at least there is pretty straightforward physics behind it :) - you do want your clock as stable as possible.

If I wanted to try this at home, does anyone know % of Standard Proctor (ASTM D968) we should be compacting the material to? (If preferred, I can work with Modified Proctor ASTM D1557)

Microvibrations are the ultimate resort of the nanoaudiofools. Components changing their values according to the stresses caused by these infinitesimal (I nearly said infantile) movements. It's easier to just walk away.

I am frankly appalled at the poor showing of science in this thread. Why are we resorting to abrasive friction and the complications of micro-particulates when time and time again visco-elastic and shear-layer damping has proven to have superior results? I would only consider sand when dealing with the cost constraints required of bulk mass loading.

I'd have to dig around a little but I'm pretty sure I've seen audiophile RAM modules for sale

No doubt. And no doubt they... aren't.

You can also find conversations about which hard disks, sd cards, and just about any other component, sound better.

We can find a whole load of crap about power and associated devices, but it is an area where, apart from the figments of imagination, real problems and solutions. Lets not dive too deep into the general world of audiophoolery; we all know it's out there!

hello, I have a general question on USB interfaces like Denafrips IRIS, Singxer SU-1, Gustard U12/U16: can they output on multiple interfaces simultaneously? like on coax and optical (S/PDIF) or coax and AES. I am wondering if it will be possible to connect the laptop to such an interface via USB, and the feed two DACs from it at the same time, preferably via S/PDIF.

I have a Stello U2 USB to spdif , 5 pin i2s, aes, its around 10 years old. When I run spdif with it to my Gungnir MB after about 5 minutes it gets realy distorted and garbled? WTF Anyone know whats going on.
    best,
    Josh

USB>S/PDIF needs an accurate clock to generate the synchronous S/PDIF signal. If the clock in the Stello has developed major thermal drift, something like that could happen. Electronic components do degrade, especially electrolytic caps but not only.

Schiit stopped making their really-good-for-the-price Eitr because of lack of demand, but if you can find one used, go for it (here's one for sale). Anything else comparably good is more expensive, such as the Singxer SU-2 that I've used back when. There are several lower-priced options here but I know nothing about any of them.

I used the Singxer mainly with a Holo Spring 1 and (less) with a pre-Unison Yggdrasil. I2S for the Spring 1 or S/PDIF for the Yggdrasil where better than their respective USB inputs. But things have changed. Unison narrowed the gap for Schiit DACs (arguable whether it removed it), and the later Spring DACs have much better USB receivers. That's why I sold the Singxer at some point. I mainly used the Eitr for the Yggdrasil (speaker system) and the Singxer for the Spring 1 (headphone system). I could hear no reliable difference between Eitr and Singxer when I swapped them upstream of the Yggdrasil. In your shoes, I'd just grab that used Eitr unless you want to have I2S available for future DAC swaps.

what's the community's opinion on something like this?

    ?

thing is, I have an XMOS U208 DDI from Audiophonics and would like to hook up a third DAC to it, and since the optical and coaxial outputs are already in use I am thinking about utilising the AES/EBU output. how an adaptor like this will reflect on sound quality?

I am also on the lookout for something like Parasound D/AC-1100 which has an AES/EBU input, but this is a topic for a different thread.

NADIT and Sescom impedance adapters have been discussed a lot in the Lynx AES-16e/E22 etc threads
