I've seen this poll on a couple of other sites and it always makes me laugh. This might give some perspective to all the new people here getting into vinyl. How sick are you? I own 4 tables: Project Carbon, Music Hall MMF 7.1, Thorens TD320 MKII, and just bought a Rega RP3 because they are selling very cheaply to make way for the new Planar 3. It will be 5 when I save up for a VPI Signature or Prime.

Do not get the VPI Prime. Despite what VPI or the press says about about it, it sucks. You are better off with a Classic 1 or 2, especially the new ones with better power supplies.

Also, avoid the 3D arm. A VPI signature with the metal arm is end game.

One for now. I'm saving up for a higher end table at the moment. I plan on keeping a lower end table in my living room, which right now is a Technics SL-1800.

    None!
I am not planning to buy one also in near future. Why?

Imagine that you can only listen at your office with sound isolated headphones, would you buy one? I mean, would it be normal to use big turntable with lot of records, cleaning stuff in small office room shared with other guys? I guess not!

I have nothing against turntables, they sound great: music is natural, smooth and doesn't contain any digital harshness. But messing with records (cleaning, changing, buying, holding) is waste of time and money for me.

Digital setups are just so comfortable nowadays.

I have one turntable but I haven't used it in 10 years. I don't even play CDs anymore, except in the car and those aren't even real CDs, they're 320 mp3 CDs.

I have a picture of my cartridge though.....

I will keep this in mind. Prime removed…I like the looks of the classic line better anyway.

I own a VPI Super-Scout, w/ Nordost tone-arm wiring, JMW arm, and platter ring.
I also have my beloved VPI Traveler (and it was the very-First one ever to com off the line - for my review yrs ago). I loved Sheila - whom the table was made to honor... I actually use a Gingko Audio Cloud9T Isobase to give it suspension - and my Sonicweld DampClamp - w/ my Unison Research phonostage - I love its sound.
    I also have a Pioneer SL-15 - a work-in-progress!!

I own an HK t60 that is 30 years old, that I spent $500 on that same 30 years ago, and that has been in storage for most of the last 20. Decided to unmothball the thing probably 12 or so years ago when the revival of vinyl really started to see if maybe my recollection that vinyl was a pain in the ass had been shortsighted or colored by the impatience of youth, or something. Bought a new belt, a new stylus (Shure v15 something-or-other 4) and fired it up. Sure enough, I was right 20 years ago. Vinyl is a pain in the ass. When I gave up on it, it was definitely better in terms of sq than digital (cd at the time). Now? No way, at least not at the level at which I can afford each. For a poor fella like me, digital is orders of magnitude better in sq, and that difference is dwarfed by the difference in all other particulars. It will probably never come out of storage again, unless my son wants it, because, you know, "Dad, vinyl is cool."

    Just one.

    Pro-Ject RPM 9.2 Evo w/ Dynavector 10x5 into a Linn Akurate DSM/1.

Cartridge maybe has a couple of hundred hours life left and then I'll probably upgrade the whole thing. Not sure where I'm going next though. Ideally it'l be something pretty as well as being a big step forward in reproduction. AMG, SME, maybe another Linn (had a fully loaded LP12 when I was in the UK ... but the look is very staid) ... or something more eclectic.

    Suggestions?

Two. A Rega RP3, and the P1 that it replaced.

Or maybe three. The old Micro Seiki might be buried in the back of the storage space.

Add: Marv, for those of us who want a great but not a TOTL turntable, will the VPI Traveler suffice?

Save up for the Classic. The traveller and prime etc are decent, but the Classic is the one to get.

Classic 1 and 2 are similar. Classic 3 and 4 are similar and upgrades over the 1 and 2.

If u r in for the long haul, get a Classic 3 or 4.

When I decided to listen to vinyl again I bought a Pro-ject RPM1.3, now fitted with a Ortofon Blue... very good for someone who was coming back to the game, but I expect to upgrade soon to a better one. Maye a RPM 9 Carbon, since Pro-ject is a brand I have more access to. But one for me is enough... for now! ;)

What @shaizada said. Don't bother with Traveler, Prime, etc. Knowing what I know now, I'd still say get the Classic, especially if you are semi-starting out. VPI is ubiquitous so it's easy to get answers on setup, troubleshooting, etc. The Classic tables are the most material and labor intensive tables VPI sells. All other tables are sold to subsidize the production of the Classic tables and strangely enough, these other tables all use that cheap 3D printed arm. Don't let anyone talk you out of a Classic with a metal arm. SoundStageDirect usually has great deals on used or demo VPI Classic tables. Keep in mind the Classic tables move up a notch with the periphery ring which should be first upgrade considered (along with the center weight). The newer Classic cables have a partial implementation of the SDS, so a speed controller / power re-generator isn't as high a priority.
