Will the display and rotary introduce noise?

Sorry, that was a bit rude! The OLED screen has a built in oscillator, but it is very low power and encased metal. So very little noise is generated and none can escape. The rotary is just a pair of switches that turn on and off as you rotate the dual.

The rotary does have a mechanical detent so you feel it as you rotate. I suppose it is possible it may make s soft mechanical clicking sound, but it would be pretty hard to hear it. And it would not be audible in the audio stream.

I'm sorry, did I miss something? How did we go from this:
    To this:

I thought there wasn't going to be a display.

My primary concern with a red only product is that it may be devisive. You may have people that will not buy it simply based on color.

And on the off chance that they do happen to have... say... a Phonitor XE in red, then it certainly won't match. Hell, there are people that complain that the Bitfrost 2 silver finish doesn't match the Jot2 silver finish...

As a marketing personguy, my advice would be to either stick to Ford Model-T colors or go wilder than red. @tomchr can probably give an insight into what people like color-wise.

Btw, I absolutely loved the subtle minty green finish on the @soekris dac1541.

LOL, and my thought was the complete opposite. But since that was the top/sides of the unit, it didn't bother me all that much

Does it make me a bad person to say that I totally hope someone refuses to buy my "audio" streaming product because of the color? It would really make my day!

Given your >> 1 demand/supply ratio, you do need some way to control demand after all :D

    So true!

But, 250 units underway so my demand/supply radio should improve greatly.

My ultimate goal is to switch everyone to the mercury before I run out of PI2AES's. :D

Any thoughts on an upgrade program for existing Pi2AES owners?

Absolutely. And there will be a significant discount for sbaf members as well, though not to be combined with any other upgrade allowance. And we're not talking hundreds of dollars but certainly something reasonable. It's all TBD.

Yes... send your existing Pi2AES to me. Buy a new Mercury from Michael. You have now completed the upgrade process.

Just change something minor in the upcoming Pi2AES boards and get the rumor mill turning that the sound has changed. We will be able to sell our hats and buy Mercury DDC's with ease!

So excited to hear about the evolution of your products Michael! I will be buying it either way, but, I will add to the peanut gallery that is concerned about red. I realize it is irrational...but I hate the color red, at least for my gear. Just means it would sit at the back of my rack though like my Pi2AES does though, so no big deal!

Let's see how the next few weeks go. I should have the first protos in my hands by the end of this week, but the contract manufacturer we chose is in France. The main reason is so that we would be able to do order fulfillment for EU customers from their facility. The downside is the are a little bit slower, because well, they're french! I'm trying not to be mean spirited, but they definitely move slower than we do here in the US. ;)

They are a great shop and they will produce an outstanding product. It will give us the ability to produce here in the US and in the EU.

Have you thought of teaming up with Schiit to do a visually/size compatible model with their Bifrost 2 footprint, and use their contract suppliers? Many Schiit users keep pestering Schiit about doing a streamer, Schiit does not want to get into that business, but Mercury is a perfect complement to their DACs and integrated amps. Just my $.02.
