I recently built a balanced (XLR) to single ended (RCA) converter using Cinemag CMLI15/15B2 transformers per the thread linked below.

    https://www.superbestaudiofriends.o...le-ended-converter-xlr-to-rca-bal-to-se.9506/

I thought it might be helpful to have people try them out (it's pretty good) and I'm also including a Jensen ISO-MAX (4:1) for comparison.

    Loaner Contents:

DIY XLR to RCA converter box using Cinemag CMLI15/15B2 transformers
    Jensen ISO-MAX Model: PC-2Xr (4:1)

    Loaner Rules:

    • 8 participants max
    • Contributors and non friends will be considered on a case by case basis.
    • Continental US only
    • loan period is 6 days beginning on day of receipt. Please ship on the 7th day.
    • ship using FedEx or UPS and send tracking information to the next person on the list
    • please take pictures of the two transformer boxes before shipping out.
    • This is a DIY product and it works and should be safe, but I am not responsible in any way if anything happens to your gear

If there isn't enough interest I will ask to close the thread and handle the tour privately. The transformers are currently with @skem. He's on the east coast so please provide the state you live in and we'll organize the tour starting on the east coast and moving west.

    3. @rtaylor76
    4. @crenca

I hooked these up to my system and they totally welded themselves to my gear. I guess I can't send them on. Thanks anyway.

    Impressions posted here!

Would like to participate. I'm in New Mexico. I currently utilize the Jenson PI-2XR (1:1) so I will have a three way ;)

@Melvillian Put me at the end since we're somewhat nearby, unless someone closer to you wants to check it.

Total cost is around $400. Not sure if it needs to be insured, I’ll leave that up to you guys.

edit** we can skip insurance. I’m ok with that.

Btw there are two more slots available.

    I'd like to join,

I can also add a Jensen 1:1 into the mix for others to hear as I'm not using the one I bought at all really

Not sure if this still applies to you, maybe one of the staff members can chime in before letting you get in on the loaner tour?

Just tryina look out for SBAF with the recent missing loaner incident w/ @IUONA

Did you ever ask why I got that tag? Not because I stole something... I'm worried that some of you seem to have forgotten that. Shouldn't really matter now tho the culture here has changed since then, still I appreciate your looking out.

Anyways, I'm less concerned with hearing anything from here and more concerned with why are we even touring the 4:1? I think most agree'd it was sub-optimal but here we are beating the dead horse that is how poorly the 4:1 performs again'st DIY options... seems impressions of the DIY 1:1 would have more weight and relevance if they were at least compared to a commercially available 1:1

So since I have a 1:1 that's not getting use I figured I'd offer it up to be part of this existing tour. Assuming I can at least hear the DIY. That way if some how my 1:1 goes missing at least I'd have gotten to hear a worthwhile DIY!

hey man, I'm not accusing you of anything or trying to start drama, I'm just trying to look out for friends who are generously loaning us with their gear. With the recent situation, it seems sometimes even people with the friend tags can take advantage of the trust/honor system we have here. I'm still relatively new compared to other veterans in this community so I have no idea when/how/why your account was banned or received that tag (which is why I suggested maybe get a staff member's approval before proceeding as a precautionary measure)

Hope you know I meant no ill intent!

Oh yea of course I expect the tour organizer would reach out to my(self) and an admin if they wished to include me! I took no ill intent, again thank you for your concern! I too was sadden to see a friend ran off with something.

An if no one here is comfortable well that's ok too! I'll likely wind up selling my 1:1 on eBay or something to get funds for something DIY'd. Before I go that route tho I'd be nice to get some time listening and give others a chance to listen too! That's certainly the more fun option imo

Update: As I told @Melvillian last week the Cinemag box arrived at my place with one of the transformers floating around in the box as the screw was "stripped" and no longer able to hold the transformer onto its internal mounting bracket. I overestimated my ability to source a 1/8 inch #6 metal screw locally, so I have taken up his offer to keep it a little longer than 7 days. Today I have improvised a 1/4 inch screw using several washers so that it seats proper depth in the transformer. I am 92.581% confident this should hold through shipping for the rest of the tour. @tommytakis, I will be shipping it out to you today or tomorrow.

Question: What thread are we using to post impressions? I know @rtaylor76 posted his somewhere...

If it's not too late, I'd love to get in on the end of train. I'm in NYC.

Dang! That means my fixes did not work. I had a lock washer and everything. Cinemag's mounts are realy not that sufficient unless surrounded by other stuff. Even some hot glue at the bottom on either side should keep them in place, but I agree with the pause. I felt safe shipping it, but obviously the hardware is going to do what it wants.

I posted my thoughts in the link in the first message in this thread.

Thanks at @crenca and @rtaylor76 for fixing my DIY masterpiece. I really didn’t mean for this to be a bother for any of the tour participants.

@Boops ill send it to you when I get it back. I’ll put you at the very end of the tour.

@insidious meme when you’re done please return it to me and I’ll send it to @Boops.
