I have a Mercury with M.2 drive and I'm using Moode s/w. I can add files to it via Network. You can access it via File Explorer typing file://ip_address_of_your_Mercury (no username/password is needed).

Mercury 4gb SABF version . Power supply issues and it's not the software as i tried moode, volumio, picoreplayer. If you are experiencing clipping for no reason , it's the power supply(Had a generic 12v 3amp linear power supply i ordered.). Clipping occurs in all DSD files more cpu intensive running off NVME ssd on all ouputs i2s, usb, optical, less so with other formats. I have a power surge protector panamax 5100m to boot so it's not a power/noise issue as none my equipment ever had noise/ground issues. I think having a nvme SSD that draws more power / causes the clipping(verified it's not the file as i rewind and played that portion that clipped and it didn't, so find a ssd that has low power consumption.), also no issues at all if audio source is drawn from online/wifi/Ethernet. Anyways had a 9v ifi power around just to test this theory and it indeed showed up after 4 minutes non stop clipping after. Original 12v powersupply had a clipping maybe once in 30 minutes. Anyways i popped open the 12v 3amp linear power supply and found wires weren't sufficiently connected inside for best conductivity, that did fix 90% of it, occasionally a pop after. And no i won't use default 12v as it sounds so poor vs a linear power supply. I do recommend those Ifi 12v 4a powersupplies they rock/sound the same quality as the linear supply.

What is the brand and part number of the NVME board that you put in? I would like to know how much power it was consuming. 12V@3A should be plenty. I am also concerned that you experienced issue with our 40W (12V@ 3.25A) supply.

    It's a Samsung nvme PM9A1 512gb pcie gen4x4 off a oem HP laptop. Rated dc+3.3v 2.8A
The original 40w psw I'll redo a another test to verify as it occurs alot less like every 30 min (with dsd it's distinct clip noise, with pcm it's a quick clip I know it's noise but less distinct.

Update: NVME drive needs a heatsink , that thermal tape alone isn't going to cut it (Coincidently there is a Hole on motherboard next to ssd that you can zip tie a heatsink on top of thermal tape.). Anyways after that installed most of the clipping went away. Occasionally one clip sometimes 2 hours with default power supply and linear supply. Btw Michael Would the 4gb sbaf version tolerate a voltage boost say to 13 v ? I'm guessing here since voltage is partial causing the clipping i think. My linear power supply has a knob to adjust power level.

    Hi Mike

Is there a preferred NVME drive brand? Or are they much of a muchness?

    Update on Mercury V2 - 10/19/2022
Parts and PCB's are at the assembly house. Estimated ship date to us is 10/30. It will take a few weeks to work through all the back orders. But they should be in your hands in time for Thanksgiving!

The CM4 PCIe interface is GEN1, x1 so pretty much any nVME will work. No bleeding edge here!

I don't have a Mercury V1, so I can't comment on which NVME drives might work best.

Can anyone @Michael Kelly tell me the barrel dimensions for the Meanwell power supply that ships with the Pi2AES ? My NoiseNuke was made with the same dimensions and I want to get an adapter to try it with my Hangerman Tuba.

    thanks!

I believe Michael mentioned that the orders will be dispatched in chronological order (read 1st in, 1st served).
Mine was placed a month ago, but as I live in Australia it is going to take a couple of weeks to reach me anyway.

The Meanwells are mostly 5.5/2.1. If you pick up a few right angle 2.1 to 2.5s and 2.5 to 2.1s they're super useful for adapting the plug sizes and also for relieving some cable strain,

The first 100 units are due back to us by the end of next week. it will take us about one week to begin shipping and another week or so to finish out all the current orders. Anything ordered today would be included in that as we have a backlog of around 80 units right now.

We also have another batch of 100 units coming in the middle of December.

I was very happy with the music that was coming out of my combination Mercury running as a Roon Bridge feeding the Pegasus DAC. I guess $149 was burning a hole in my pocket. So, I ordered the Fiio PL50 linear power supply. Worst case, it’s maybe a better power supply and maybe my Mercury will live a longer life. I plugged it in and couldn’t believe the immediate sound improvement. I had been listening all morning, enjoying my day off. The stereo was sounding ever so sweet. I attributed that to the effect that we were having cooler weather and everyone wasn’t running their A/C. So, we had cleaner power maybe and I wasn’t running mine and filling the background with noise. My system does bring in some of the recording venue into my room. Not super high-end where the system puts you into the recording venue. Anyways, as soon as I replayed the last song that I was listening to, more of the venue came into my room and dynamics improved. I did not anticipate that level of improvement.

Just get a couple of cables like these:

    https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07VDJY15J

They have internal dimensions that'll fit both 2.1 & 2.5 mm jacks (note the internal springed pins). So whatever jack is on the output of the NoiseNuke or the input of the Tuba, they'll fit both.

BTW, We ship a 2.1 to 2.5 adapter with every mercury and PI2AES. Although we don’t do the same with the PI2AES–LITE because we don’t provide a power supply with it.
