You have an "actual degree" in psychology? Good for you. Me too! Mine is a doctorate. I also have authored journal articles and book chapter in outlets published by Oxford University Press and the like. Just saying.

You have a doctorate in psychology and bla bla bla and this is the best you got to blend in?
    Formal education is overrated sometimes.

Continuous inappropriate use of sarcasm deserves the plank.

@Hola, here's one from a social worker - go to the New Members thread and introduce yourself in keeping with the culture and traditions of this community. Ever publish on Axis II, Cluster B?

    Earned yourself a custom title.

Don't be patronizing or you'll earn yourself one, too.

@Hola, you are at the crossroads. Man up and be welcomed or back to HF banality or whatever.

    Doctorate, eh? OUP. eh?

That'll be $10 for that post. Oh. ok... GBP10 if you are in UK. And no, you can't pay more just because you can afford to: the valuation is final.

    Come gather 'round people
    Wherever you roam
    And admit that the waters
    Around you have grown
    And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
    If your time to you
    Is worth savin'
    Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

    Come writers and critics
    Who prophesize with your pen
    And keep your eyes wide
    The chance won't come again
    And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
    And there's no tellin' whoa
    That it's namin'
    For the loser now
    Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

I'm actually going to miss the random Rando (like GUTB) who stumbles in and offers up hours of entertainment, but it's probably for the best. I fully understand the work-load of running a site with an uncontrollable influx of unknown users. And I fully understand that you don't want to turn the site into the next HF, and we thank you for that too.

Duly noted. My intention wasn't to be overtly patronizing, moreso stating that 'I can see why you would think that will work but I don't think it will', but it clearly didn't come off that way. Either way, I'm the new guy here, everyone should always feel free to tell me when I need to shape up to the standards here.

And speaking of community standards, is it generally alright to respond to directed sass in kind? Or is it more viewed along the lines of just cluttering up a thread.

Looking for an editor for your future publications?

I think it'd be good to pull back to referral-based registration.

Let Friends generate single-use registration links or codes for others.

Growth will slow and you won't refer doinks else you'll lose the ability to refer.

I've been busy and haven't posted much lately, but I also keep avoiding discussions because there's too much stupid going around.

I appreciate the well-meaning advice, I really do. But honestly, I'll read two words and skip over the rest. Let's just say that decisions are not made quickly, the current situation is temporary, and I find that the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) approach works best in all facets of life.

I think the sign up process must have each person defend why the Ferengi deserve to be part of the Federation.

Also, a detailed explanation why the human dummies are allowed to be in charge of it over the much more rational Vulcans.

    Appropriate responses look like this:

Its wonderful to see all this ambition towards upholding the high standards this site as set for itself so far--even as it continues to expand.

If it takes 'closing the gates' in order to preserve that, it tells me the mods genuinely have SBAFs best interest at heart.

I fully agree with the direction Marvey etc. have decided to take and l personally look forward to what lies ahead in SBAFs future!
