...

    Gorgeous!

My dogs are the same way. They need a surface to lean on at all times!

I guess no one is really leaning here.

    Great dog, nice pics!

I grew up with those dogs, Alsatians we called them then. Only thing is that they were one-man dogs, and neither of them actually liked me. After they had both gone, we got a golden retriever. Utterly different world: we were puppies together!

The one on the floor is adorable! Is that a puppy?

Thanks! And yeah, he's definitely my dog. My brother lives with us as well and Brock likes him as well as my wife, but when I'm home, he's ALWAYS by me. The only time he's not is when I'm annoyed with a video game or something work-related (and he thinks I'm mad at him) and he slinks away. It's nice to be that loved but I also have absolutely no privacy or solitude...

We adopted Charlie back in June. Definitely the smallest dog I've ever had but he's a sweetheart. He's very obedient, walks with me without needing a leash, loves to snuggle and is very protective.

    He's all ears

Wow! She looks so young for 8. Is she a pit mix of some sort? And I assume the answer is yes, but she and the Puggle get along well? Is the Puggle in charge?

Some small dogs have big-dog attitudes. You can see it in the eyes

I’ll tell her you said that! Lol.

    Shes a boxer/Rhodesian ridgeback mix.
They’re best friends, and the pug is very much in charge.

Our vet said, from the dogs perspective, the pecking order in the house is

    -Me
    -Pug
    -My wife
    -big dog

    lol

Ha! The locals in my apartment courtyard often say the same about his big dog attitude when he runs up and starts barking at the dogs 2 or 3 times his size as he inevitably does. He's probably the smallest dog out there.

Little hotdog roasting in the sun. Composition is shit because shot from the hip, but I think I got decent focus considering it's a smartphone pic.

    P.S.
The above doggo is the one that bit me when one of the other floofers was in heat. He's been mellower lately. Not sure if that's the actual heat lately or the fact that he's on medicine that allows him to eat chicken— he LOVES the little cluckers but they usually trigger allergic reactions.

This is Norman. He was a somewhat rare rescue being an English Bulldog (our shelter didn't see many of these guys). We lost him about four months ago at the age of 10, but instead of the sad bits of that I thought I'd share a few pictures of this absolute goofball with y'all, and raise a glass to my buddy. This idiot brightened my days for the better part of a decade and I'm immeasurably better for it. Glad to see a pet appreciation thread here. We don't deserve these dummies!
