"Hey Jim, I wanna find a headphone, which can match my uber speakers."
"Yeah, Nolan. Here's this. $100k. Same price and quality as your speakers."

What is up with headphone companies adding a metal headband. My 400i metal headband is kind of annoying because you think you are breaking the headphone.

Audeze is kidding themselves. At that price I would rather buy a really nice sounding pair of speakers and skip the headphones. Was it only 4 years ago when $995 seemed like an insane price to pay for headphones?

    Is Audeze trolling us?

Who trusts them enough to hand them 4k given their previous production and consistency issues?

So why doesn't RMAF happen in a location where, you know, people live, and stuff.

Something to measure is whether or not the elevation effects headphone measurements? Also the higher elevation we are in the more money things cost. You know because elevation and all.

ugh, I want to say don't rush to judge until you hear it. But considering that the Abyss, HE1K and LCD-3F can't match my HD-800 and HE-6, I feel no headphone (so far) is worth more than $1500. And I think HE-6 is really worth only $900-1000, maybe why it's being discontinued, and why open demos go for that price.

No. It's the throw up in your mouth, and write a check for 4K model.

I think I'm going to have to write Audeze off as a lost cause after hearing these prices. I'll take the money I saved by not buying this shit, and buy me some nice whiskey and plane tickets to SoCal to commiserate with the rest of you guys.

I know everyone is in sticker shock right now (myself included). I guess the question I have is ok we saw a $3k headphone (hifiman HE1K) and are now seeing a $4k headphone. Both of these headphones are ortho and both have very thin diaphrams that have a lot of sound variance from my understanding which is due to inconsistency. Where do orthodynamics go from here? What evolved in the ortho realm that made companies think they can charge so much? I mean $4k land is treading close to high end electrostatic territory.

Is Sennheiser the only company we can depend on to deliver good honest headphones at a fair price? The HD-800 has been out for what 6 years now. I have never heard a negative review on them (except being too neutral unmodded but that can be fixed) and with the mod-ability these headphones have almost have a second coming as we progress into ortholand.

I feel like I am in an episode of Underdog and the caption once again reads is this the end?

No it's on my to-do list. I haven't heard any Stax, but I know n3rdling is a big fan so they probably sound like slug poo.

Isn't this interesting? In 2009 when the HD800s came out at $1300 they were one of few headphones priced over $1000, now Sennheiser's flagship dynamic is considered a value.

The HD600s/650 at an even better value, although not flagships. I'm glad I don't have disposable income to even consider getting anything this ridiculous.

If the HD 800 is a symphony orchestra and the HD 6X0 series is a still kicking, bad ass metal band from the early 90s, Stax is Enya. Or Popol Vuh since Stax actually makes some good, ethereal stuff.
