I am in Japan, so I got the first one from Amazon.co.Jp returned it to them, then tried Eearphone. I got one that had the issue from them and exchanged it for one that again had the same problem. The 2nd time they didnt believe me and sent it off to Fostex for 3 weeks who replaced one of the drivers saying it was defective but that they had fixed it. At that point my patience was well exhausted so I just took the refund rather than try it and see if they fixed it.

Probably should have just kept it and seen if it worked, but there was a Audio Technica AD-2000 for sale and I wanted to buy it with the money instead. Of course they sold right before they actually gave me the refund so was just fail all around lol.

I assume Fostex will fix them for you via warranty service they seem to be well aware of the issue.

As a side note I also bought a Dekoni Blue here in Japan which had a massive channel imbalance, so got to say T50RP based stuff leaves much to be desired on the quality control front.

FWIR in the HF thread the two main build issues are creaking and rumbling. The creaking is from where the headband pivot joint attaches to the cups. I dont think the creak is just a T60RP issue because I have it on my T-X0. One user had sucess fixing using teflon spray. The rumble is from the driver when producing very low notes. Several users had luck by opening up the cups and tightening down the screws.

I picked up a used pair after being guaranteed by seller that they were a flawless example which indeed worked out well.

The t60rp is a bright sounding headphone. It actually kind of makes me queazy which is how I felt the first and last time I tried a Beyerdynamic (custom woodied DT880).

The wood cups are very pretty and and its temping to keep them just because of that and having a go with mods but I wouldn’t know where to begin.

Ill try taking some decent photos to share and to use in for sale ad.

Leather (?), angled, little thicker than stock t50rp pad - ear doesnt touch driver like on t50rp.

The deserves official SBAF investigation. Buying this to measure, and then to mod so it doesn't sound messed up, then loaner. I am assuming same driver as T50RP and chalking up differences to cup volume, internals with balanced potential, etc.

I've found thinner pads with narrower openings behave best with the standard enclosure.

Then stock t50rp pads sound like they would work best. After a quick search this is the closest replacement pad I could find.

It would be easy to simulate a thinner pad by smooshing the headphones up against head to compress the pads... Ill report back.

Massdrop T-X0. There were two versions and both were reviewed here.

The stock pads I found pretty uncomfortable with the MK2 series. I currently have mine with an undersized replacement pad meant for the M50x from Dekoni, they are double-taped to the baffle, they look kind of goofy but sound pretty good. Previously I've tested most Brainwavz pads (too tall, elevated highs), the Shure HPAEC840 (hot highs) & HPAEC1540 (not bad), some no name pleather pads. All of them required extra damping on the front to alleviate the highs, the taller, harder ones made the mids lose texture IMO. Today I would try the following:

Any extra-squishy or thinner pad with a narrower entry would seem to fit the bill. Even the ones meant for the Fostex TH series seem to share this common trait.

Also for me (on T50s), the narrow-cavity but thick Dekoni pleather T-series pads weren't a success, muffling the dynamics and throwing the stage back.

If you want to stick with angled pads (better for me for imaging & staging than the flat ones I tried), here's another possibility (CA link because they seem to be out of stock in the US currently; you'd likely find them on Ali or elsewhere though). These are more supple and compressible than the Brainwavz equivalent, and slightly smaller - the only way to get them on is to cut away the skirts and use double sided tape, or - second try, currently in use - cut a slit in from the edge of the skirt to the seam, and stretch like hell while feeding them into the baffle slot (wished I had a trained octopus).

These are less bassy than the Brainwavz pads and because they're a bit more compressible they put your ear a little closer to the drivers. All need some front filtering, eg a couple of layers of TP.

For other mod ideas, have a look at the T50RPMKIII thread and at purr1n's simple mods for the T-X00 v2. Bear in mind these (and my comments above) are all for T50-size shells; the apparently bigger cups of the T60 will likely make any rear-damping changes work differently.

Both reviews praised these headphones. I need to give a re-listen because I found them unbearably bright.

Edit re-listen: Cymbals are too sizzly which I find very annoying. Reminds me of 400i.

However, I did the squished pads test to simulate thinner pads. Doing this did better align the highs / thicken the bass n mids. I think these could be great with thinner pads. Going to order a set or two to try and compare to T-X0 with same pads.

Edit: purr1n’s tx0 thread: looks like tp mod will correct treble problem area. And searching th-x00, d5000, etc. pads on amazon there a lot of cheap n thin with narrow ear entry options.

Yeah, when everything else fails I resort to the usual TP mods, too.

The most objectionable thing to me with the T60 rp was a peak in the 10k region, it isn't on all of the FR graphs but it was very real when you did a frequency sweep. I think I eqed it down by 3-4db and that made it less murdery with cymbals. Might try that if it is causing you headaches.

@Philimon Yeah, they are definitely on the brighter side with stock pads. Which is why use and highly recommend alpha pads.

@Raimei Templar My FR graph picked up that peak between 8k to 10k but pad swap really helps. Gets your ears a little further away and helps raise the bass.
