Yep, typical for a 2.5 plug in a 2.1 socket: ok or bad depending on atmospheric pressure, the tide, solar flares, somebody farting... :)

    Hi all / @Michael Kelly,
Noob here. How do I use my Shanti LPS with pi2aes + rpi4. Using Meanwell smps triggers my ocd.
    Thanks in advance!

Shanti is 5v out from both outputs if I’m not mistaken. That can power the RPi on its own, but not the Pi2AES board. Recommended for Pi2AES board is a 24v supply, but minimum I think is ~15v. Some have used 19v supplies with no issues. Apparently some have even tried/used 5v supplies on the Pi2AES board, but this may not work, and could likely cause damage over time. You’ll need to find a higher voltage supply if you want to replace the stock supply.

@GoldenOne has a workaround for powering pi2aes with 5v. Waiting for him to share the pinouts. Total power draw is only 1w as per the h/w design doc.

According to Michael previously, 15v and up should work. How many amps? Is it just for the Pi2AES board (RPi will be powered seperately?)

    18v 50VA that's approx. 2.5A
Do I still need to power RPi separately?

No that should be good. However you may or may not notice a slight improvement with the Shanti on the Pi, if you care about that kind of thing. Start with the 18v supply and then give the Shanti a try later on if you like (may be no difference).

Noted. Let me get back with the subjective findings. May take some time though.

What the hell does it mean if bubbleupnp is suddenly giving me a “504 Gateway Time Out” message on a white background when trying to play muduc from tidal? I can play music from Qobuz fine so the usual problems don’t seem to be the culprit. I restarted the pi2aes and restarted the Samsung S10e twice. Same thing. It was playing fine a second ago.

Does music play directly on the Tidal app (without BubbleUPnP)?

I was in the middle of my listening session when this happened to me too. back up and running now. (I'm playing Tidal through Roon)

This is actually happened to me several times now. Which is why i switched from RoPieee to Moode and am starting to build my local music (FLAC) library back up again, as much of a pain it is, at least when Tidal / Roon goes down yet again i can play music still. Pretty upsetting that i pay like $40 for tidal + Roon a month and it feels like goes down like at least once a month. Starting to think i should just cancel it all and use that $$ to buy albums and play locally lol

Yes I thought to check that too. On my iPod touch (a different device) it plays fine. On the Samsung S10e in bubbleupnp when I tap Tidal the screen immediately goes white. I think it’s wanting me to sign into my Tidal account but unable to connect for some reason.

itts so weird when the pi2aes system stops working because it was always fine a second ago. Then it just stops working. Usually restarting the phone or pi2aes and phone fixes everything though.

it can’t be Tidal because it plays fine on my iPod touch. I’ve never had Tidal go down on me. I bet your problem is actually something else.

Hmmm I just tried again and I was right the white screen and error were replaced by a request to login to Tidal. I have no idea why in the middle of an album it decided I needed to login again. But it seems to be fine. Sorry for the screams for help. I got nothing to do but listen to music right now!

actually i'm 100% sure its tidal lol. but in the manner of their API & connections to other services. Tidal itself plays fine nearly all the time. (i had checked tidal by itself when this happened too) But with roon and other services it seems to break once in a while. I've been diggin into other forums including roon's forum. seem to be a reoccuring issue with Tidal breaking their endpoints all the time with 3rd party services.

I know how you feel though lol, its super frustrating. Heads up, it may happen again. I'd recommend having at least some contigency music that you can still play off locally otherwise u'd have all this gear and no music to listen to.

A contingency is to play directly on the Tidal app (on Apple device) and AirPlay it to the Pi2AES, bypassing the account login needed by Roon and BubbleUPnP.

When I got tired of that, my contingency was to drop Tidal and go to Qobuz (not the only reason I switched, but it did play a part in the decision)

I gotta update an iPod with offline music in the tidal app. That’s the true contingency plan. Along with a few fully charged lightning cable chargers and some good headphones that are easy to drive.
