You mean the assorted-resonance generators! :D

But hey, you got the speakers at the right hight, and I'm sure you'll get effective stands under them too in the near future.

Thanks for the bigger-is-not-necessarily-better demo. Hope you'll also soon have space where those monsters can sound good.

    Happy listening!

I'm taking a bit of a risk commissioning someone to make this Troels design for me without having heard it before, but my Focal Utopias had me wondering how much better I can do with 2-channel. On paper, it sounds like what I want. It's 96dB efficient, has 15" bass woofers, 8" mids, and a Beryllium tweeter. I'll update what I hear once they're done and in my space. I'm pretty excited!

@AdvanTech I have had my eye on building a pair of those speakers sometime in the next year or two, would be very curious to hear more about what you end up pairing them with system wise and your impressions of them in the future once you get them up and running!

Yep, it's going to be interesting trying to dial them in with upstream components.

I'm hoping they might pair well with Aegir/Aegir Mono's or perhaps biamping the mids/highs with a SET and woofers with Vidar or Aegir.

Anyway, I'm jealous! Hoping to build a pair sometime this year. Will be watching out for your impressions.

I'm too OCD for tubes, hence the DSHA3F + Utopia chain (that I am super happy with). I'm hoping Aegir x1 or x2 might do it. Or maybe Aegir x1 and Vidar x1 since it's ready for bi-amping.

I spent the last 2 days measuring, drilling, measuring, cutting, fishing wire, and mounting speakers. It was a ton of work but it is totally worth it.

My rear speakers are now actually in the rear. Before the right channel was slightly in front of me and the left was just behind the couch.

If anyone has ever run wiring in existing walls I'm sure you will know how much of a pain this was.

New speakers arrived last Wednesday. Wasn't really in the market but sometimes the right one comes along at the right price and in the right situation, and I jumped on it.

From Dynaudio Focus 260 to Dynaudio Confidence C2 Platinum

Room used to fire down the short wall but because of the C2s needing more room to breathe, I turned it back around firing down the long wall. I used to have it this way but my MLP was imperfect because the entry door swung into the room. Now it swings out (that was fun, I did not miss my calling hanging doors) and I can finally situate everything the right way in this orientation. The big issue is there's a bass null around the MLP but if I sit right in the center and just beyond equilateral, it's perfect. So that's what I do.

Room is also plumbed for a 5.4.1 theater. It's a nice place to escape to.

    Got it all fixed up.

These are a much better fit for the living room. Image is spot on and the stage is pretty wide.

For a cheap bookshelf, the low end is phenomenal. I do plan to add a pair of Martin Logan Dynamo 700's once I do my reading on how to set them up properly.

    Rug shopping too.

Never seen subs behind speakers like that.

    How does it sound?

They sound good but I am still working on dialing them in. I just picked up two Auralex Subdude II subwoofer to try and tighten it up a bit. I don't have many options in where to put them due to limited space. Linn recommends keeping them close to the front speakers. Also, here is REL's recommendation for 2 channel listening:

    Unit Placement
    FIG 1A:
Because RELs are engineered to produce foundational low bass, it is beneficial to place pairs into front structural corners, immediately behind the main front speakers. Turned inward toward the center of the room to a position that points directly or almost directly at the prime listening location.

    FIG 1B:
FFor stereo pairs, this basic approach of corner placement may work well. However, for larger RELs, especially in small or medium rooms, it may work best to place the subwoofers in close proximity to the main speakers, just behind and to the outside of main speakers. Doing so ensures that these larger RELs and the main speakers act like a single unified whole, and with 2 large RELs there is almost certain to be sufficient output, making corner placement unnecessary.

I finally got the Troels 3WC-15 in my space. I'm going to hold off on detailed impressions for at least a week for my ears, amps, speakers to break in, but I'm relieved to know that it's pretty much to what I was hoping for and that my tiny room can handle big speakers and woofers just fine. Bass response with these is even more even than my old bookshelves.

Converted my Hypex uCD-based bass amp into a permanently heated cat bed and came up with a solution for the bass bins. Before each of the tops ran 100W for the HF1440 compression driver and 2x250W for 15WU quartets. Decided to leave a single 250W module for the midwoofs and route a Speakon wire out from the plate to the SB34NRX75-6 duo wired for 3 Ohm load. I was kinda concerned to lose roughly 6dB of output, but I was way off base as the midwoofer array impedance went down from 8 Ohms to 4 Ohms, so delivered power won't change. The amps will have to sweat a little bit more, but the sub-bass bins will take care of the lows where the brunt of power needs to be used.

As it is now, the system LF extension went down from 30Hz to 19Hz. That's roughly a half-octave extra. Crossover design as follows - 1st order slopes for the HF and midwoofer array at 1kHz and roughly 2nd order slopes at 80Hz for the sub-bass bin. Both speakers digitally compensated for boundary gain and LF discrepancies.

As I'm a glorified marketing guy, I had to get an actual trained acoustician to do the whole process. Most of the tuning was done by putting a measurement mic in the listening position and using SMAART to get RTA from pink noise. He would occasionally move the mic around to check if the tuning works okay around the sweetspot as well.

There were a few eye openers for me during the process:
    1. Driver to driver and speaker to room integration is always checked in frequency and time domain simultaneously. An acceptable result subjectively could be attained ONLY if BOTH measured okay.
    2. Due to asymmetrical room loading filtering for both speakers was VERY different, to achieve a VERY similar measured and heard sound in the sweetspot. To me this gave another meaning to the room-speaker interface.
    3. During the LF tuning process we checked out many revisions with a well-recorded drum track. What I heard were at least three drastically different rendition of the kick-drum, yet the AFR would be pretty much the same. Different integration with the room and the MF portion would greatly change bass reproduction. Subjective effects like smearing, transient delineation and even bass quantity would change.
In the end I'm extremely happy with the result. As I've alluded previously - the speaker is able to totally change the presentation, depending on the recording. Despite previously having a respectable LF response to 30Hz, the extra help down low has changed the scale of things massively. Apparent sound sources have grown in size, bass instruments and electronic bass has bottomless extension which fades out naturally as recorded.

Added a plant to help harmonize the good sound energy and remove the bad sound energy. Or just to look nice in the corner, it was no audiophile plant. No creepy dungeon for me.

0228211434_HDR.jpg 0228211433_HDR.jpg 0228211442_HDR.jpg 0228211433.jpg My acoustic hell 11'X11'X8' office which is the only room in the house I can completely control. I will be bass-trapping and otherwise proofing it throughout 2021.

Edit: Emerald Physics 3.4 about 2.5' off the corner and Harbeth P3ESR about 3' from the front wall. Very different experiences based on what I want to hear. Dynamic stuff goes on the EP 3.4 w/ Rythmik F12G subwoofer and lower key stuff goes to the Harbeth.

Sources are a Yamaha CD player my dad gave me for free that didn't work that I fixed and an Allo DigiOne into a Schiit Gugnir A2.

Amplifiers ChiFi Reisong A10 and Musical Paradise MK3 w/ EL84's via the Yellow Jackets. The Reisong are EL34s. The EP 3.4 are 97 db sensitive and the Harbeth are easy to drive so no worries in a near-field setup. Not pictured are my JOB integrated, Sansui AU-717 and balanced pair Pass Amp Camp amps because a) the JOB is in the living room b) the Sansui is blown out and at the shop and c) I haven't built the amp-camps yet but hope to soon.

I have DIRAC via the MiniDSP SHD but it's not a big deal compared to how shit the room is.

Edit 2: Living Room all-analog setup - Pioneer PLX-1000 >> AT95SSA on LP Gear Headshell >>iFI ZPhono>>JOB Integrated>>Zu Dirty Weekend II that I did the tweeter/capacitor upgrade on. They sound great as I listen to them cooking with my back turned. I'm not a huge fan if I listen to them 'seriously' but for my purposes they're perfect at this point. Thinking about upgrading to Klipsch Forte III in the living room for more FUN.

Well, new subwoofer day for me. Funk Audio 18.0SE. I'd apply for the BWC but I'm not sure if it counts as its a sub not my main speakers, haha. @purr1n I haven't even dialled in the settings yet and its amazing.
