Inflation! I ‘member buying a pair of these for $100 shipped each. Or maybe it was $80per, and the 15” versions were $100 per. I upgraded to the 15s later but I did not like them better. May have been the speakers paired or room. The pair of 12s (L+R) were used with Behringer/clone studio monitors (8” woofer) and sounded great as a whole. The pair of 15s (L+R) were used with Behringer PA speakers (15” woofers and compression horns). The 15 subs sounded a bit boomy and the plate amps were noisy (they were ab instead of d like in 12”). I checked for ground loop issue but the amps just hissed in the 15. The monitors sounded better for music. I tried the PA speakers for home theater but did not like them better for music. I tried multiple placements and crossover points with the 15s but could never get to sound as tight as 12” sub. Much variables... fyi tge speakers were crossed over - not run full range.

I took measurements with minidsp mic for these setups but are on an old hard drive somewhere. All in-room though so not so helpful for anyone else.

As coincidence would have it I was on a tech support call with PE for my sub today. Music was taking about 1.5 minutes to come through my system. No, it was not auto on but rather my aging Bel Canto amp which feeds the sub via speaker inputs. So the Sub seems to be fine. Using a Dayton amp in the interim which is actually pretty decent.

@AllanMarcus What did you think of the SB-1000 from SVS? I find mine to be a very musical sub that is easy to integrate. Seems to fit seamlessly with my Evoke 10 speakers in my odd 12x16 room. Glad @bixby found something that works for him.

I ended up getting a used Cambridge 301, which isn’t bad. I got a good price.

my bucket sub is curing (the cement base). I should be done making it by this weekend. I will use the plate amp from an old def tech pro 60 and see how that goes.

I know this thread is about the Dayton sub, but I spoke about it earlier. Here's my final bucket sub build, and my blog post about how I made it. This is a passive sub (speaker wire connections are on the other side from this angle of the picture). I have a crown XLS1000 on the way to power it.
