Chicken is scarce around here, last Saturday we caught them stocking the only chicken in the building as it came in. 2 packs each limit... 4 breasts lol. There's no hope for TP unless you get the same situation as they are wheeling it out. Everything is absurd. I just got asked to work all weekend ... So confused... Most people are out of work. I thought I was supposed to stay home and wipe my bum...

Local Walmarts have been having TP in stock. Purchase limits in place.

The egg thing... that's what I didn't understand about the produce situation last week either.

From what I have seen, Target and my local super markets are out of TP. Japanese super market had a good selection of stuff in stock or at least if they had sections with stuff that was out they filled it up with other stuff.

Eggs were decently in stock at the stores I checked. Saw an article over the weekend that farmers markets have been pretty great at getting groceries lately for getting groceries so check those out if you still have some open at this time.

I've been shopping at Asian and Mexican markets stores because everyone is afraid of them.

Everybody who's stuck at home with nothing to do is baking. Bread, cookies, muffins, etc.

Helps to keep the kids occupied, tastes delicious, can be frozen, requires eggs.

Any advice for those who live in Asia where the Asian markets are more or less as scuppered as the mainstream ones?

I'm with @ultrabike. People are silly. The new SARS-CoV is obviously a scourge but the worst part about this pandemic isn't the fact that there's a virus picking people (both young and old) off, it's that many people are doing exactly the last things they should be doing. People stocking up on groceries when supplies are steady and emptying out their bank accounts because why the hell not.

Maybe, is there markets where only Chinese immigrants mostly shop? I'd try there first.

You can apparently preserve them for quite a while by coating them in mineral oil.

Maybe your area is different, but over here the shortages were only for very specific products. When it came to food, it was just white rice and instant noodles (even brown and wild rice could still be found). Anything 'Western' was still readily available- pasta, steak, salmon. In Sydney where I have a load of friends, I am reading that the cheaper sections of supermarkets might be cleared out, but expensive cuts of meat are still available, and also that butchers right next to the supermarkets (slightly pricier, but better meat) are still stocked up.

What's it like in Manila- have all the supermarkets been cleared of pretty much everything?

I thought you were joking, then I looked it up.

Yeah we have chickens in the backyard, on the side by a gate that goes out to a street. The other night, someone came in and stole the eggs out of the coup. I should have expected this sort of thing to start happening, but the gate is locked now and at least they left the chickens. Anyhow, we get about 3-4 eggs a day - much more than we can consume - and they do preserve well for quite a while.

Thankfully not as bad as I've seen reported elsewhere,
but the panic buying is very much in evidence here too which is why I'm ostensibly more irate than usual, haha. It's gotten to the point where patrons are only allowed X volume of certain items per person, e.g. sanitation, sugar, which doesn't necessarily work for larger families. Also doesn't help that there's the whole "enhanced community quarantine" going on. Outside is a ghost town and when you meet people there's always an element of tension. There are also fears that the lockdown is likely to lead to food shortages past a month, depending on how well people proceed from hereon out.

Enforcement of lockdown is strict as far as anything here in my niche of the Philippines goes, which means checkpoints, impoundment of private vehicles/PUVs in violation, massive volumes of people now out jobs, things like college and NMAT getting shoved backwards indefinitely, whole industries looking grim— same shit as elsewhere in the world really so what's to complain about? There was a mass exodus right before the gates closed which I'm certain didn't result in additional transmissions or proliferation: https://twitter.com/MovePH/status/1239773470243749888. Cebu, which is nowhere near Luzon, also recently went under quarantine to quell the spread of the virus. Number of positive cases growing, but given the fact that the country is EXTREMELY short on testing kits we're nowhere near sure how many are actually infected, hahaha.

What I think is important for people to understand about my area is that it's a mass of nearly 13 million people all packed into just under 620 square km (385 sq. mi.), many of these people living below the poverty line or thereabouts (16.6% below poverty threshold per recent data: https://psa.gov.ph/poverty-press-releases/nid/144752), many of these families consisting of five or six people per, are crammed into small homes packed tightly against one another. Think about those towers in Ready Player One film but less skyscraper and you've got an accurate image: https://nolisoli.ph/19632/bernhard-lang-photography-manila-density-overpopulation/. If the virus doesn't end up eviscerating the population then an inability to acquire basic needs or f'ing mass panic will clean up.

Only 707 confirmed cases with only 45 deaths as of right now. There are 26 that recovered though, some of whom are late 50s~mid 60s. that counts for something.

Sorry for the wall of text. Just been in a bad headspace.

Hiding the wall of text. Kinda regret posting all that but leaving up for posterity.

Put the thieves in the chicken pen when it is feeding time. When chickens are hungry they are basically predators.

P.S. Grew up with chickens. Lovely animals but they have a mind of their own.

You've said it. But if social distancing is what should impact the situation, I guess that's on the menu for time being. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon.

Yesterday i woke tired up but i could not sleep anymore, took me ages to get out of bed. The night before that i had a bit of trouble breathing but nothing major. Yesterday my lungs did hurt at various spots and there was a dryness that made me cough a bit but also a wet feeling lower down, which in retrospect i've had for a week i think(wetness that is). Sense of smell was gone as well and i felt a bit delirious but no fever. Earlier this week i noticed freshly cut gras kicking my ass(fatigue and trouble breathing) more than usual, perhaps i've had it for a while whatever it was.

Today though i woke up early and was not tired at all, bounced right out of bed. Just the tiniest bit of itch where i had the dry feeling but zero pain or wet feeling in my lungs. Sense of smell is a bit better as well.

Not sure if it was the virus or not and i guess i'll never know since i'm not a candidate for testing. I'll just keep following the rules and go on with my life as much as possible.

I lived on savings last year and it took about ten minuted to file, plugging in 0's pretty much everywhere. Since I'm not getting a return I didn't input my banking direct deposit info so I don't know if I'll get a payment in check form at my address or what, but it might be worth it to your girl to file a quicky return for 2019.

We also had cats, hamsters and rabbits. Rabbits are true escape artists...

Either way, I am human and still healthy so there is that.

    Take care @Riotvan

For twenty minutes, right? That's why the toilet paper demand. It will also probably block the sewers.

    Got any nearby Italian/Spanish/British/American shops?
