And 2nd favorite was the really long and really slow The Irishman.

It's interesting because the two films couldn't be anymore different tonally or stylistically. I don't care for Westerns not because of pacing... I liked Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives... if you can sit through that glacially paced and thematically complex "snorefest" you get a gold star. 2001 A Space Odyssey is in my top 10 of all time, a movie so sterile it could be an advertisement for Clorox.

I like to think of Wolf as the American Psycho that Bret Easton Ellis was originally going to write when he started researching that book. A book that was originally supposed to be about the sociopaths on Wall Street and morphed into a literal psycho serial killer diary and simultaneous takedown of 80s excess and consumer culture. Wolf, besides being DiCaprio's career best performance (don't let his The Revenant Oscar win fool you), with Jonah Hill never being better... it's a film made by a man in his 70s that rivals anything made by directors half his age...

What's your favorite film of the decade Rob?

My favorite would probably be either Rogue One, Captain America: Civil War. or Porn. I don't go in for all this intellectualism in movies.

Here hoping Disney+ will make a tits-and-sorcery version of Star Wars. I was actually thinking if you took the Witcher and replaced swords with light sabres, crossbows with laser rifles, and sorcery with the Force, it would make a better Star Wars than the Rey saga.

I go both ways. Film as art, myth, "intellectual" tragi/comical narrative is everything these things are. Film as product (does Disney do anything other than product), to be consumed and then forgotten, is fine at times as well. Recently i have been binging on "Burn Notice" which is of course light weight T&A slapstick "product"...

Youre leaving out quite a few greats including, 100% seriously, Zardoz, Exorcist II, Where the Heart Is. Point Blank is my all time favorite & ground breaking for its use of color in the day but I'm a fan even of his 'lesser' works which all have merit.

If you haven't seen Zardoz you owe it to yourself. We need to start a loaner thread for great films.

Speaking of sci-fi, did anyone ever watch the Stargate Universe series? Sucks that it got cancelled after 2 seasons - I thought it was an intense, dark and edgy take on the Stargate stuff, the rest of which was pretty damn cheesy. Robert Carlyle who played Dr. Rush in it was awesome.

That's a very low bar. I tried to rewatch TLJ to organize my thoughts about how bad that movie is, and I got maybe a third of the way through.

Yeah, I say again, just because something is written, painted, filmed, etc that doesn't make it 'art'. My favorite movies are not art, they are entertainment.

Don't know how the hell Kathryn Bigelow made Keanu, Gary Busey, and Swayze work together so well on the screen. Sort of the proto extreme sports action movie that Michael Bay wishes he could have made. Bigelow's K-19 was more forgettable, but I blame Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson for trying to one up each other with their fake russian accents.

For some reason, Sam Neill's fake russian accent didn't bother me as much (Hunt for Red October). His were the most memorable lines of the film. Sean Connery just does whatever, because he's Sean Connery.

^ About to grab a double sized beer from 7/11 and stream Red October. I was looking for something new to stream but I haven't seen Red October in a Long time.

I always liked The Hunt For Red October, at least it has real politicians as actors.

I actually think those Marvel movies are most like Bollywood films, as in they try to pack every genre into 3 hours, including comedy and musical.

The great thing about film is that two people can like the same movie for entirely different reasons.

I don't like every Marvel Movie. I thought that Captain Marvel was a bad movie, and I was pretty disappointed in end game actually. But overall I enjoy the tone, and the production value whenever the plot is at least coherent and the characters are done in a way that i can at least go along with it.

I always dislike whenever I'm asked for my favorite x. I almost never have an answer. Ice cream flavor is about the only answer I have nailed down for sure.

And yet I love to read lists of what others offer.

I find it funny when someone has more than one favorite. But nice job on your list. Gave me some real headscratchers.

Also, I have to ask myself does favorite mean:

The one I like the most?
Or the one I think is best?

Often they are not they same.

Just saw Rise of Skywalker. Gave me a massive headache. There were some good moments and I didn't hate it, but I think the pacing was terrible and the ret-conning of the last two movies was super obvious.

Didn't @Boops say he was going to eat a shoe or vote for Trump if JJ did a retcon of over 92%?
