That looks gorgeous. Not available locally, closest location that carries it ... Jacksonville. Doh. Irony is not lost on me.

Anbechs is a great brewery that is run by monks. I don't always get their stuff since I need to be in the mood to drink that Brock Dunkel that you are drinking ATM. Thankfully in FL Total Wine at least stock them.

50/50 me thinks. Their Doppelbock -Weizen is solid, but they aren't made by monks and they are one of the big breweries in Germany.

I just had a big meal, time for another dunkel:

I should really be like @shotgunshane since he is trying out some of the stuff that I recommended and get some Belgian Ales. St. Bernardus stuff is good but the higher alcohol volume beers aren't always my thing. Fun fact: St. Bernardus isn't a truly trappist beer. Also there is the issue on the glasses, which this is the closest thing I have that could work:

I like to use my Rastal Teku glasses with just about everything. I own a couple of those, a few Belgian glasses and a few pint glasses. Funny thing- I used to have a beer glass collection of about 200. Got rid of them when I moved to FL.

You might laugh why have a Hefe at 9:30 AM in the morning, it is due to flavor matching. I love Hefeweizens since they are on the lighter flavor profile side with its wheat flavor. It also goes super well for stronger flavors on the side like meats (bacon and eggs that I had this morning). I found bacon/eggs to have a strong flavor profile, so the hefe balance out both items.

This also make sense, Germans are known to have beers before the afternoon not to get drunk but for flavor matching.

When I was in Switzerland this was totally normal. You'd go out into the town square any day of the week (even Sunday!) and grab a Weissbier mit Weiss' Braut and that's breakfast. The only question was, "Mitt Brodt, oder ohne Brodt?" Nobody gave a shit if you were drinking beer at 7:30am.

@YMO is 3 for 3. So far though, the Andechs has been my favorite.

    NICE.

Their Eisbock has this sweetish cocoish taste that is kind of on the thickish side. Just smelling it you can tell there's more alcohol than normal. Do you get something similar on your end @shotgunshane?

Just saw this post. Yep, different culture norms. I'm always shocked that some Hefe brews work pretty well to balance out some strong/bold foods.
