Is it similar to the Berlin's Bahnhoff Zoo area or is that spot "cleaned up" now since the wild 1970s?

Yes, but it's better organized, less wild. After all, prostitution is legal in Germany unless it involves minors.

    Hello all,
Been away for a while and as my original intro post has gone the way of all things I thought it would be good to reintroduce myself.
I’ve been an audiophile for about 30 years. When listening via speakers, I’m more often than not listening to vinyl.
Headphone listening is nearly always streaming via Roon into my OG HD-580’s or Drop HD-6XX’s via Schiit or Drop tube amps.
I have also spent many a happy hour at work bouncing along to Meze 99’s through an old Oppo portable amp.
About to make a significant purchase so I’m back here to soak up the wisdom
    Cheers

Hi all. Long time lurker. Big InnerFidelity / Tyll Hertsens fan. I appreciate a lot all the infos and opinions you folks share on this board. Mostly active on various sell and buy boards. Like to always have something new to play with and compare with my stable setup. Cheers.

    hello from France!
long time lurker, I'm primarly a musician (I really like to listen and play rock, blues rock, hard rock, metal music...) rather than, say, a "pure audiophile" in a sense I'm not always in a quest for better high end gear, but I like to find modest gear that can sound good. (not a criticism against people who have and like high end gear by any means!)

I mainly listen to music while working on my computer via Focal monitors, and I'm back in vinyl world for a few months.
    Cheers!

Since I registered a little less than 5 years ago, I should probably introduce myself...

I'm an alto sax player and an audio guy. Almost became a musician, but studied
electrical engineering instead. Left the Bay Area too soon, so I still have to work.

I am a long-standing headphone guy. My first headphones as a teenager was the ATH-1.
I used them to listen to my Aja LP over and over. For portable listening out
    of my JVC walkman-style cassette player -- had to have Dolby B -- I used Porta-Pros. I
read every issue of every audio magazine I could get my hands on -- yes, even the
    more-ads-than-articles Stereo Review.

Later, after college, I bought more headphones. I found Tyll's Headphone.com store
on the internet and got the HD 580 and the HD-25 from him. I still use both today.

Got really into home theater in the 2000's during the DVD era. Turned my carport into a
mancave with my wife's blessing and outfitted it with B&W speakers and a crazy 18-inch
subwoofer. Spent too much time in there alone so I didn't redo the home theater when
    we moved.

In the early 2010's I got back into headphones and dove deep into EQ. Built a
MATLAB toolbox for myself to do what AutoEq does, and had fun designing PEQs to morph
the sound of one headphone to match that of another, with Rockbox as the playback mechanism.
Distortion more or less killed the idea, but I still use EQ to tame crazy-sounding
headphones for podcast-listening. The Qudelix dongle is really good for that.

I'm back on the hunt for a good portable over-the-ear closed headphone, as I am not
happy with the PM2 anymore after its revival with fake new earpads. I also want a
new DAC for the home office. So I'm trying to figure those things out.

But the real reason I am posting now is that I noticed purr1n's location. I love SPI.
Been there over a dozen times with good family friends. The biggest loss due to
COVID in Texas is clearly the closing of Manuel's. I had some Manuel's salsa from
the jar just tonight with leftover guacamole and chips. So good.

It would be very wrong to rush into anything. Maybe listen to some headphones. Maybe target 2043 as decision time?

Welcome :). Here's hoping you and your HD650s spend many more happy years together.

Hello everyone, I’m French Canadian, born and raised in Ottawa. My wife & I retired in 2012 & moved to Nova Scotia. I spend most of my personal time reading, perusing audio sites, listening to music and watching movies or sleuth series & follow my Montreal Canadiens. Although I joined seven years ago I’ve never been active on SBAF. The main reason being that I’m unable to learn/ comprehend sound measurements & believe me, I’ve tried. It was the same in school with math. It’s certainly not laziness. My brain is just not wired that way, so, I’m going to refrain from reviewing audio items since both objective and subjective information is required. My main audiophile passion is headphones. I’ve owned a slew of high end and moderately priced HPs over the years but am down to my two favourite ones since March of 2022 : HD600, which I’ve never been without since 2003 and same with my other one, HD650 since 2005. As I’m writing this, I’ve pre-ordered and am waiting for the HD660S2. My amps are the Bryston BHA-1 and Burson HA-160. I listen to CDs with my old, reliable and excellent Teac PD-H600 (13 years old) and I EQ my music, Schiit Lokius. I’ve always found this site interesting, informative & down to earth. So, I’ve taken the plunge and look forward to exchanging opinions with and reacting to posts from fellow SBAF. Thanks for having me. -Bob

Same here! And with maths. Like: how digital sound works is fascinating, and I'd love to understand it, but my head starts spinning at the first equation on a page, and everything goes downhill from then on.

You have been listening, long-term, with classic 'phones that are like benchmarks to many here. This is not hydrogenaud.io: you do not have to provide measured evidence of your impressions. But it is also not Head-Fi, so you could if you were so inclined (without getting banished to some ghetto of sound science). Oh, and, of course, it is also not ASR, so we are not interested in your GONADS, or whatever it is that Amir measures.

My prayers have been answered : “I am not alone ! “ Just like you, I get lost within ten secondes max. Thanks for the words of encouragement. No worries, my GONADS will remain private information wise, less I want to embarrass myself. After 33 + years of marriage, even my wife is not that interested any longer.

    Hello from Texas,

I've been putting my family first for almost twenty years now, and have had audio equipment that was stuck in the early 2000's as a result. Recently, I've spent some money for my wife and I and purchased some Tekton Pendragons with upgraded internal crossovers. I also purchased a Bluesound Node to finally stream music. Looking to upgrade my Outlaw audio receiver as well. It is a journey, but I'm happy to share my experiences here.

    Hi!

Been in the hobby for over a decade, lurked for a long time here, on Headfi, on Discord, etc. I currently tinker with headphone amp/speaker preamp building. Currently working on a UI/interface solution for my Exogal Comet Plus DAC. Happy to finally join and be able to put my voice out :)

Current speaker chain - Jamo S803/S801/S803C/Sub, Sony AVR, MSB Gold Link III Full-Nelson
    Current headphone chain - BP580/SS600 (2022)/17k s/n 800, EC BW2/DIY Sangaku, Exogal Comet Plus

Hope y'all have a great rest of your weeks :)

    Greetings.

I hail from GA/US and am an old electronics tech with experience in component level repair of microwave RF devices, including test equipment repair/troubleshooting/cal. Experience has involved microsoldering, test station setup, equipment specialist work, and some light engineering. It's been decades since I last worked for the DoD however, and even longer since taking years of theory, so I'm out of practice. I set up a test station at the house with a good mix of equipment, including analog & digital oscopes, sig gen, RF gen, other bench meters, and soldering station.

In addition to electronics, I'm a TIG welder [and others of course] (certified; worked as a fabricator freelance for mainly turbo car builds), and I now work full time as an IT technical architect (design, DBA, coding, Linux admin, data "science").

Most of my focus at home is honestly on existential stuff today. But I do have a bunch of Japanese "supercar" projects.
I'm an INTJ personality type, as I assume many others here must be. Along these lines, I tend to be very self reliant and amass all of what I feel is needed for end-to-end work on projects.

The efforts I've seen on here have been quite interesting and also helpful to me as I ease into this world of audio equipment. I never really gave it a good go before, but my goal now is to have a nice music setup for coding and unwinding. I've picked up a few headphones and a couple of amps to try to get a feel for what I like, and my next purchase will be miniDSP EARS so that I can see how impressions relate to test data [in that order]. Of course, I'll share what's found, but I don't intend to go crazy on time spent collecting and testing units, since this is ultimately downstream to my primary focus of coding for personal projects.

Looking forward to conversing with you all.

    Hello from Detroit!

New guy here, just ordered a Mercury V2 streamer, and know I will have more than a few questions. I have been reading a few posts, and really like what I am seeing here. This looks to be a very real place of knowledge in all things audio, I am surprised I have never stumbled in here before.

My system is a mix of gear, Oppo BDP-83 that I use as a transport using the GeerFab digital breakout box, Node (N130), Schiit Freya S, XTZ Edge A2-400 amp, Denafrips Hades pre and Thallo amps, Iris DDC, Ares II, KLH Model 5's and two SVS SB3000 subs. Looking to pick up a Venus II 12th here in a few days.

    Hello all!

I go by the name Ascii online due to my interest in ASCII cats and ASCII art. It gets a little confusing when the topic of the language comes up!

I design headphones for myself on fusion 360, usually of unique shapes and sizes and looking into making my very own one soon to bring to meetups! Though that'll take some time. Been more interested in DIY audio rather than buying it! I love to make my own stuff, so this is a great thing for me.

I also work for Nightjar Acoustics in IEM design as their creative lead, I only do the artsy stuff for them!

My current setup is my hd650 with a schiit x nitsch magni piety and zen dac. Its nothing impressive atm, but I plan to upgrade that over time. Does the job i'd say!
