So what impedances do you have at your disposal now? Did you have to drill out the holes to fit the resistors with a higher power rating like that guy did?

I used the same exact resistors and method as bhk1004 did above. And yes, the board has to be carefully drilled.

Love reading all the fun you are having with the amp! It really is fantastic. Glad you were able to lower the headphone OI. Really think it increases the flexibility of the headphone tap on this amp.

Thanks a bunch for doing the legwork! I've got LCD2C showing up later this week, so I'll play with impedance settings and see what works best. ("Best" being a relative term; still need to get some more time burning in the VH coupling caps, they're still all over the map.)

My cutf caps took like 400-500 hours to really settle down... I didn't believe it when I had read they need 400+ online. I just left it on for 3 weeks straight.

Let us know how the lcd2c does!

Just wondering anyone compare the stock potentiometer with the TDK 2cp601 upgrade? I am kind on the fence of getting the TDK 2cp601, but then I was also looking into the EIZZ step attenutator.

I just received my TU-8600 last Sunday and in the process of putting it together.

I also upgraded the TU-8200DX with Lundahl transformer and Mundorf Caps 3 weeks ago before ordering the TU-8600. The new parts does bring the DX-8200DX to another level. It is worth the upgrade. Will see how it compares with the TU-8600 next week.

Has anyone here had a chance to listen to the 8600s and EC Studio B/Jr and can offer their impressions on how the two compare.

Looks like another possibly interesting set of caps have popped onto the market:

    Jupiter Comet Silver Foil 600V

    Jupiter VitaminQ Silver Foil 600V

Does anybody know what are the akshuall differences between the two? I remember reading somewhere that the VitaminQ is a specific type of oil or whale jizz, or unicorn snot? Maybe I'll ask for a pair of 'em for Christmas.

I didn't think there was a such thing as a pretty capacitor but that retro style labeling is killer.

Go with the upgraded potentiometer. There was a very telling difference when I upgrade from the stock to the better TDK pot. There will still be channel imbalances (unless you decide to wire a stepped attenuator) when it comes to both but there is noticeable step up in clarity.

There are key differences when it comes to immediacy, attack, and sound stage width/depth. The Elekit leans more towards solid states when it comes to speed and attack. It's faster and imo has better PRaT than the EC. The EC Studio Jr has huge stage depth and instruments have more of a 3D effect. Also, the EC Studio Jr is ready and wired for any headphone while the Elekit needs to be moderately modified (drilling into the board) to get the impedance low enough for planars/lower impedance headphones.
