You totally correct, it is easiest way to go. However once i own MB I would like to try to make it work if possible. Perhaps finally come to do with the solution you suggest, thank you.

It doesn't. If you don't like Modi MB from 5 minutes in, then you won't like it 8 hours later.

R2R = resistors. They need a bit of time to stabilize. @atomicbob demonstrated a few measurements on the higher-end Schiit multibit DACs where the jitter results got better over days. Being a computer engineer doesn't mean you are going to understand audio engineering and vice versa. And everybody and their grandmother is a engineer (and musician) on SBAF. The three engineers at Schiit are audio engineers, and even they don't totally understand this shit. They have been on record that the warm-up thing is over-hyped.

FWIW, group blind test involving Modi Multibit: https://www.superbestaudiofriends.o...dge-thunderdome-nov-14-2019.8546/#post-278706

The Schiit Multibit DACs are very sensitive to source. It's possible the sources you listed are not cutting it. I would recommend avoiding USB and optical on the Modi MB. I have doubts about the absolute quality of what you listed as sources for the Modi MB.

You may find improvement on the Modi MB with something like the DigiOne (original or signature). I list that not necessarily because other, better sources wouldn't work, but because I have familiarity with it and the Schiit MB DACs.

That said, the Modi MB may still not be to your taste. And sometimes it makes more sense to stick with devices that aren't as source sensitive if you know you already like them.

I figure if people are used to modern DS stuff, CHORD, Topping, Fiio, and have no objections, then it's best to stick to the Modi 3 if one wanted a Schiit "stack". However, the higher end Schiit R2R-2R DACs (Beef to Yggdrasil) are on a whole 'nother level to Modi Multibit. The level of performance we want from multibit just isn't achievable for less than $300 IMO.

Thank you very much for your advice. I already learned to like coaxial. it is now 24 hours of MB warm up, I still do not see much change but I continue to keep it warm. xDuoo X10T II is considered a clean and good quality transport. I put MB to Onkio AMP through tube buffer and it seems sound OK. We will see...

Another observation is that MB is very cool hooked to Onkyo through tube buffer. When I used it with PC or Magni or Vali it felt hot. This I do not understand at all.

My Modi MB gets warmer than some amps. It still takes in power and has to regulate that down to a few different voltage rails. Plus, there is a DSP processor on board as well. 4-layer board. Lots of tech crammed in that small little box.

Now I am totally puzzled, after some 48 hours warm up MB begin to sound great, airy and spacious with tight lows and good separation. I do not believe it is placebo because I listened it from time to time while it was on warm up and initially was angry feeling that Schiit failed me. Now it is hooked up with Magni and Senh. HD600. I still try it with different genres and internally could not believe what I hear. Now is the question, if I turn it off, do I need to do all over again or it will stay good sounding? Thank you everyone for patience with me, all he thoughtful advice and guidance.

leave it powered on 24x7 for best results, as re-warm up times after power down are needed.

@Tacit , just leave it on all the time. I don't have experience with the Modi Multibit, but with the Yggdrasil, the warm up time seems to be shorter after you've gone through the initial break in of the component. So maybe it won't take as long in the future. Still, just leave it on.

I've had a modi multibit going on 2 years. In my experience about 4 hours warm up time settles it most the way if not completely. I can't notice much otherwise.

Haha, this R2R DAC warmup thing all mumbo jumbo man! You totally drank the Koolaid and bought it hook, line and sinker! Your ears are lying to you and you have confirmation bias! There is no technically possible way this has occurred and no way to measure it or prove that it’s true, so you are now caught up in the mass delusion too and can never go back!

Welcome to the dark side. We have bigger lightsabres.

@Tacit: I'd say that you also go back to your old DS DAC sources and compare.

Yes, while it's generally accepted here that R2R sources tend to sound congested while cold, the "improvements" shouldn't be that dramatic with the Modi Multibit. It's possible that part of the improvement could be you acclimating to new gear. Oftentimes we get used to how something sounds, and then get thrown off when something different comes into the mix. We don't immediately notice the new improved facets while we miss what may have been better from the prior gear.

I'm also kind of curious if your DS sources might now sound harsher, gritty, or grainier, now that you've had a taste of the darkside, which was always really the good side.

Juuuussssst in case it wasn’t 100% clear, and that I didn’t use enough exclamation marks, I WAS joking and being sarcastic.

I think it’s great that @Tacit went into it with a healthy dose of scepticism, but tried something, and then let his ears be the judge (and was pleasantly surprised). This is in contrast of course to those who prefer to rely solely on religious measurement zealotry. Like purr1n said, his experience is probably a combination of acclimation to new sound, along with the burn-in and thermal stabilization, but nonetheless the changes are clearly audible. I’ve heard this change with every Schiit DAC I’ve owned. But it does seem to lessen the older the DAC gets, as others have noted.
