Different color, but yeah. The one in the movie color is like $1k, this one I got new for $175
Yeah, it is really cool, and at $175, not bad price.
Cool 80s vibe, and designed by the guy who designed the Delorian, along with many other cars

Love the face and the watch looks good in black but that buttons attachment... Is it something you had to get used to wearing or do you just not notice it? Does it change where on your wrist you normally wear your watch?

Got tired of that Fitbit tracker, needed something a classier to do its job. Got an Apple Watch 5 with a milanese loop wristband, seems to fit quite comfortably and looks are as exptected from photos. Not too flashy bright silver or plain jane.

It has the cheaper aluminum body (vs stainless steel), cos I'm not willing to pay for longevity with a digital device.

E: For future updates, it could be a bit thinner.

Oops, ya, sorry, haha. Nice to know wearability doesn’t suffer.

The tech in these devices is just starting to get to the point that year-to-year updates don’t bring huge usability advances but it still doesn’t really make sense to spend a ton of money on something that has a < 5 year life span. I love the look of the white ceramic model with a plain black strap though, too bad it’s $1349.

Totally. I have a "real" steel watch (a Finnish Leijona) that is about 25 years old and still works great. The wristband has been changed and that glass has been through much.

When all is said and done, that Leijona (Lion in finnish) will still do it's job and look like the rugged piece of gear it is. This Apple Watch will (hopefully) be recycled somewhere. I'm enjoying the sleek looks right now, though.

I have a Pebble Steel that still functions OK after 5 years. Pebble was one of the original "smart" watch brands. They were bought out by Fitbit quite a while back and most of the app/watchface ecosystem is gone now, though there are still some 3rd party ones available. It's not really very smart, it's basically just an auxiliary display for the phone with the ability to send some basic commands back via the buttons, but really that is all I ever needed, and being monochrome and basic the battery still lasts about 4 days on a charge (down from a week when it was new). It displays caller ID and text messages and can control the music player, but I rarely wear it for that. Mostly it's good for displaying Time/Speed/Distance when I am biking via Runkeeper, and distance to the green via Freecaddie when I am golfing, and those are about the only times I wear it.

Not sure what I will replace it with when it gives up, if anything. Samsung has some nice Gear models. Don't have an iPhone so iWatches are out for me. I really like the Tag Heuer Connected, but...$$$. I agree spending a lot of money on something effectively disposable seems silly to me, but then again it's not that different from the phones themselves.

I dig the metal G-Shocks, but this understated square just looks cooler. The original Mud-Man was the 5500 a.k.a. G-Shock (mark) II. I can skip the metal one for this. What remains is this: vintage or reissue?

Ok. Sorry for the delay but here are the rest of my timepieces.

This one I bought when I was late twenties and could not afford a decent watch but it is still going strong:

The first watch my Wife bought me when we were dating...to replace the one above. :)

This is a beauty and I had to buy it. Maybe 10 years ago or so...give or take
    [IMG]

The second watch my wife bought me, and it has seen a lot of wear. Needs to be buffed out.

My fav watch when I'm active.

This one I love. I rarely wear it but I just dig the style.

Again, the same model as above but different colors. I haven't worn this one out yet so that is why the clear plastic is still on the face.

This was my Great Grandfather's, passed to my Dad and then to me. This watch is what started me on my antique watch collection but sadly I needed the money and sold them all off. I could never sell this one though. I'm working on a deal with an old master of time to restore it as I type. It is a self winder.

I went to a local watch shop (Authorized seller of Orient, Ball, Tag Heuer, etc) intending to snag an Orient Mako 3 (with sapphire crystal) to use as my daily driver. I wanted one that looks good and has sapphire crystal and the Mako 3 fit the bill.
While I was there, a Ball promotion was being conducted and the Bicentennial caught my eyes (guess I got tired of same color for dial and bezel combo) so I went for it as well.

Needless to say, I'll be having instant noodles and cheap TV dinners for the six months at least...:( But these puppies are so worth it for me!:headbang:

Sooo, I couldn't really find a dressy/cocktail watch that had everything I wanted for a price that I wanted, so I turned one of these:
    Into this:
I polished the case, swapped the band, added a double domed sapphire crystal with blue AR, and changed the dial. Removing and reinstalling the hands were the sketchiest parts. Everything else wasn't too bad. Still using the stock hands because I like their shape and lume, but do wish they had polished metal surfaces around the lume instead of white. I could have bought a new set, but didn't feel like spending another $40. All in all, I am very pleased with the results. 38mm usually looks/feels too small on my wrist, but as a dressy watch, I think it is just right.

I also hate this thread for triggering this new obsession. Time to sell of some audio gear...

FYI, just to clarify, I'd mistakenly identified my Orient as a Mako 3 (which has mineral glass), I was mistaken. I'm told it's a common misconception, mine isn't the Mako 3, it is the Kamasu (Barracuda).....seems Orient watches of different (but similar looking) models have always been misidentified. That's why mine, the Kamasu, comes with Sapphire crystal instead of the mineral glass of the Mako 3 (really had me scratching my head on that one before buying it, was wondering what made my 'Mako 3' so special due to the sapphire crystal.

Edit - @fraggler , that's one outstanding DIY job on the Seiko 5, looks like a totally different watch!

So, definitely need to sell some audio gear, because I am falling hard for watches (particularly modding them). Just finished shortening and installing a shark mesh bracelet on to this newly acquired Seiko SNZH53J. I have a sapphire crystal and a new dial coming, but this is a very handsome watch as is.

After this, I think only a low-end G-Shock for watersports and I am done til I can afford a big boy Omega or Rolex.

Sorry to spam, but the above SNZH53J now looks like this:

New dial with a Seigeiha pattern and a domed sapphire crystal. Love the pattern but the real draw is the lume:

Feel like a kid that just scored a cool new glow in the dark toy. Very pleased with how it turned out. Maintained at least 7ATM of water resistance according to my DIY wet tester.

Outstanding job! The one mod I haven't attempted yet is changing the case finish (I have a polished case that I want to brush, but I'm a chickenshite).

I love the dial... I've never come across anything like it before... where did you get it?

Thanks! Both of my replacement dials came from luciusatelier.com. Adriel, the owner, is really trying to do unique dials, not just the million homage variations out there.

Polishing a case is probably easier than brushing one nicely. I just threw a polishing wheel on my Dremel and used some Mother's polish and went to town. Brushing would require some steady work to keep the lines nice.

Ran across something extremely unusual in NYC...a tourbillon from the now defunct Alain Silberstein.

I actually really like the design, there's a wonder and whimsy to it and the amount of different finishings and materials is amazing. The case has an enamel inlay, the cage has multiple metals and polishings and I don't even know how they achieved the fine polishing on the black dial surface.

For a real, handmade tourbillon the price is unbelievably good. But I don't even know if this watch can be serviced period. Silberstein's US service center won't work on tourbillons at all. The lady at the AD was very upfront about this and told me that critical component failures will cost a pretty penny if they can be addressed at all.

I've been budgeting for a proper dress watch for some time now, and I keep getting distracted by these shiny and flashy pieces. I'm surprised by how much I want it, even though I know that buying this is the watch equivalent of getting a 90s Ferrari with no service record.
