It’s not class D. It’s probably class G/H, which means it’s still class AB output stage. Just the power supply is a switcher and does power rail switching or voltage adjustments depending upon the demand from the output.

Jason said recently on headfi that class D was dead for them and they’ve moved on to other efficient topologies - wondering if they’re going to go the G/H route as well.

That's my understanding. DSP off means a bypass. With it on, then ADC-DSP-DAC.

On my QSC amps I think all the volume control is digital so it goes through the ADC regardless.

Honestly, this sounds better than Hypex Ncore amps and some Class AB Amps(Emotiva A150). Even if the signal is going through an ADC, this amp just make me want to listen to it. It is very transparent.

Edit: On that note, can someone please point me towards some good spades for this?

Yelp! My CDi1000 died today. Switched it off yesterday and it won't turn back on. Considering getting another one just because how good it sounded. Also looking at Aegir Monoblocks or going straight for a Rogue Audio Atlas Magnum III

I think those have fuses, you might want to check. They have a lot of self-protection in these amps, so it is hard to blow up amps anymore. Usually the fans die way before the amp does. But, bad power supplies are known to happen.

Aegir and Atlas Magnum III....talk about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. What are you powering?

Google the power cap issue for these amps. When I was contemplating getting one, I was tempted to get one that didn't turn on, as apparently one of the caps on the power supply tended to blow up. If you take the lid off you should be able to tell if it would be potentially an easy fix.

Lemme check the fuse. I am thinking the Power Button is the problem as it was acting up.

Anyways, I have a pair of LS50 right now with a pair of Raidho XT1 coming in this weekend. Sucks my amp went off at such a time. Might give me an excuse to upgrade.

Alright I checked, Caps and Fuse look fine. I am almost certain it's the Power Button as that was acting up.

With Aegir monos?? Unless you listen very close and quietly, I don’t think so.

I do actually. I will be using the Raidhos as nearfield monitors. Would also love to consider other alternatives if you have some.

Well if you do sit nearfield and low volume, they could work. However, dynamics may be an issue - could sound soft and not very lively esp on the bottom end. Might depend on the preamp a bit, but Aegir is known to be a bit low on impact, and with low sensitivity speakers at low volumes, may be boring and sound underpowered. Believe @Inoculator experienced this with a single Aegir and LS3/5a. I’ve never heard the Raidhos, but the LS50s for me at least need some slam from the amp to be involving. But if dynamic bass is not high on your priority list, the mids and treble could be great with em.

I do have a couple of Rel T5i to help with the bass but I think I still prefer a tight bass. I am currently looking to just get another one of these. This amp just ticked everything for me.

If you read @purr1n review of these in the first page he outlines the sound diff with Aegir, so that should give you a very good idea of what to expect the differences are.

Alright I decided to just get another one of these from eBay. This is pretty much my benchmark on what a good amp should sound like and would need one for comparing any future amps I buy.

I might send my old dead one for repair to have a spare or if anyone wants a very cheap for parts CDI1000 then PM me pls.

Any stereo repair shop should be able to fix that. It's a common issue on this generation. Local repair shop (http://www.abellaudioinc.com/) was $92 out the door for mine. Mine would still turn on but it was taking an increasingly longer time to do so (like 20 min), so when I had the system down for some rearranging, I dropped it off to be fixed before it died when I needed it. If you haven't tried leaving yours switched on for an extended period, try that first, it may just be "slow".

Has anyone tried this amp with Hifiman He6se v2? Wondering if it'll be too powerful.
