Every Saturday I try a new beer. This time it's Curtius

    AC369936-3D4A-417B-A106-C100CFB0324F.jpeg

Nice bottle with a cork. Has a slight citrus taste to start with a mild hoppy taste afterwards.

I looked more at the white bowl than thinking about the "end of the world." What's the stuff in your bowl?

La Fin Du Monde is a true classic. Remember being up in Montreal for work and ordering one many, many moons ago and thinking it was something special. Was also one of the highest ABV beers I'd ever had at the time, so that made it even more special!

This is a local Breton beer. Lambic style with raspberries. It's very close to Cantillon. I'm getting really impressed with the beers in the region. The black on the can is impressive. I swear half the price went into the can because it's a work of art.

Holy crap, that's looks like a raspberry milkshake! Beery Jelly!

I'll try to remember to post a pic of a local IPA from Aslin later. They're doing some really fun stuff with dry hopped and unfiltered with a tiny bit of lacto.

    Drinking: Krombacker - Pils

    P.S.: I'm typing this drunk!!!!

This is a standard Pils from Krombacker. It is not one of my favorites, but any style from Krombacker is going to be solid (like their regular beer, Hefe, etc.). I been impressed by their solidness than anything else. They don't make one of my favorite Pils (that's Warsteiner due to the balance on the hops and flavor profile), or my favorite Hefe (that goes to Weihenstephan), but that's ok. I can drink this and be happy with the taste profile. It slightly have a little more hops than I would like. However, it's a Pils and you need to increase the spice profile a bit.

I want to make this drunk post about my problems with IPAs in general. My problem with IPAs that they over do the hops too much that I just puke my guts out on it. Also, I think it was made for those who are losing their taste buds (@Gaspasser is on the spot light).

Remember, IPAs were made out of necessary to transport beer in long distances on boats. Hops is a preservative so....

From Dogfish Head, to Cigar City, and the various local breweries we have in Jacksonville, FL, their IPAs are like drinking needles through a glory hole. NO THANKS. I don't get the appeal of IPAs to people. You believe in killing yourself every time when drinking an IPA? I think having a heavy spice profile is so wrong in a beer that I'm borderline offended. Gross.

But I do admit that I'm bias as f**k.

At this point it is easy for me to admit, I'm a big fan of German Beer and how the beer makers in German does their beer. Due to the legacy of the Reinheitsgebot, I do 100% believe that beer should only have Malt, Yeast, Water, and Hops. Add anything else and I'm offended already to the point that I'll scream on TV. That's why the beers that I drink are heavily into the German styles. I haven't found an US brewery that does a good job on a German Profile.

Germans are good for their beer, but not for their expensive as f**k to fix cars.

Also, their beer is so good that it'll make you fat like a pic below shows below. However, it might burn your eyes.

If ever there was a thread where drunk posting is acceptable this is it!

I used to not care for IPAs. They were bitter, tasted like a tin can, and we’re skunky. Sort of like if you were in a Walking Dead scenario scavenging for food and you found a dusty old can of ale that expired 10 yrs ago.

then I tried some double IPAs a few years back. My opinion changed gradually. It turns out I usually don’t like them if the alcohol is under 7%. The high alcohol stuff can be pretty good. I don’t like flavored beers much but the IPAs that have a more citrus like finish are pretty good.

    My 2 local favorites are:

Spicoli from Iowa Brewing Co. - this is made irregularly, but has that great finish and alcohol content was somewhere between 9-11% if I remember correctly. This was the best IPA I tasted in the last year. Probably impossible to find outside of Iowa.

Toppling Goliath brewery in Decorah Iowa does about 6 different IPAs at any one time and I can’t keep them straight. I’ve enjoyed every one I tried. This is live beer so needs to be kept cold. Also probably hard to find outside of Iowa.

Picked up a couple of growlers at my favorite local brewer, who happens to be just around the corner from me: Arkane Aleworks.
Bunny Slippers is a Belgian strong dark ale and Woo-Tang Cran is a sour with cranberry and Tang!

Most standard German Lager, but for a standard Lager it is leagues better than tons of standard American beer.

Like a Lager, easy to drink with good flavor when drinking in your mouth, finish is slightly dry but not overwhelming.

Volcano pours a deep red color; the amount of fruit in this is crazy, but the lactose and vanilla lets it finish like blackberry sorbet. It's delicious, light and airy. I'll have to snap a pic of a pour. And if anybody is in the region, please do check Aslin out, they're truly doin some special beers and get the simple stuff (like Czech and Bohemian Pilz) spot on.

Some of these cans look like they came from Wipeout the video game. Also, 16.5% alcohol on No Bake, but you talk about your dick off. That is making me feel my nipples.....we should rub some sometime.

Toasted Coconut? I'm not convinced that's a good idea. I don't think anything from VA is in my local Total Wine.

Oh, there's a bunch of stuff Aslin does that sounds miserable at first, but the coconut/hefe is superb. i feel like they're getting into the molecular gastronomy of beer. White chocolate and truffles kind of shit.

Does SBAF have a beer trade thing going on? Maybe we should start something. I know for a fact Aslin is pretty much impossible to get outside the DMV.

I ended up with two cases of Corona from Total Wine. Just after the stay at home. I ordered a case of Anchorsteam. Actually got to like it with a burger etc. Funny but seems people aren’t buying it. Jeez.
