Parts are getting easier to source for the kei cars. But still, having to parse through non-English manuals for P/Ns and repair manuals is still a huge PITA. Not to mention turning on the windshield wipers every time you change lanes...

It's just my lowly opinion, but the Miata B6/BP isn't a really awesome motor to begin with. Sure, there's a ton of support for it, but it's a boring motor. If you're wanting to get into wrenching, and if it was my money (and, if i had a shop space), I'd pick up a blown motor NA and K20 swap it. Then start pinching pennies for a 15psi turbo kit and shoot for 250-275 horse, super reliable. That chassis gets kinda stupid with more than 250 horse. I'm just talking out my ass tho, but that'd be a fun build and there's about a million other people that've done K20 swap Miatas, so everything's all figured out.

    @spwath

    Second generation MR2.
Your market missed out on the 3S-GE as the naturally aspirated option.
Instead getting the 5S-FE. A literal Camry engine.
You did however get the turbo option, the 3S-GTE.
The NA cars are easy -but tight- to work on. The turbos are harder but crazy fun.

    Third generation Supra.
The earlier cars had the option of a 7M-GE or a 7M-GTE.
'90 to '93 JDM cars were available with the 1JZ-GTE.
VERY nice suspension setup with double wishbones on all four corners.
7M cars are often looked down on for blowing head gaskets as they were incorrectly torqued from the factory.
They are actually quite strong as long as the factory head bolts are replaced and correctly torqued.
The engine bay is spacious and easy to work in.

Some nice options without pop up lights are Z32 300ZX and Z30 Soarer.
The Z is very tight to work on. The naturally aspirated cars make decent power and are reliable.
Twin turbos can be painful if neglected by previous owners but are otherwise great fun.
The Soarer is the same chassis as the MK4 supra and could be optioned with 1JZ-GTE, 2JZ-GE or 1UZ-FE.
The V8 cars could come with airbag suspension. So watch out if floaty cloud isn't your thing ;)

When did this thread turn into an initial D fanboy circle jerk?

Drive your Impreza hatch and enjoy it. Get a sport bike for fun. You can't ride a motorcycle when you have kids unless you have enough life insurance that their lives will be better without you so do it now.

This. I'm thinking an Outback or a Forester. I'll do the Impreza Hatch if I have to be super cheap for my next car.

@spwath If you can at your age: Turo and drive lots of stuff without being tied to one car. Manual and auto. Polaris to Porsche.

Hey no one is recommending an AE86.

Anyway though, not sure about motorcycles, more dangerous. Plus more things to do to a car.
Yeah MR2 is cool, does seem harder to work on with that mid engine though. But better weight distribution.
Supras are always cool. Kinda expensive, but actually not tooo bad.
That's actually a really good idea. Probably have to be 21, so ill have to wait another 2 months, but then I can.

LOL- I sold my fun car and will either Turo myself or grab a nuevo 86/FRS/BRZ and remove the torque dip, then add turbo later. Or get a Fiesta ST. For manual throwaround fun.

Or, I'll find another garage queen but I am trying not to do that. I want something I will park right next to somebody 5" away because that is the standard Bay Area parking lot design.

You looked at one of these a while ago, right?
I had one, a GTS coupe with the Yamaha twin cam. Compared to today's cars, not much shove, and most of it above 5,000 RPM. There are turbo kits and engine swap possibilities if you have the time.
I know you said no AWD, but one of the most fun cars I ever drove was a blob-eye mid-2000s STI. I'd have bought one but public transportation sucks around here.

If The Road Warrior took place in Japan, Max would have driven a Mitsubishi Starion. It was sold in the States as the Chrysler Conquest. I love this car, hope to own one someday.

Honestly, knowing their dangerous is important. Everyone I know (including @CEE TEE and myself) would never ride again given where we are in life so I can tell you there's a window for most where it's possible. No car compares. The closest I've driven that came remotely close was a turbo elise and even that was a fraction of the fun.

Also, Denver is much lower density than the Bay Area and riding in CO when it's nice out is much better than CA in terms of safety. People are just generally happier/more aware here as well. I'd strongly suggest you get a starter bike and see if you like it. There's a lot you can do to a bike if you decide you like it.

Man it must really be terrible for riders over there, here people ride well into their 60s as a matter of course, and like more than half of drivers use a large moped or cruiser bike to go to work (depending on dress needs, if you need to wear a suit on the way a 250cc moped is just way more convenient).

I guess being constantly surrounded by 20 mopeds at every traffic light makes us more aware of riders?

Not sure if that's a good thing, as traffic lights are pretty stressful thanks to that - they can't stay out of your blinds pots because there's just too many mopeds, so you have to assume there's a teen in your blindspot at all times - but eh, it is what it is.

Spawth - If you're going to be in Hartford after grad, I'd also get a motorcycle - at least for the summer months. And if you choose to do so - buy the safety/protective gear first (and don't skimp). Then with the money you have left buy the bike. If you're going to be somewhere like Southern CA, Bay Area, or some other similar place with too many people and 90% of people driving like idiots - skip the bike.

Going in a completely different direction: Friday i'm gonna check out a 1992 MB W140, 300SE with a shade less than 70k on the clock. White over beige. If the PPI goes well, I might be going fake-rich.

Gotta see if "BNKVLT" plates are available...

yaaaassssss. 37s fit stock height, apparently. 7spd con Manuél with granny first, 4.1:1 diffs and e-lockers f&r (Sasquatch pkg). I'll take the 2.3 party whistle.

Edit: Base 2-door starts at just under $30k. Can't wait to see it with the plastic fender flairs removed (which according to an interview with Ford rep., can be done in "seconds"). Roof and doors all removeable.

Thinking of selling the minivan since we don't need two cars and convincing the wife she should treat herself to a four door Bronco and I'll take the CX-9 when we're no longer stuck at home and need a second car next year.

I found it a handy feature once when I needed to throw up.
