Seems like you're seeking drama, this isn't the place for that. I already responded to you, no matter how they respond (not responding is a response), people on the internet will be unhappy.

Please, enough with this subject, we don't need to hear about it.

I am vocally not the biggest fan of Drop and even I am amazed at how obtuse you are being.

Drop doesn't say anything because they're understaffed and the people I know who are left are not the best at audio. Sennheiser has other things to do than focus on rando internet impressions. Their machine is what it is and it hasn't really commented on decades of opinions on the internet in the past. I doubt they'd start because random people have opinions.

Why are you asking us? Drop has their own forums.

At the risk of throwing a broomstick in my own spokes here...

Assuming it's a problem -- and I am reserving judgement until I see results from a shipped production model -- running through the streets with the pitchforks and torches for either Drop or Sennheiser seems... perhaps just a teensy little bit over-invested?

It would not the first time a flagship product launch faceplanted (especially at Sennheiser).

I just ordered 3 more pairs to spite douche-nozzle youtubers. With the extra Drop-Bux included with each, I got a 4th pair almost for free.

Look like Drop rush shipping now. My order status of HD 8XX suddenly changed to:

    Reserved for shipment

I can’t wait to hear the recessed vocals on the HD8XX V2 and return it. I’m peeing my pants with excitement.

I wish I had the funds to just purchase a HD8XX and say 'f' all the nay-sayers. The HD800 driver is still one of the best dynamic drivers (headphone) available, and now it comes in flavors! YAY!

Go get an Anniversary Edition if you want the old tuning.

The cancelled orders drama and reaction to a bad news story sounds exactly like the kind of noise that causes volitality in publicly traded stock. You've got uncertainty and random drama oscillating people between two extremes. Ultimately, enough units will get in the field and it will regress toward the true value. If you're Sennheiser or Drop, silently riding out the storm is the smart move. If you react to every piece of news you will get burned, just like how people get rekt doing that trading stonks.

Cancelled my ass. 887 sold. You know how many companies would kill for sales like that on an > $1000 product? 300 more people can cancel, and the HD8XX would still be considered a success. Why dignify a response to DMS? He's not a customer and probably couldn't afford the HD8XX even if he wanted it.

DMS is like 14. How do these idiots get such a huge following? I don’t understand social media or the internet many times.

Don't worry. I am basically a old-f**k, and you got lost in time capsule for 7-8 years before the Internets went crazy.

64k followers isn't very much. It's actually nothing. My son made a only handful of Minecraft videos in a boring monotonic voice with only video captures. He got over a thousand subs. Only the top YT people make any money, and even then, most of it is from "merch".

If you continue to make content, then you will get subs. You gotta hand DMS some credit for tenacity and consistency. YT loves 30 minute videos, their algorithm gives them preference. This is why people blab for 30 minutes not really saying anything and never getting to the point. I would make YT videos too, but it doesn't pay much. Cybersecurity work pays pretty good these days.

The trick with YT is 30 minutes, a new video every week, and begging your viewers to hit the subscribe button. The young people in charge of marketing departments today grew up with social media. They think it's effective. I think the jury is still out. I think it's a matter of being smart, who you want to give your gear to for a review.

I mean, do you think someone like Jason at Schiit would give a Less-Is-More out to someone like DMS or someone with a random Internet blog? Of course not. But I bet he would be willing if Stereophile, Computer Audiophile, or SBAF asked. BTW, SBAF has considerable mindshare from the $500-$3000 range for personal audio - this is a big change from the Changstar days). Put it this way: I do not actively seek sponsors - well it's also because I've always had in my mind no more than 7, of which we already have 8.

I think comments and a clickbait thumbnail/title also help.

If you are going to get da YT Subs, please don't wear a head cam + move around often to the point that you make people feel motion sickness. Also don't show off your inner weeb with a wall of crap and blab about nothingness for 30 mins.

After a while I stop caring for some of the other YT impressions. I just don't feel like I'm learning anything.

If I am going to criticize Drop/Sennheiser here, it's they've ignored something Schiit has done religiously, which is keeping mum on products in development and then simultaneously announcing and shipping the final version. From what I gather Drop has run this launch like a rolling focus group with multiple tunings and so forth. The Drop group order business model invites it, but the point is this "debacle" of misinformation could not have occurred with a Schiit product because lots of people would have the shipped product in hand and could debunk false info.

This kind of community involvement in the development process is Drop's thing though. This headphone probably wouldn't even exist otherwise. There are downsides to it, sure, but it helps build hype as well. I imagine the way they handle production runs also makes it beneficial to have a more solid number for how many they're gonna sell, rather than going into production with just estimates and risk producing too many or too few.

And @purr1n is right. Given the price-tag of this headphone this is gonna be considered a successful drop for them even with cancellations.
