A British duo. This is their sophomore album and I absolutely love it. It’s got an uplifting, energizing sound to it like early Arcade Fire but it’s more genre bending incorporating elements of electronic and soul into rock. Slight 80’s vibe. And it isn’t happy crap by any means. Well grounded in a level of real sadness similar to Arcade Fire. But uplifting in overall tone. Beautiful sound quality.

Finally circled back to this and really enjoyed it. The album cover perfectly captures the vibe. "Caught on the Inside" was a standout track for me. I want to see the movie that would have this song playing over the end credits."Can't Take You With Me" is great too.

Say Sue Me - Where We Were Together

A Japanese surf rock band that is so much more then surf rock. (Lyrics are in English). One of my favorite bands. Great surf rock style music with excellent riffs and song writing. What really sets them apart though is the vocalist and their lyrics. They say they found the vocalist at a cafe. They heard her talking and immediately wanted her to sing in their band. So her talking voice must be as unique as her singing voice which is like nothing you’ve ever heard.

Their lyrics are all about dysfunctional city life - boring jobs, self deprecating songs about being boring, a song about beating up a girl if she cheated on her husband/boyfriend that’s super violent in an intentionally funny but subtle way. They manage to speak to real, serious issues in society in a playful, light hearted, often humorous way.

here’s one bit of a song:

“I should go to bed early to go to work tomorrow
And I drink a lot on weekends to forget about work
I’m excited that today is Saturday
I’m just satisfied that I need to go to work today

    When I quit this job
I’ll never get a new job
    When I quit this job
I’ll never get a new job
Don’t say to me "get a job"’

    excellent sound quality

mood is chill and uplifting but not overly so. a bit of The National style darkness.

It’s hard to pick an album all their albums are great.

Say Sue Me... been listening all afternoon - thank you! They kind of have a Cranberries meet the Safaris vibe going on...

    Glad you like them!

I have to say this is my favorite song by them. On the album “Big Summer Night”. The lyrics and the way she delivers them is just so awesome.

    “Are you sleeping
Are you sleeping with my boyfriend
If I’m right just gonna kill kill kill
    Motherfucker kill you and him
    Kill your parents, brothers, sister
    Animals, broken glass, and doors
    Never forever do you understand
    I will keep this promise
    I will keep this promise
    I will keep this promise
    I will keep this promise”

    75 Dollar Bill - I Was Real

Hypnotic, genre bending, psychedelic rock music incorporating elements of African music, Drone music. Ambient, Psychedelic Rock. The pace is fairly fast and upbeat and also repetitive in a really good way as they memorize you with twisting riffs and rhythms. The main instruments seem to be electric guitar and acoustic viola creating a very unique sound. Backed up by bass and drums and light keyboards.

    sound quality is excellent

Thanks for posting these last couple of bands. I picked up 3 albums from Caamp. To me they sound like a mix of Mumford and Ray LaMontagne and if you have not heard the latter, give him a listen. Say Sue Me is also in my wheelhouse as I’ve a huge fan of surf guitar!! I’ve seen The Ventures and Dick Dale live! More modern favorites are Aqua Velvets and The Mermen.

My favorite female vocalist metal band. Based out of Melbourne Australia. They really make it work. Lyrics are good, and her vocal delivery is awesome. She’s not screaming but she has a lot of unique inflection. And it doesn’t hurt anything that she’s gorgeous. Lots of great heavy riffs with really sweet rich electric guitar tone, goood bass lines, excellent drumming as well - all instrumentation is top notch. They’d sound good without any vocals at all, but she actually adds to their sound in a positive way and is convincing. There are a few other female vocalist metal bands I like but they don’t make it work so well.

i actually am not that into metal with tons of screaming. Personally. It just gets annoying to me.

    Sound quality is excellent.

A nice video on YouTube of them just playing the final song on the album:

I like it. Reminds me a lot of Black Mountain's early stuff; maybe just a little bit further towards the metal end of the rock-metal spectrum.

Ambient music with quiet, suspended electronic sounds in the background that come across as very organic. Occasional flourishes of piano. And leading the charge on top of that is beautiful, bold upright bass lines mixed much louder than anything else. You’re often just listening to upright bass with very quiet ambiance in the background. It’s really quite awesome.

Feel good laid back folk-alt country music with a unique bouncy swing to al their songs. Still an element of sadness to it, it’s not happy crap but generally has a pretty positive vibe. Excellent song writing, with short, clean, concise guitar solos that hit the mark perfectly. A few slower more somber songs keep the tempo and mood varied but it’s still really hard not to bob your head along to the swing they generate. Perfect music for a road trip. Has a way of transporting you off into a carefree world. The band is from Australia and this is their first LP.

Beautiful, minimalist traditional Irish music. Mostly just one violin playing slow, beautiful Irish melodies. With a second violin playing sustained notes in the background for atmospherics and what sounds like keyboard with some affects or electronic sounds but it is very organic sounding and in he background to fill in the sound. There is only one track with vocals but man is it good. I hope they come out with another album full of tracks like that. It’s absolutely stunning.

    sound quality is excellent.

Villagers of Ioannina City - Through Space And Time (Alive in Athens 2020)

This is a must hear for fans of rock, the 2004-2013 indie rock scene or classic rock.

They in many ways feel to me like the last classic rock band. They have that indescribable large, epic and monumental feeling.

They’re a Greek band, hugely popular in Greece. They’re sound combines classic rock and modem psychedelic rock with traditional Greek folk music. Ripping guitars, hard hitting drums with interesting rhythms, awesome vocals and heavy use of clarinet and bagpipe in the climax of songs used as the main soloing instrument. This doesn’t sound like it would work but it really does - when the clarinet or bagpipe comes in, the songs gain so much energy. They play them hard and with the genre, it’s not jazz or backup brass style playing. They’re sound is very unique but familiar at the same time. The way they combine rock with traditional Greek music works seamlessly.

The mood is similar to a lot of classic rock - not too moody but not happy either. Rather sort of inspiring and energetic.

Sound quality is fantastic for a live show (if this really was one considering the Pandemic). I’ve listened to their studio albums and this is much better. The energy and performance and sound is just better and honestly I think the SQ is better as well.

    precise info from Wikipedia:

“Villagers of Ioannina City (VIC) is a folk rock band from Ioannina, Greece, formed in 2007. They play post-, stoner and psychedelic rock with a large dose of Greek folk music from the region of Epirus. The regional musical tradition is characterized by polyphony, specific rhythms and tunes, and the use of clarinet, kaval, and bagpipe. The band fuses this unique folk music with modern psychedelic forms, creating a sound where the dominant solo instrument is the clarinet.”
