Well, it was either that, or if a user plugs it into their internet, it will start mining Bitcoins...

Can anyone say which of the latest Schitt DACs measures the best out of SE only? I keep reading that BF2 is a little Yiggy, so now especially during COVID money times, I wonder if a BF2 will get me 90% of a Yiggy in terms of SE output only? Using Unison for the input.

The Modius measures the best out of all Schiit DACs. The Yggdrasil, Gungnir, and Bifrost are for dumb people like us who believe that once we hit 75-80db SINAD, it doesn't really mean much anymore.

Hope so I ordered one to do just that! I didn't like the Modi with it so much so will be interesting to see if Modius does better! I suspect it will based on the commentary. Definitely need that balanced amp to go with the modius. A SchitTHX style amp would be pretty awesome, hope they do that.

It exists. It’s called the Magni Heresy aka the “You have ED and allow your wife to have a boyfriend so she doesn’t take half your anime figurines” version.

balanced doesn’t matter for headphones. It’s mostly for active monitors and pro gear. You don’t want to h

No, this is for the factory not users. Schiit uses microsd for firmware updates on devices that support it.

It seems like the best Magni/Modi upgrade "pack" is now Modius and, until the Magnius Maximus Uber is out, the SMSL SP200. I wouldn't normally recommend a SMSL product, but they didn't design it and it is the cheapest of the THX-789 clones.

That is exactly what I have been doing during my agonizing wait for my Bifrost 2 backorder, and honestly, it's really not half bad. Far superior to the USB out on my MacBook, anyway. Will be interested to see how the Unison sounds when I get it.

I have to give a counter - recommendation against the sp200. Even off the Bifrost 2,there is some noticeable lower treble glare that's not present with something like the Magni 3+.

Scratching my head, but why does the SMSL SP200 THX AAA cost $290? That seems rather expensive for a Chi-Fi deal.

According to Marv's impressions.. should I get this dac over Bifrost 2 if I need something like poor man's Convert 2?

Especially in speed and transient department.

What would you recommend then? I want to keep the Gilmore if I can, but I want to get the most out of the Modius. Is there a good, reasonably priced balanced to SE RCA box out there or is it a "you're SOL" kind of deal?

THX789 costs $299, so why bother with a clone?

Actually an unadvertised function is that it's also a fax/modem.

That is true normally but given that the balanced output of the modius is "better" from the sound of things, one would want a balanced amp to take advantage of it.
Its true balanced doesnt normally matter, but in this case it sounds like the XLR outputs of the Modius are significantly better, so one would want an amp that accepts the XLR inputs to take advantage of that. At the moment the only value choices are the THX amps, the Jotunheim or the Geshelli amps. If Schiit were to put out a balanced amp at 299 that beat the THX that would be a huge value paired with the Modius.

Hey I see people are hating on the SP200s knob, I gotta join in, it was really truly utter garbage. DO yourself a favor and just buy the drop one now that its 299 that knob is so much better.

The Sp200s volume pot is one of the dumbest moves I have personally encountered on a amp, putting a linear pot on an amp that freaking powerful is just asking to blow up a driver or someones ears. Especially if you are going to be using XLR inputs with it, IEMs and such will be unusable unless you like them real loud. You cant get the volume pot out of the area where its got channel imbalanced without it being very loud.

Its fine if you have a preamp or insensitive headphones but I wouldnt recommend it personally. I think one of the big attractions of the Drop THX amp is the 3 gain settings allowing you to use it with IEMs as well as plenty of power for most full size headphones. If your just looking to buy one amp that is very appealing. I cant say the same of the SP200 due to that knob and only 2 gain settings.
