Much love for 3 Idiots. I usually can't watch Bollywood stuff since it is too silly and over the top for me, but 3 Idiots manages to stay sane for long enough stretches that I can enjoy it. I think I have watched it 4 times.

Thor: Ragnarok was one of the most fun movies I have seen in years. Was it silly? Yes. Did I pay attention to plot? Not really. But the comedic performances and chemistry were surprising and fantastic. Unfortunately, it led to the newest M.I.B. which had an amazing cast but tried too hard to be funny and cool.

Mordred killing the blond guy who knighted Arthur with the lance is another great scene. Modern Hollywood would never allow Boorman to adapt the entire myth from Celtic mythology to The Once and Future King in one movie. The only thing he left out was Mordred taking Camelot and beating (and presumably raping) Guinevere.

The suits are not even allowing the latest Dune movie to cover the last third of the book, set a decade or so later where the Fremen prayers to Shai-Hulud come true. Paul becoming the Mahdi and dropping nukes on the unbelievers isn’t how “Star Wars for adults” is supposed to end.

They should have just adapted Planet Hulk and World War Hulk into real movies.

For sure, I liked Ragnarok also. I was thinking Ragnarok was the fourth Thor movie but apparently I was wrong. It was just the second Thor movie that sucked then.

I watched the (in)famous Jackie Chan CityHunter Film, from the CityHunter Manga/Anime.

Long story short: Jackie Chan Humor didn't work well at all with the live action Animu. I should see if the newer French version of City Hunter is better. However, Jackie's version is only good for this below:

    What the...

So was it an overdose of memberberries, an acknowledgement that the First Order ship models being uninspiring, or Palps being senile, that brought back the old Star Destroyers?

And what's up with the scrotum and peepee at the bottom of the new old Star Destroyers where the hanger used to be?

And why didn't Palps just make 50 Death Stars instead of 500 Star Destroyers?

Was the script originally a Harry Potter script adapted for Star Wars?

I prefer power couple Liam Neeson and Helen Mirren who met on the set.

And of course a later version of the Zardoz head makes an appearance

I did a Boorman retrospective last year, found this movie to have a lot more merit than I remembered from seeing it on television years ago.

Seeing the PG cut on TV kills the fun. Same with Die Hard, Conan, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Watched "1917" yesterday. First half of the movie was very cool actually. It was tense, exciting and interestingly shot.
Then came the middle part... I dont know how accurate rifles was back then, but cmon... Luckly, the ending saved it it a little.

    I give it a 6-7/10

The Irishman is a horrible movie. Every single one of the Marvel Universe movies is better. And I haven't even seen most of them.

It captures Italian life of that era in only the most cursory fashion. For all of its length, it has very little character development, it glosses on tropes, and it isn't compelling, none of the characters are compelling, the narrative isn't compelling. It doesn't even achieve nihilism, which is what it seemed to be going for.

Also Scorcese's rationale for not casting younger actors - that they aren't old enough to know the mannerisms and facial expressions and vocal quirks is total bullshit. My grandfather was a steel worker union man. My mom grew up in mob neighborhoods (she has stories about the mob taking care of domestic violence issues, not the cops). My dad was around union mob thugs when he worked at a stamping plant. These guys back then were themselves caricatures. They very much tried to act the part. By the mid 50s it was already a case of mafia dudes play acting out the characters that film had essentially created. One reason why the American mob was so very much different than the Italian mob in Italy, and so disdained by real Italians are cartoonish and immature.

I hope it doesn't turn into some loserish millennial version of Firefly or Guardians of the Galaxy. The loser expendable millennial alien boyfriend at the beginning didn't give me confidence.

In J. Michael Straczynski I trust, but Alex Kurtzman I do not.

That’s mouthbreathing fanboy, anime watcher, video gamer lunacy. The only Star Wars movie that’s well shot and lit is The Empire Strikes Back because Peter Suschitzky shot it. The original is shot like a shitty 70s movie and Return of the Jedi like a soap opera or sitcom. The prequels and sequels all look like dogshit. Phantom Menace is the most credible and that still looks shitty. If anyone thinks The Last Jedi is in anyway a competent movie, then they probably drink fruity lattes at Starbucks and shit orange after guzzling pumpkin spice and think Marvel movies are good.

Empire isn’t even close to his best looking movie. That would be Dead Ringers with Jeremy Irons. Reddit is not going to watch an awesome and totally discomforting movie movie where Jeremy Irons screams about f'ing mutants and would probably call it sexist because they are low T, chinless virgins. The main characters are not paragons of virtue meant to be your dude in a video game. They’re written to be sad, pathetic, creeps and the movie is so effective that people walked out in the opening scenes in a midnight showing I saw years ago. Even the Wolf of Wall Street and 12 Years a Slave took Donny and Michael Fassbender raping people to do that. Dead Ringers is funny as shit if you like ultra dry, black humor.

how much marvel style cgi slow motion did it have?

The rifles were very accurate and in clear daylight, potshots would blow the brains out of anyone who stuck their head over the top of the trench. Except for Russian Moisin Nagants barely made to spec. You can still buy those from the WWI era. You’ll just have to buy a bunch for one that actually shoots well.

Just watched "JOKER". It had no redeeming value whatsoever. I want my 2 hours and $6 back.

I’ve got hope in Picard after watching the first episode. There’s a lot of Kurtzman BS in it, but not as bad as Discovery. (Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally going to continue watching both. I can suspend judgement long enough to be entertained by it.)

The part that threw me off most was Starfleet & the Federation seeming xenophobic & a bit darker. Star Trek/TNG’s vision of a future where we’ve overcome the worst of ourselves was one of the nicer things for me, since I’m normally a bit cynical. I’m sure Admiral Picard will make some Shakespearean speeches, guide the wayward Federation home, and kick Kurtzman out, though...

Star Trek has always had its roots in current political and social commentary/allegory. This is was what Roddenberry was known for and it continued throughout the various series.

Does this statement above remind you of any particular place on Earth these days?
