I've only ever heard of these guys through this forum, and apparently their stuff is terrific value. I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts about them. I'm also deeply fascinated by their $195 monitors.

I think it started in 2011 and was basically a one man show.. they have a thread on avsforum and audioholics. I like how their product line is small. the philharmonic 3 tower is pretty cool, the midwoofer is open backed.. on youtube there's a video that shows you how to open or close the back.. about 30 seconds in

Just set them up. I can already hear a big difference treblewise with female vocals.

How are you finding your Phil's after a month of listening? Did they live up to your expectations?

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a pair of Philharmonitors (possibly the BMR variant) and will be using them in a near field application/desktop application.

I have the proto BMRs and they're still lovely. They are my preferred system at home.

Edit: I would not recommend the BMRs for use in nearfield applications. Email Dennis and ask his opinion.

If you get the BMRs for near field do like that one guy did and get the front slot port on the bottom. And make sure you have space for giant speakers on your desk :p I'm still loving my New Phils, I switched back to my 195 watt amp and they sound better and more dynamic. Not sure why my 100 watt amp doesn't sound as dynamic since theoretically I'm only using a few watts since I use them near field. I only know the audiophile myths of bigger transformer and more current/capacitance = more dynamic

    What amps?

Could be a higher quality amp or it might be staying class A for more watts.

Yeah I had the feeling the BMR's probably wouldn't be the most suitable for nearfield. I'll email Dennis and see what his thoughts are on it anyway.

Should have plenty of space for the new Phils though.

I actually almost ordered a 34" 21:9 monitor from massdrop last night but there's not enough space for it in between my new phils :p if I had to do everything over again, I'd probably have gotten the BMR in salk cabinet with front slot port. YOLO

Yeah can't wait to get them in a couple months.

I asked for the same finish as shown on their website:
