Does anyone here know how to measure the DC resistance of headphone drivers?

When I had received my Verum 1 for the first time, it had a significant channel imbalance issue that I had to return it for another pair. The second pair seemed okay at first, but it also gradually developed channel imbalance until it became quite noticeable.

Upon addressing this issue to Verum Audio, I was asked to measure the DC resistance of both drivers, and that if the difference is within 0.5 ohm, then it's okay. I have never measured this before, nor do I have any tools, but Verum told me that any local electronics repair shop could easily measure this. I've contacted several electronic shops in the neighborhood, but apparently none of them have experience with measuring headphones.

Well, for a start, I bought a multimeter that supposedly measures resistance. There are 2 tips (red and white), but I have no idea where they should be placed on the Verum 1. Any tips?

With the headphone connected, place either one on the amp end of the headphone cable at the tip and the other one on the 2 locations up the barrel (1 at a time of course). Whether it reads + or - resistance is immaterial, it's the number that counts. You will have individual measurements for each driver on the the 2 locations. Tip is the shared ground.

Edit: oops mdr30 got it right, the tip and next section , ring, are the 2 drivers the sleeve or barrel is the ground (closes to the cable) and yep dzerh adds a good point too

... and use the same channel on the cable used to measure both caps. To exclude variations from the cable. Probes with crocodile clips may be more convenient.

To the ones that got their new pads, mine arrived and they dont have the metal ring thingy, which means that they fall constantly because there's nothing holding them in place. As fair as i can see i can't remove the metal ring from the original pads and put them on these ones.

    Can any1 confirm this please?

The metal rings come out of the original. They are a snug fit, so they might seem glued but they aren't.

My repaired unit came with a pair of perforated pads and there were rings in the pads. And yes, you can take the rings out of the original pads.

I preferred the sound using perforated pads as they took away the last bit of harshness, making Verum One sounded quite smooth, but the bass became a little weaker. My final choice was using ZMF Eikon pads with one layer of TP, but as mentioned above, pads don't affect sound that much comparing to many other headphones.

My perforated pads come with metal rings included, so I guess their absence in your case was a mistake. If you don't want to remove them from the original, then contact Garuspik in PM. I guess he will send a pair for you.

my only issue with him is, sometimes he sugarcoat things and is not very critical in his review. But I enjoy his channel in YouTube and take his review with grain of salt.

Well I have to take my words back...his review of Verum is actually quite good and one of his better reviews done in recent time.

Hello! A brief update on shipping status of earpads:
    - All pads ordered before August 10 are shipped.
    - All pads ordered between Auguts 10 and 1 September will be shipped this week.
Please understand that those pads are hand-crafted and you won't be disappointed neither with sound nor with comfort.

p.s. Please understand why I don't reply on emails like "where're my earpads". I'd better make them quicker instead of writeing why I'm making them slowly ;)

Hi, I just received my repaired unit and it came along with the new perforated pads that I ordered from the website. The new perforated pads were already attached to the cups and had the metal ring inside.

I have been using the perforated pads these days and, while i understand why many would prefer them, to be honest i prefer the original ones and the thing is mostly because i like that "distance" between the Verums and the HD800 SDR, the fact that they do not sound anywhere close but still manage to give me some much enjoyment is great and i never had that with anything else, excepting the Abyss and the HD600.

I treat pads as tuning parts and consumables. So in future I'll try to propose a set of pads with the most different sound I can achieve with swapping only pads.
Why not? There is no "ring to rule them all". Now experimenting with suede.

Based on cskippy's measurements for the Verum with Perforated Pads, I'm currently trying out the following EQ settings for Equalizer APO:
(Added airy sub-bass +6dB. Added treble +3.5dB. Slight tweaks in low bass & high mids)

Harman EQ for Verum with Perforated Pads
    Preamp: -13.5 dB
Filter: ON LSC 0.31 dB Fc 6 Hz Gain 6 dB
Filter: ON LSC 20 dB Fc 28 Hz Gain 7.5 dB
Filter: ON PK Fc 55 Hz Gain -2.6 dB Q 0.4
Filter: ON PK Fc 930 Hz Gain -2.5 dB Q 5
Filter: ON PK Fc 2000 Hz Gain 2.5 dB Q 3
Filter: ON PK Fc 4500 Hz Gain 4 dB Q 0.65
Filter: ON PK Fc 5000 Hz Gain -1.6 dB Q 3

Flat Bass EQ for Verum with Perforated Pads
    Preamp: -7.5 dB
    # Filter: ON LSC 0.31 dB Fc 6 Hz Gain 6 dB
Filter: ON LSC 20 dB Fc 28 Hz Gain 7.5 dB
Filter: ON PK Fc 55 Hz Gain -1.1 dB Q 0.4
Filter: ON PK Fc 930 Hz Gain -2.5 dB Q 5
Filter: ON PK Fc 2000 Hz Gain 2.5 dB Q 3
Filter: ON PK Fc 4500 Hz Gain 4 dB Q 0.65
Filter: ON PK Fc 5000 Hz Gain -1.6 dB Q 3

Hope this should satisfy those of us still waiting for oratory1990's EQ for the Verum 1.

You are in good company with these phones.
I purchased impedance adapters a long time ago and forgot about them.
I Just started using them with different amps.
The Crack is OTL and 120 ohm output. I am using a 150 ohm adapter and they have been on for several days. I just haven't needed anything else, music, movies, games.
I love the open stage. Verite is excellent but the room has walls. Verum is more like being outdoors and refreshing.
With the SW51+, I use the 80 ohm adapter and again it is an improvement.
I don't need one with the phonitor e.
