Mithrandir41, if you already have a solid amp and don't need portability, get a Qutest. It was recently reduced to $1,695 and nothing else comes close in my opinion.

I'm getting small electric shocks from my Lyr 2, including from headphones connected to it. Only small, like static electric shocks. Is that normal?

How do I check the grounding? The power board doesn't have any indicator. It's doing it on the board and directly into the wall socket too.

Many power strips do have grounding light or fault indicator in it that's the easiest way to find out.
For eg. One from Tripp lite or many others

I owned a Lyr 2 a few years back and I think it did the same thing, but only during the Winter months when the inside air was really dry from running a central heating system. Although I don't remember this being an issue with any other amp I've owned.

Quick tip for those who have carpet and really dry air....Take a spray bottle and mix a 10:1 ratio of water and liquid fabric softener. Mist the carpet with it every few weeks, and the static discharge issues will be reduced to almost never.

I would note however that fabric softener works by depositing a very thin film onto fabrics, so eventually this will build up. In rare cases it could be a skin irritant as well (my brother is allergic for example). As long as you vacuum regularly and periodically use a carpet cleaner, it should be fine.

A room humidifier isn't a terrible thing, and they're cheap enough to try. Or just touch a light switch (specifically the screws on the plate) to discharge any static buildup on your body before handling your gear.

If I get a multimeter, where do I check and what am I looking for?

I noticed today, it doesn't do it immediately once powered on. Does that indicate it could be static electricity discharge? It's Spring in Australia but it's in my air conditioned office.

My UERM's connector is getting loose and would fall out sometimes when I take it out of the case. Outside of reshelling what can I do to make it tighter?

I was offered Valab NOS dac (luxury edition) as a trade for Gemtune PA 1501A amp.I need a cheap optical DAC for TV but have no idea what it is and what it is worth vs the amp. I leaning towards another Modi 3 but would not mind to hear some NOS stuff.
Please respond if you know anything about this DAC.

Valab is apparently rebrand of the TeraDak NOS DAC. There's more info around looking up that one.

Looking to buy a tripowin c-8 cable for the blon bl-03 but I was wondering if I need to get 2 pin 0.78mm or qdc.

Edit: if both work does one have more compatibility with other iems and does one work better?

From the image of the Blon BL-03 below, you'll need the QDC connector. A traditional 2 pin will work, but it won't sit flush to the IEM like the QDC would.

I know I've hated on CHORD, but the current iteration of Qutest is one of their best DACs, especially from a price/performance POV. Shhhh.

Will the 2 pin fit more iem's? Plan to buy more in the future and don't want to buy a $24 cable which won't fit anything else.

The standard 2 pin connector is more common.

Has anyone tried the Senn Woodie cups for modding HD6x0 variants? I wanted to try to recreate something similar to JAR mods

A bit of an unusual question here, but anybody have any input/insight on if/how they've successfully pulled off "bit-perfect" streaming in their automobile? My buddy just took advantage of the new Qobuz deals, and he was hoping he could use USB Audio Player Pro to stream from his phone into his truck's USB port but he's not getting any sound. He's using an (Anker) OTG adapter that I think should enable this (unless the vehicle's USB port simply doesn't support anything other than thumb stick file reading).

He came over to my place a month or so ago and we sat around listening to music for 4 or 5 hours on some of my better gear and drinking beer, and he took a real interest... I'd love to be able to help him out a little and encourage him to "join the club" of people who care about quality audio.
