    What is this blasphemy?! ;)

I think you would have to change the output from MoOde/Volumio or whatever player software you're using. Even then I have no idea if it would work, not sure if those players work as a USB transport. Worth trying but you'll be unable to play both DACs at once.

Ok, thanks to some helpful peeps it's working.

    I2S device set to "none"

In MPD Config set output device to USB,
    Set mixer type to "fixed".

    This was using Moode.

I'm using Volumio with an usb drive connected and it works great, the problem is everytime I disconect or turn the pi off the list is gone and it's back to hours of syncing the music.

Isn't there away to have the metadata/library persisted even after an turn off, just like foobar?

Wait, you mean my two PI2AESes were assembled in Taiwan, shipped to the US, then shipped back to me in Taiwan? Next time I'll pick it up directly at the factory!

Um ... The PI2AES doesn't have any USB ports ...? I assume you mean the rPi.

That’s not completely crazy. Maybe in a post Covid world, otherwise I’m not sure the assembly house we use would be thrilled to have people drooping through.

Thank you to purr1n, Michael and the members of this, a newbie to this was successful in assembling the PI2AE and up and running with Volumio (Tidal, spotify and Quobuz) without any difficulties. Thanks again

Found this old thread with many people reporting the same. Strange that after all this time still was not fixed.. you guys don't have this problem everytime you restart the pi?

I didn't answer because I am using a network share instead of a USB drive. I find that easier to add music. Granted that is a bit quirky too in terms of not always syncing with changes. I was using both Volumio and MoOde but have switched to Ropiee, I got too fed up with UPNP. I will still use Volumio for my work Pi assuming an office happens again.

If you don't have to restart Volumio/MoOde regularly to keep the damn thing working (either as an UPnP endpoint or just in general), then I am jealous of the magical version you have installed. :D I have not been so lucky.

After trying Roon for 30 days I am a convert. SO MUCH BETTER than the clusterfuck that is UPnP. Every option I tried was quirky at best. Roon simply works. All the time. I realize a month is short, but even during this timeframe, Roon is way more reliable than Audirvana/BubbleUPnP/mConnect. Even without UPnP, using Qubuz from Volumio is less reliable than using it from Roon and I can actually sort properly in Roon.

So I retract all my prior recommendations for Audirvana, BubbleUPnP, and mConnect. Sucks that Roon is expensive but if you hate crap software/protocols like I do, the extra money is worth it.

    ^ this.

Roon is in fact cheaper because I don't have to spend hours f'ing with crap and dealing with a craptastic interface.

Now all roon has to do is make remote use possible (so I can listen to my home roon setup from the office). My office is the only reason I use Moode/uPNP, which I would drop in a second if I could hit my home from the office.

I'd think it can be done with a VPN? But perhaps RAAT doesn't like that. The bigger issue would be trying to do that on a work computer/the work network. Depends on the size of your org and how friendly you are with the IT guy.

    EDIT: https://community.roonlabs.com/t/i-figured-out-an-easy-way-to-access-roon-over-vpn/112699

If you search Room VPN or similar, you'll find many other threads.

I have multiple stuff connected to the extension and I like to turn off everything every night.

But.. even if I didn't, just a small power short or an error needing restart and I would need several hours to sync before I could listen to some music..

People on the linked thread report the same problem with a drive on the network.

^this. I can't run a VPN at the office, and I'm very friendly with the IT guy. I can hit my synology NAS at home and play music, but roon and quickconnect don't work together

Can you get around IT if you run a virtual machine that opens a VPN?

Apologies if this has already been answered but how much current does the Pi2AES need at 24V if I'm independently powering the Raspberry Pi itself? I've been itching for a DIY project and settled on an AMB sigma11 power supply. I'm pretty sure that since the stock configuration can power headamps, it'll be fine for the Pi2AES but I wanted to be sure before ordering the trafo.

The HAT draws very low current. I'm powering both the Pi2AES and Pi from a single 24V 0.5A supply.
