Can someone post some good reviews or conference papers on cutting edge approaches to this?

Obviously the licensed implementations (like Apt-X) are not public, but presumably most of this tech involves some kind of low dimensional representation of a discrete data structure.

    In particular, I'm interested in:
    1) reviews of current approaches addressing bandwidth-constraints. What metrics are used to measure fidelity? Is there a connection between 'musicality' and the actual error. Is fidelity affected more by differences in timing or frequency. Are certain types of music more challenging? How do specific implementations (LDAC, Apt-X, etc) benchmark with respect to these kinds of metrics?

    2) applied papers that address the connections between hearing science and the choice of representation e.g. DFT vs a dynamic topic model (go ahead and laugh, audio isn't my field, lol). Will there be a time when someone like Tyll Herstens can listen to a (properly amped) bluetooth headset and not be able to tell that its wireless?

    3) theoretical papers on how far we could push the envelope in terms of fidelity

    Tyll is retired.

Do you mean that will there be a time where someone here on SBAF can listen to a (properly amped) bluetooth headset and not be able to tell that its wireless?

Or do you mean when someone like Ralf Arnott can listen to a (properly amped) bluetooth headset and not be able to tell that its wireless?

You came to a wrong place. I don't think asking such questions here is a good idea. "Audio science" here is more likely associated with practical benefits (roughly speaking, aims for less irrational spending).

    Here are better alternatives:

    1. Go to Quora or StackExchange.
    2. Look for signal processing or engineering communities/forums. There may be some nice forums named "super best signal engineers". Who knows.
    3. Google your interest keywords/questions at Google Scholar.

Thanks for pointing this out (yes, I watched his farewell / stepvan conversion vid back in 2018). Uhh, sorry to Ralf Arnott (I'm sure you write beautifully) if the omission of your name was presumptuous.

I think the inclusion of his name would have been presumptuous.
