I lived in Satan Cruz. Pothead capital of the world. I am also quite familiar with it myself, although I prefer its use with fancy accoutrements. I basically keep away from it now because or lung damage from Valley Fever and also because my job requires me to keep alert. I like the nature of my work too, so even if it gets crazy, I never get too stressed.

Maybe they wanted to get out of work or something? Hell if I know. Won't share any more details because I did say I'd keep names and locations out of it, I only brought it up in this thread to illustrate how there may well be absolute nitwits kicking up panic for no reason.

Also, not many testing kits on my end, and many people can't rightly afford em. Usual recourse is home quarantine. Nowadays in various places only one person per household is allowed to go out to purchase necessities— ID and permit checks and all implemented.

Pics of some of the more... at-risk areas. Some dwellings so cramped it's not physically possible to maintain safe distances:

The way I am thinking about masks is that the social distancing is going to do a ton more then wearing a mask.

I have a bit of stockpile of masks at home since my parents ordered a few hundred a while ago. Not n95 masks, just the simple kind. The masks do help prevent you from spreading it more than it protects you from people with Coronavirus.

Another thing is that you can already have it for 2 weeks and be asymptomatic but be spreading it. I could already have it and be spreading it when I buy groceries so I would at least like to minimize my impact when I do go out.

    Oh man,

Oh man, this has been one of the things bugging me most about this outbreak.

There doesn't seem to be any properly definitive answer to this- you can find loads of expert opinion and proper research that supports whatever view anyone wants to take on it.

People over in HK are utterly convinced that masks are effective, but seem unable to separate mask usage out from all the other factors, i.e. the sudden propensity for people to wash their hands in the bathroom... with actual soap! Or people... not eating hotpot!

On top of this, the reason people here wear masks not personal protection, rather than the more widely accepted idea of protecting others if the wearer is sick. That's why we had over ten thousand people panicking in the early days trying lining up on news that masks were available at one location.

Asian countries got masks because we had relatives all over the world hoovering up supplies to send back home. I was in Japan when it hit China, and there were Chinese people flooding all the pharmacies constantly looking for masks. Back in January, my cousins in the Midwest reported that Home Depot were out of masks because of demand from China and Hong Kong. Mind you though, whilst some of the population here had masks, the government departments ran out of masks- medics in HK had their PPE specs downgraded because of shortages.

It's been depressing watching this from the sidelines. I've been using the same couple masks for 6 weeks as I don't think they do much, don't want to freak people out when I go on public transport, and don't want to be wasting new ones needed elsewhere. Recently I've decided to just say f**k it, and I'm going to wear my woodworking respirator around instead. If I'm going to look like an idiot, I might as well go all out. Thing is though, there's a fair number of people already wearing respirators already, so nobody is going to bat an eye.

California Coronavirus Deaths. The day hasn't ended up. I will update if things change.

The "Elderly" group is exclusive of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s group. Age groups described as 65+ or Elderly without more specific age information was lumped into this category. This distribution is more reflective of SoCal since NorCal does not give up much information.

We don't need sophisticated masks just simple one.
May be as simple as made at home with some Bandana. Forget about protection from droplets and all but one key benefit is protection against our own hand. Atleast it acts as a shield against our infected hand as most of us unconsciously move hand all over our face and these mask comes in way of direct contact.

I realize how much I love touching my face after consciously thinking about it and not trying to.

    Slight itch? Scratch
    Eye booger? Touch eye
    Some sweat? Wipe it off

My sympathies go out all our medical professionals on the front line who might have a slight itch or a bead of sweat and can't do anything about it for hours.

On a more serious note, I noticed how on Thursday we just hit a thousand deaths in usa and today we have hit two thousand. Two days for the deaths to double.

We already have the highest confirmed case count in the world even though we still don't have enough tests. Things look like they are going to get rough these next few weeks.

Only solution to this right now is to stay indoors, maintain social distancing and a complete lockdown. The sooner it is implemented in NY better it is for everyone

I didn't know about that article back when I posted. That said, there were issues with the tests that still continue to this day. Not only that, but it isn't uncommon for viruses to attack more than just the usual area it infects. Mumps, for example, can attack the thyroid and testicles, just because it's a dick.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fo...us-twice-how-does-covid-19-immunity-work/amp/

It can also causes cardiac problems either way:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/27/health/coronavirus-cardiac-heart-attacks.html

There was apparently testing being done in China on young men who might have fertility issues after surviving Corona.

The big issue is the lack of information coming out of China. They've had this virus since late 2019, and all they've given us is suspect numbers. Well, that and saying we made it as a biological weapon.

Are we buying this: no new cases in China and Korea (relatively speaking)?

    Singapore's perspective on mask use:

    https://www.straitstimes.com/singap...ting-deeply-disappointing-and-a-betrayal-says

Granted, this was back in February, but I believe that we are still working with the same mindset. Also, seeing how lots of people in Singapore don't wear their masks properly and are as good as wasting them (like wtf is the use of wearing a mask if you are going to pull it down when you cough), I am inclined to agree with this approach. Also AFAIK, local shops are still out of surgical masks.

That small news headline about the disappearing Chinese doctor in December now makes me wonder, how stupid has humanity become.

Okay, I am a Buddhist for life now. To live is suffer...

@purr1n we've had 2 downward days here already which turned out to be statistical noise in a continuing upward slope, so yeah cats, bags, hatched chickens, and all that.

Very good info on this interview, including the importance of masks. I wear them even when going down to my lobby to pick up food.

Americans are obstinate and won't do that. They will continue on to church, temple, parties, and travel out of state for fun until one of their own parents or grandparents die a lonely death. We already saw the violent reaction Cuomo had to the consideration that NY be quarantined.
